Jeremiyah Love, Leonard Moore named to Walter Camp preseason All-America first-team

USA Today16 hours ago
The 2025 Walter Camp preseason FBS All-America teams were announced Tuesday, and two standout Notre Dame players made the first-team list.
Jeremiyah Love joined Penn State's Nicholas Singleton as a first-team running back, while cornerback Leonard Moore made the first-team defense. Both players also made Athlon Sports' preseason All-America teams.
Love ran for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, and he caught 28 passes for 237 yards and two receiving scores. Those numbers have set pretty high expectations for 2025. Meanwhile, Moore finished 2024 with 48 tackles, two interceptions, 11 passes defended and two forced fumbles.
Five schools (Alabama, Clemson, Indiana, Penn State and Texas) have three players on the preseason All-America teams, while defending national champion Ohio State joined Notre Dame with two first-team preseason All-Americans.
Announced in early December, the Walter Camp All-America teams are selected by FBS head coaches and sports information directors.
Notre Dame begins its quest for another berth into the College Football Playoff on August 31 at Miami.

Former Iowa football star tabbed Steelers' 2025 X-factor

Kaleb Johnson's 2024 season was one of the best by an Iowa running back in the Kirk Ferentz era. Johnson rushed for 1,537 yards, averaged 6.4 yards per carry and set single-season Iowa records for total points (138), total touchdowns (23) and rushing touchdowns (21). The Hamilton, Ohio, native was the main reason that Iowa's offense was even competent last season. Johnson's efforts saw him selected in the third-round of the 2025 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 6-foot-1, 224-pound back was the first Hawkeye running back to be drafted since Shonn Greene in the third-round of the 2009 NFL draft. The Steelers drafted Johnson to fill a hole left by former first-round pick Najee Harris, who departed for the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency. With so many storylines, free agency additions and trades, the addition of Johnson to the offense has received far less attention than it probably should. But not from Sports Illustrated writer Gilberto Manzano. In his "32 teams in 32 days" series, Manzano examined Pittsburgh's big moves and projections for the 2025 season. In the article, Manzano listed Johnson as the Steelers' breakout player candidate/X-factor. How the Steelers' offense takes shape in 2025 might hinge on Johnson's development. If the rookie third-round pick makes an immediate impact, that would allow the young offensive line to establish a rhythm early in games and take pressure off Rodgers, who struggled with mobility last season with the New York Jets. There's also the lack of depth at wide receiver behind Metcalf meaning the Steelers might depend heavily on Johnson emerging as a productive playmaker in his rookie year. - Manzano, Sports Illustrated It's unclear what exactly Johnson's role will be on the Steelers in 2025, as fan-favorite running back Jaylen Warren is still on the roster and figures to be the favorite to start. The Steelers should continue to run a two-back system like they did with Warren and Harris, which would get Johnson on the field early and often. Plus, when you add in Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers seem primed to have a run-first mentality, which favors fans who want to see Johnson get some run. Regardless of what exact role he has, the former Hawkeye star will get a chance to show what he can do in the NFL this season. Surprising Georgia Bulldog named as preseason first-team All-American

The Georgia Bulldogs had just one player make the 2025 preseason Walter Camp All-America team. Walter Camp, which is the nation's oldest college football has just a first- and second-team. Surprisingly, Georgia punter Brett Thorson made the first-team. Thorson's inclusion is not shocking because of his level of skill, but because he is recovering from knee surgery after he suffered a knee injury (to his non-kicking leg) in Georgia's 2024 SEC championship win over Texas. "He (Brett Thorson) won't be ready at fall camp, but we think he'll be ready by the first game," said Kirby Smart back in April. Smart has not confirmed the exact injury Thorson suffered, but it is suspected he tore his ACL. If Thorson returns for the start of the 2025 college football season, then he will have returned to action in less than 10 months. If Thorson is unable to play, then sophomore Drew Miller, who played in Georgia's Sugar Bowl loss to Notre Dame, is expected to start. AP named Thorson as a second-team All-American for his excellent 2024 season. Last year, Thorson averaged 47. 6 yards per punt and pinned opponents inside the 20 yard line on 22 different occasions. He had a career-high 18 punts go over 50 yards. Thorson is expected to be part of an elite Georgia special teams unit in 2025. The Bulldogs return starting kicker Peyton Woodring and long snapper Beau Gardner. Woodring made 21 of 23 kicks in 2024 including nine of his 11 attempts over 40 yards.

2026 5-star DL announces commitment time/location for July 10 announcement

Texas A&M's priority prospect list within the 2026 recruiting class is beginning to narrow down the final recruits who are set to make their announcements in the coming days/weeks, headlined by Friday's back-to-back reveals for five-star wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster, and four-star linebacker Tank King, who are both predicted to land with the Aggies. However, nothing is guaranteed, especially for what many consider the top athlete in the entire cycle, five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown, who will announce his choice on Thursday, July 10. Right now, it couldn't be any closer between Texas A&M and LSU, as AggieYell recruiting insider Landyn Rosow revealed that both programs are "50-50" before his announcement after taking his final official visit with the Tigers two weekends ago. Still, you can't blame coach Mike Elko and his staff if they come up short, knowing Aggie defensive line coaches Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie have done everything in their power to build a strong bond that could pay dividends heading into next week. It's important to note that Brown, who attends University Lab HS in Baton Rouge, has been in LSU's backyard his entire life, so if A&M beats out the Tigers, this would be considered one of the most significant recruiting wins in several offseasons. On Tuesday, Brown announced that he will choose his future playing destination in the early afternoon on Thursday, July 10, at 12:15 CT in front of his family and peers at the University Lab gymnasium. According to On3, Brown is currently positioned as the 7th-ranked 2026 prospect and the No. 1-ranked athlete and prospect out of Louisiana.
