‘This isn't a young team, this is a gun team': Karun Nair reveals Gautam Gambhir's first message to India ahead of England series
'Right at the very beginning, Gauti bhai said, he doesn't want us to look at it as a team in transition. He didn't want us to feel that way. The first message we got was 'this isn't a young team, this is a gun team and everyone must feel it from within,' the Karnataka batter added.
Nair, who made 205 runs from four Tests at an average of 25 with one fifty, also reflected on his comeback, saying he was disappointed on not convert his half century at the Oval to a bigger score.
'I was disappointed at not being able to convert the start at The Oval (where he made a 57) into a century. But it was quite important to grind my way on that first day with the team in a tricky position. The nerves were there, but I was feeling good. I was hoping to convert, which I couldn't,' Nair said.
'I did reflect a lot. But it's also important to let go of what has happened and look forward to what I need to do in the next few months. It's about keeping my focus levels up and making sure I go on and make big scores, irrespective of the level I'm playing at,' he added.

Former India batter Yuvraj Singh feels Shubman Gill's performance on the recent England tour was nothing short of unbelievable, especially considering the question marks over his batting in overseas conditions heading into the five Test series. Despite being hit by injuries to wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh, and their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah playing only three games to manage his workload, India's determination was on show as they pulled off a thrilling six-run win in the fifth Test at Oval to level the series. Yuvraj, who has mentored Gill, added that the Indian team took on the challenge head on even without the likes of Kohli and Rohit. "It's just fantastic because I felt when you have a young team going to England, it's a lot of pressure. You're filling the boots of somebody like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, it's not easy. The guys took it head-on." He also praised the efforts of all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, whose marathon partnership helped India draw the fourth Test in Manchester. "The moment in the tournament was when India drew the Test series. I've never seen, in a very long time, Washington and Jadeja got hundreds and drew a Test match," he said. "That speaks volumes. Obviously Jadeja has been there for a long time. But I think Washington Sundar, as a youngster coming into the team, it was incredible to do what he did," added Yuvraj.

If the selectors know what he can offer & are okay with it, it's because they know he can still make a big impact in those 3 games. Bumrah played in the first, third and fourth Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and picked up a total of 14 wickets in five innings. He bowled a total of 119.4 overs in the away series and picked up two five-wicket hauls. However, in both the matches where Bumrah dismissed five batters in an innings, India suffered a defeat. Bumrah, who has 219 wickets to his name in 48 Test matches, is expected to be part of India's Asia Cup squad. The 2025 edition of the men's Asia Cup will be in T20I format from September 9 to 28 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. India will open their campaign on September 10 in Dubai against the UAE and take on Pakistan in their second Group A match on September 14 at the same venue.
