Cloudburst in Kullu as monsoon fury continues in Himachal; 357 roads blocked

A cloudburst was reported in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Friday evening. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kullu has said that the situation following the cloudburst is normal, and there has been no loss of life or casualties so far. Himachal Pradesh has been reeling under monsoon fury, that has led to several roads being blocked.(PTI)
However, the water level in Barogi Nala, adjoining Sharod Nala, has risen due to rain, reported news agency ANI, quoting authorities.
The cloudburst comes as several parts of Himachal Pradesh grapple with heavy rain, and flash floods triggered by it. According to news agency PTI, 357 roads blocked, 599 power distribution transformers (DTRs) are out of service, and 177 water supply schemes have been affected in the state.

The low-pressure area, which was formed around 8.30 am, is expected to concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours and cross the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts on the morning of August 19, it said. Under its impact, heavy rainfall is expected to lash different parts of the state for four days, it said. Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is likely in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts on Monday, it added. A cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district has killed at least four people and left six others injured, just days after a similar disaster in Kishtwar claimed more than 60 lives. At least four people were killed and six others injured after a cloudburst hit a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, days after a similar tragedy in Kishtwar claimed over 60 lives earlier this week. Officials said several houses in the Ghati area were buried under rubble and floodwaters, while damage was also reported along the Jammu–Pathankot National Highway. Rescue teams have reached the spot. The incident occurred during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, cutting off access to the village and causing damage to land and property. Heavy rains have meanwhile pushed water levels dangerously high in several rivers, with the Ujh flowing close to the danger mark, the officials said.
