The vibrant colours of Mamelodi Sundowns' kit evoke strong connections to South America's most celebrated footballing nation Brazil, a five-time Fifa World Cup winner.
Now, as the South Africans stride onto the global stage at the Club World Cup, this correlation is stronger than ever.
Nicknamed the Brazilians, Sundowns are captivated by the shared ethos of flair and passion, and Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac drew parallels between their style of play and that of the Brazilian national team.
Kovac came to that conclusion while doing his homework on Sundowns ahead of today's Group F clash.
He said: 'They are more to the side of the Brazilian team', underscoring the challenge that awaits Dortmund and the intrigue surrounding Sundowns in this tournament.

Flyer Sebastiaan Jobb had an almost immediate impact off the bench in the second stanza, his converted try after 11 minutes stretching SA's lead to 12-0. It was no more than their endeavour deserved, even if they were guilty of schoolboy handling errors at times. Masande Mtshali had the final say for the Springbok Sevens 'A' side. He dotted down in the right-hand corner after some good inter-passing as the favourites seemed to have finally woken from their slumber. There would be no further additions to the scoreline but Philip Snyman's charges will have been left with plenty to ponder going into the second match of the tournament. The South Africans started the second pool match against Zambia far better than the first, a foot in touch denying Grant de Jager the early score. But a few minutes later, they made the most of turnover ball on the Zambian tryline for Joubert Schoeman to score. The Zambians levelled the score at 7-7. But their joy was short-lived, after Schoeman rose high and collected the ball off the kick-off to canter over the whitewash. The game seemed headed for a thrilling second half after Zambia fought back to draw level again before half-time (14-14). However, the class of the South Africans finally told. Mfundo Ndhlovu showed great strength, shrugging off tackles and powering over the line as the Springbok Sevens 'A' side eventually ran out 33-14 winners. South African 1 500m record falls
South Africa's Tshepo Tshite delivered a stunning performance at the Diamond League meeting in Paris on Friday night, breaking the long-standing national 1 500m record in a blistering race that featured some of the world's fastest middle-distance athletes. Tshite, 28, crossed the line in 3:31.35, shaving more than half a second off the previous South African record of 3:31.93 set by Johan Cronje in 2013. It was Tshite's first national outdoor record, adding to his existing South African indoors records in both the 1 500m (3:35.06) and the mile (3:54.10). Fastest in recent history While Tshepo Tshite finished ninth in a stacked field, the race was one of the fastest in recent history. France's Azeddine Habz took the win in 3:27.49, setting the fastest time in the world this year and dragging five other runners under the 3:30 barrier. Athletics South Africa (ASA) president James Moloi praised Tshite's achievement while also calling for broader performance improvement across the national team ahead of major competitions, including the upcoming World Championships in Japan this September. 'As we congratulate Tshite for achieving his feat of breaking a record, we also take the opportunity to encourage all athletes to drastically improve their performances in order to reach podium positions,' said Moloi. 'We don't take anything away from him – for a national record is always an achievement to be celebrated. 'It becomes a new benchmark for others. 'We therefore congratulate Tshite, his coach, and all of his support staff.' Meanwhile, in the men's 5 000m event, fellow South African Adriaan Wildschutt finished 14th in 13:28.67, well behind Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha, who stormed to victory in a world-class 12:47.84. Despite the result, Fluminense created more chances and looked the more dangerous side over the full 90 minutes than the German outfit. They now face an Ulsan team still recovering from a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in their first game. With both sides needing points, this fixture becomes crucial, as a win would ease the pressure going into the final group match with a possible last 16 place at stake. Juventus vs Wydad AC Juventus cruised to an emphatic 5-0 victory over UAE Pro League outfit Al Ain in their opening fixture and remain strong contenders to progress to the last 16 as they prepare to face a tough challenge from Wydad Athletic Club on Sunday. After enduring a rather modest Serie A campaign, which saw them just clinch a top-four finish and qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League, this tournament provides a real opportunity for silverware, and their squad depth gives them a genuine shot at going all the way. Their clash with Wydad is expected to be a far sterner test than the opening match. Despite the Moroccan club's 2-0 loss to Manchester City, their performance was more competitive than the scoreline suggests. They are expected to grow stronger as the competition progresses and their confidence builds. South African duo Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula have been instrumental for the North African side in recent months and could play a pivotal role again on Sunday. Real Madrid vs CF Pachuca Real Madrid head into this encounter following a high-tempo 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal, a result that left them slightly frustrated given their expectations as one of the tournament favorites. They'll now aim to collect their first win of the competition. Under the leadership of former midfielder Xabi Alonso, Los Blancos boast a talented mix of youthful energy and seasoned experience, making them well-equipped to hand Mexican outfit Pachuca a second defeat in this year's global showpiece.
