Woman heartbroken after mum ruins pregnancy announcement

News.com.au2 days ago

A mum-to-be was left heartbroken after her own mother ruined her pregnancy announcement, with the awkward video of the incident going viral and racking up over 16 million views.
Like many expectant parents, Olena Perez wanted to record the moment she shared her exciting news with her family – that she was expecting her first child.
She enlisted a stranger to help pull off the surprise, asking them to pretend to take a family photo.
Instead, the stranger was actually filming, meaning the big reveal would be captured on video.
Ms Perez began arranging her family in a line for the photo, but just before they were about to say 'cheese', she said she needed to grab her lipstick from her bag.
She then pulled out a pregnancy test from her handbag instead, to show her mum.
With an excited look on her face, she waited for her mum's reaction but was instead met with confusion.
Her mum tapped her on the hand, telling her to put the pregnancy test away, and tried to smile at the camera as if nothing had happened.
Ms Perez quickly explained to her mum that she was pregnant, and her mum responded, 'Really?' but appeared otherwise uninterested, pointing towards the camera as if to say, 'Can we just get this photo?'
The mum-to-be then looked around at the others in the family line-up and tried to get their attention, exclaiming, 'I'm pregnant!' but the reactions fell just as flat.
Not getting the response she had hoped for, Ms Perez gave up and went to retrieve her phone from the person recording, saying 'Oh my god,' and rolling her eyes at the failed reveal.
She captioned the clip, 'My mum loves a good pic!'
In the comments, many sympathised with her, saying, 'Girl you deserved so much more out of them'.
Someone else pointed out, 'Narcissistic mothers ruin everything'.
And a third commented: 'The nice thing is you can just show this to the therapist instead of trying to explain'.
'Does she know she's your mum?' another joked.
'I'm glad you're starting your own family … because I don't know what this is…,' another remarked.
Others were confused by the awkward family dynamic, with someone asking, 'No offence, but what kind of family is this?'
'How did not one of them hug her?' said one user.
A comment with 300,000 likes read: 'I've never seen so many people not care about a pregnancy announcement at the same time.'
However, a few others tried to cut the mum and family some slack.
'No offence but just take the damn picture and then make it about you, she probably really wanted a family photo, or simply because she's a mum and no longer has you all living under the same roof,' suggested one commenter.
Meanwhile, others took issue with the concept of pregnancy announcements in general.
'Is everyone just supposed to be overjoyed she can procreate?' one user asked.
Pregnancy announcements have become a major trend on social media, with many parents going to great lengths to create memorable, and viral, reveals, sometimes with less than ideal outcomes.
Influencer and ex-reality TV star, Ella May Ding, was forced to respond to backlash last month after her sponsored pregnancy announcement on Instagram didn't get the response she had hoped for.
In May, the star took to Instagram to announce she was expecting her first child with husband Guy Palermo, but the post was actually an ad for pregnancy test brand, Clear Blue.
Some fans said that the move felt 'off' because she was trying to cash in on a pregnancy announcement.
But Ding argued that anyone would do the same thing in her position.
'It was a no-brainer. When the opportunity came to me, I was like, 'Well, Clearblue literally told me I'm pregnant'. Like, I don't really know how much more you can align with a brand,' Ding told Yahoo Lifestyle.

‘Fake': Explosive Diddy defence claim as criminal trial wraps up

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' defence team began closing arguments on Friday as the seventh week of the rapper's sex trafficking and racketeering trial comes to a close. Marc Agnifilo, Diddy's lawyer, accused the prosecution of bringing a 'fake trial' against the Last Night rapper as the government went after his 'private sex life.' Diddy's defence claimed none of the prosecution witnesses testified to engaging in racketeering. Agnifilo pointed out the disgraced music mogul's former employees all described working for him as hard, but also said it was like 'going to Harvard Business School.' 'That's the fake trial I'm talking about,' Agnifilo told the jurors, claiming the prosecution failed to prove the government's theory of racketeering. Agnifilo then brought up the raids on Diddy's homes, pointing out the seizure of Astroglide and baby oil. There was nothing about the rapper's businesses to make this a criminal case, the defence lawyer stated. 'Where is the crime scene? The crime scene is your private sex life,' Agnifilo said. According to Diddy's defence, this case was about money. He noted the investigation into Diddy came about after his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, sued the rapper for US$30 million (A$46 million). Agnifilo claimed Cassie wouldn't have sued if Diddy didn't have millions. 'We're here because of money,' he stated to the jury. Agnifilo claimed what happened between Diddy and Cassie was domestic violence, not sex trafficking. 'Owning the domestic violence, we own it,' he said in court. 'That's not charged.' According to the defence lawyer, Diddy did not do the things he's charged with. The rapper didn't commit racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, Agnifilo argued. He also claimed the disgraced music mogul didn't obstruct justice or commit bribery. Ahead of closing arguments, Diddy walked into the courtroom wearing a beige sweater. He gave a small wave, did a thumbs ups and made a heart motion with his hands. The rapper then hugged Agnifilo, before sitting down. There was a short delay in the start of court due to a transportation issue with one juror. While waiting for the jury, Diddy made a prayer gesture with his hands. A few of his lawyers made the gesture back to him. For their closing arguments, Diddy's defence team allegedly planned to invoke the Iran conflict during closing arguments, according to TMZ. The government seemingly objected to this strategy after court Tuesday. 'Given that the attorneys who will be giving summations won't be here tomorrow, I wanted to put something on the record that I hope will not be necessary, but my hope is that we don't have to object during defence summation,' Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey said. 'I really don't want to do that. So I just wanted to put on the record that we think it would be objectionable and crossing a line for any summation to bring up politics or current events or the propriety of this prosecution and the use of government resources. I would hope that Mr. Agnifilo would not cross over those lines, but I just wanted to say that if he did, I would object in the middle of his summation and ask the Court to instruct the jury to disregard any comments like that. So I just wanted to state that in advance of summations and the hope that it's not necessary.' The prosecution noted this issue had been brought up in one of the government's motions in limine. 'I believe at that time there was an agreement by the defence not to engage in any of that type of argument,' Judge Arun Subramanian said. 'But, Mr. Agnifilo, anything to worry about here?' 'Nothing to worry about, Judge,' Agnifilo responded. Prosecutors gave closing arguments Thursday. The government explained how the trial testimony proved each charge against Diddy – two counts of sex trafficking, racketeering and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution – over the course of roughly four hours. The government emphasised in their argument that Diddy ran the alleged criminal enterprise with full control. The prosecution pointed out that the jury heard testimony, saw texts, viewed bank records and heard audio showing the Last Night rapper committing crime after crime for decades. According to the prosecution, the government showed Diddy didn't take no for an answer. Up until today, Diddy was able to get away with crime because of money and power, Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Slavik said. 'That stops now.'

Bill Hader exposes ‘terrible' celeb encounter

Bill Hader has the tea on Martin Kove. Over 10 years before Martin kove, 78, bit his co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim at a fan convention this past weekend, Hader, 47, spoke about a bizarre encounter he had with the Cobra Kai actor on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast. During the 2013 episode, Hader recalled that at age 20 his job was to drive actors to sets. One day, Hader was tasked with bringing Kove to a film shoot, reports the New York Post. 'I'm driving him around in my s***ty car, and he got me lost on purpose,' Hader claimed, adding that Kove 'hadn't read the script yet,' so he gave the Barry star the wrong directions. Hader said that after they arrived late, he got 'screamed at' by his boss. 'It was a terrible day,' Hader said of the moment, which only got worse. 'On the way back, we're driving,' Hader recalled. 'It's at night, and we're driving down the freeway. He was like, 'Bill, are you mad at me?'' The Karate Kid actor then allegedly forced Hader to stop at a McDonald's and promised to get him a cookie and a milkshake. 'He comes back out eating the chocolate cookie and the milkshake,' the Saturday Night Live alum remembered. 'And he just sits in the back and goes, 'Come on, let's go.' It was the biggest f**k you.' 'It was a weird mind f**k of, like, 'I'm gonna get you this thing,' and then he ate it in front of me,' Hader added. 'And then I just drove home in silence.' Hader, who referred to the interaction as his 'first 'welcome to Hollywood, kid' moment,' noted that he had to keep driving Kove to work for a few more days. 'And I didn't talk to him after that,' Hader said. 'I just kind of stared straight ahead.' Despite Kove's rudeness, Hader said he gave the martial artist a pass. 'I heard he was going through a divorce, or something was happening with him,' Hader noted. 'He might be a really nice guy, but I just … rubbed him the wrong way. I don't know what was going on.' The Post has reached out to Kove's rep for comment. On Sunday, Kove was accused of biting Hannah-Kim, 37, in the arm at Washington State Summer Con. The actress, who played Kim Da-Eun for seasons 5 and 6 of Cobra Kai, claimed the alleged attack happened when she tapped Kove on the shoulder to greet him at their cast booth, according to a police report obtained by People. When he was questioned about the incident by police, Kove reportedly 'admitted to biting' Hannah-Kim but claimed 'he did it out of jest.' 'He thought he was being funny, and they play fight all the time on the set of Cobra Kai, and he did not think it was a big deal,' the report stated. Hannah-Kim declined to press charges against Kove, who was reportedly escorted out of the fan convention. Kove gave a full apology for the incident in a statement obtained by TMZ. 'I deeply regret and apologise for my actions regarding the incident with Alicia, a genuinely kind and wonderful person who didn't deserve to be put in this position,' he stated.

TV star accidentally flashed Jude Law in backstage mishap

Alyssa Farah Griffin confessed she once accidentally flashed two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law backstage during a discussion on The View about 'embarrassing personal malfunctions.' 'This isn't quite the same, but I accidentally flashed my underwear to Jude Law backstage once,' she recalled as the show's hosts chatted about LeAnn Rimes' teeth falling out during a recent performance. 'My mic pack fell down my dress so at commercial I run back [stage]' for help from an audio tech, she divulged during Thursday's episode of the ABC talk show. 'I flashed up my skirt so she could help me move it, and Jude Law's just standing there,' she continued. 'And then in my embarrassment — he just says nothing — I go, 'I'm sorry, sir!' Like, I made it worse by calling him sir! And then I maybe curtsied! It was brutal.' Griffin's co-hosts Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines and Ana Navarro giggled hysterically and gasped over the jaw-dropping confession. It's unclear exactly when the mishap took place, though Law did make an appearance on the popular ABC talk show back in November. Meanwhile, Haines shared footage of a cringe-worthy on-camera moment during a 2013 appearance on Good Morning America. In the clip, Haines attempted a faux-faint into the arms of a man dressed as Spider-Man — but instead brushed past his arm and fell to the floor. 'I had a moment once on-air,' Haines recalled, adding that there had been 'rehearsals' before the shocking blunder. 'I was with Spider-Man, and [producers] said, 'Oh, you should do something damsel in distress-y,' she continued. 'And so we rehearse, rehearse, rehearse,' Haines continued. 'We went live, and it just didn't go as planned.' She added that tragically — even after three successful attempts — 'It was only the time cameras were watching that he missed me.' Despite the dramatic blunders, Behar pointed out earlier in the episode that such moments aren't unheard of. 'How many of you have ever experienced an embarrassing personal malfunction?' Behar asked the audience, encouraging them to 'clap' if they had. 'The whole audience?' she marvelled. 'Wow, it must be very common.'
