Test-Driving The 2025 Nissan Qashqai
Nissan UK
Nissan launched the Qashqai into the U.K. market in 2006 and over time it won numerous awards such as 'Best Small SUV' and 'Used Car of the Year'. The Qashqai's looks remained subtle until Nissan produced the third generation, which led to the newest facelift reviewed here.
The biggest change is the Qashqai's front end, which was inspired by Japanese armour. It's handsome. Re-profiled bumpers and LED headlights emit aggression and there are new alloy designs now up to 20 inches.
Gone are lifeless interiors. Nissan's given the Qashqai more fizz by wrapping the dashboard in Alcantara. Likewise, there's now a 360-degree camera, a Google Nissan Connected System, and a funky 'transparent bonnet' feature where cameras give a projected line of sight to the front wheels to assist while navigating challenging terrain.
My loaner was the range-topping Tekna + e-Power, which feeds 188 bhp to the front feels via a CVT gearbox. As you'll probably guess, the Qashqai isn't the most exhilarating thing to fire down a twisty road. That said, it doesn't lean much and out-of-corner acceleration is acceptable. If bend-ironing is important, the Ford Kuga and Mazda CX-5 excel here.

There's plenty of mid-range acceleration and the initial response is perky when sinking the gas pedal. But the petrol engine works overtime to keep the electric motor's battery topped up, and emits quite a racket under acceleration.
It's a great motorway cruiser thanks to intelligent cruise control, a standard feature, while ProPilot automatically keeps the car centred in its lane and slows it for corners and roundabouts ahead. It's worth noting this feature is only available on Tekna grade upwards. Over a 100-mile trip, the Qashqai returned 44.9mpg.
The Nissan Qashqai remains a perfectly capable family wagon. Generous interior space allows tall adults to stretch out in the rear while a large boot, which varies depending on trim level, swallows luggage and prams with ease.
Similarly, the 188 bhp engine packs enough punch and offers great economy although it's worth noting this engine isn't available with four-wheel drive.
Unlike the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, the Qashqai isn't offered with plug-in hybrid power, but the e-Power is essentially a stepping stone from mild-hybrid to full EV. Think of it as a range-extending hybrid.

These 2025 Subaru and Kia models have the comfiest seats, according to J.D. Power study. How do they compare?
Two midsize SUVs have the comfiest seats on the market, says new study. How important is interior comfort when it comes to car buying? The average new vehicle can easily last for over 13 years of ownership when well-maintained, so comfy seats are important to many drivers interested in long-term ownership. J.D. Power conducted a study to examine the seat quality of 2025 vehicles using several metrics including comfort. The results are surprising and add major points to two nameplates. These cars have the comfiest seats, says J.D. Power J.D. Power is an American data analytics and consumer intelligence company specializing in car reviews, ratings, and awards. It conducted a study to determine which cars, trucks, and SUVs have the highest-quality seats. The study was based on responses from 92,694 car buyers and leasees of 2025 vehicles. The drivers who participated in the study were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The number of problems and level of satisfaction were factors in determining which vehicles have the best seat quality. Two SUVs models earned the highest J.D. Power scores out of 10 points. The Kia Sorento and Subaru Outback not only scored above the Chevy Traverse (7.3/10) and Kia Telluride (7.5/10) in the mass market/SUV segment, they also earned the highest scores across all segments. Both models scored a 9.3/10 from J.D. Power, based on data from the study. The cabin comfort of both models aren't usually emphasized compared to other prominent features, so the results of the study is great news for both nameplates. The 2025 Kia Sorento is a value-packed family SUV South Korean automaker Kia is a mass-market brand that produces several impactful nameplates known for strong value propositions. The Sorento is a midsize three-row SUV that's great for large families on a budget because it's affordable and can seat six to seven passengers. The 2025 Kia Sorento starts at just $31,990, which is cheap for its segment. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to produce 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The Sorento achieves 23 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. Kelley Blue Book calls the 2025 Sorento a "budget-friendly" SUV with modern tech. Its superior seat quality, according to the study, makes the three-row SUV an even sweeter deal. The 2025 Subaru Outback is an adventure-ready SUV Subaru's SUV models like the Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback are known for their rugged exteriors and off-roading potential. Subaru offers several Wilderness trim models that are the most capable versions of the adventure-ready SUVs. The Outback midsize SUV has extremely comfy seats based on the J.D. Power study, despite its tough and durable design language. The 2025 Subaru Outback starts at $29,995. It's a five-seater midsize SUV that's designed to be safe on roads and off the beaten path. Subaru's midsize SUV uses a 2.5-liter four cylinder engine to make 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. It achieves 26 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. The Outback has a "spacious cabin and smooth, comfortable ride" according to a vehicle review by Edmunds. Now, the Outback can count quality seats amongst its strengths, according to J.D. Power. 2025 Kia Sorento vs. 2025 Subaru Outback The 2025 Kia Sorento and 2025 Subaru Outback got identical seat quality scores from J.D. Power, so which is the better midsize SUV? When it comes to these two models, the short answer is: preference. The Sorento has more seating capacity, which is a huge factor for car buyers who need to seat more than four passengers. Subaru's model is geared towards drivers looking for an SUV with heightened off-roading capabilities, while the Sorento is a more typical budget-oriented family SUV. The Sorento is slightly more powerful and Subaru's Outback is slightly more efficient.

2026 Nissan Frontier Gets Jazzed Up With New Roush Parts
The 2026 Nissan Frontier pickup is adding off-road capability through a new partnership with Roush Performance. The mid-size pickup adds a new PRO-4X R trim, highlighted by a 2.0-inch lift kit and Öhlins off-road suspension setup. Unlike typical dealer-installed options, you can't actually buy the PRO-4X R parts from Nissan—you'll have to go directly to Roush for that. Nissan is exploring third-party options to create a more specialized off-roading approach for its 2026 Frontier mid-size pickup. To that end, Nissan teamed up with Roush Performance to build on the Frontier's somewhat basic approach. The result of the collaboration is a Roush edition of the Frontier's PRO-4X trim, cleverly named the PRO-4X R. Nissan Performance upgrades for the PRO-4X R are centered around an Öhlins 2.0-inch suspension lift and shocks. Roush worked with Öhlins to tune the setup specifically for the Frontier. They've got aluminum construction and use external gas reservoirs along with a set of rear cooling fins to keep them from overheating in harsh driving conditions. Nissan Nissan In terms of visual changes, the Roush Frontier has titanium-painted front grille inserts, a titanium-painted skid plate and front lower fascia, and Roush "R" badging on the grille, fenders, and tailgate. The 17-inch wheels also get a titanium finish and feature black lug nuts along with "R" badges for the center caps. Inside, the Roush logo is embroidered into the front-seat headrests. Unlike your typical dealer-installed options, the Frontier's PRO-4X parts are sold exclusively by Roush. The kit tacks an additional $4395 onto the price of the PRO-4X trim, bringing the total cost for the Roush Frontier to $47,960. The 2026 Frontier is slated to begin arriving at dealerships later this summer, with Roush editions coming some time after that. Nissan's Infiniti attempts 'product renaissance' to jump-start sales and blunt tariffs
CARMEL, Calif. — Among the sea of European and other foreign-made cars (some costing millions of dollars), Nissan's (NSANY) Infiniti brand decided Monterey Car Week was the time to unveil its latest creation, the QX65 midsize crossover SUV. It's part of a product renaissance at the Japanese automaker, which has been plagued in recent times by older models that haven't riled up premium and luxury buyers, who have no dearth of options. Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Great Rates and Award-Winning Service The Insurance Savings You Expect Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You Infiniti's US head, Tiago Castro, said the QX65's upcoming launch is buoyed by the relative sales success of two of its newest products, the QX80 and QX60 SUVs. 'So we're in the middle of a product renaissance that really started with the QX80 last year,' Castro said from this year's Quail event. 'This vehicle has been building momentum. We actually had this year the best seven months ever in sales for the QX80, so really good moment [for the brand].' Castro said the QX60, which was updated last year, is seeing sales climb year over year. The company is hoping the same for the new QX65. 'The goal now, as we accelerate the future, is to launch one vehicle per year for the foreseeable future.' While that's good news, both Infiniti and Nissan have faced a rough patch recently, and both are only now trying to emerge from slow sales and heavy debt — at least for parent Nissan. But Castro believes Infiniti at least has a game plan. 'Nobody can say that we didn't have a tough year last year,' he said. 'Very clear. But here's the important part. We have a very clear understanding of what needs to happen. There's full alignment in the global team and the regional leadership team that in order for Nissan to be stronger, Infiniti needs to be strong. So we're going to invest in the right product and the right moment.' Castro said the first step was to understand the product portfolio and how to optimize delivery because there have been other headaches for Infiniti: tariffs. While Japan has a preliminary deal in place for 15% tariffs, cars imported from Canada and Mexico still have a 25% auto sector tariff tacked on. 'So, for example, QX50, we had to pause the production into the US, but in Canada, there's a lot of opportunities, so we shipped more vehicles there. We also increased production of QX60 that is built here in the US,' Castro said. QX65 will also be built in the US, which Castro said was 'very important' to increase its US footprint. Signing a tariff deal with Japan is immensely helpful, as the QX80 SUV that's in demand is built in Japan. 'The customers are reacting very well, and we need to deliver the vehicle' and not stop, he said. Read more: What Trump's tariffs mean for the economy and your wallet One of the main selling points for Infiniti, though it's a premium luxury brand, is that it undercuts the pricing of German brands and rivals like Toyota's (TM) Lexus and Honda's (HMC) Acura. While debuting at the Quail event raised eyebrows amongst a Monterey crowd that's known more for glitz rather than frugality, Castro believes Infiniti can compete on product too. 'It's important for us to demonstrate what we can do to this luxury consumer. A lot of customers here, they love what they're seeing,' Castro said, singling out a 'terrain spec' QX80 concept. Castro added, 'But as far as the consumers are concerned, we see the market still moving in the right direction. Leading indicators — everything from website traffic to visits to dealers — are increasing. So positive year ahead of us.' Pras Subramanian is the lead auto reporter for Yahoo Finance.
