WILL DERREK COOPER BE OFF THE BOARD?
The elite running back recruit has been busy with his national official visit schedule, taking in Georgia over the weekend and Florida State into the early week. Alabama, Miami, Auburn and others hosted him prior and/or are looking to make a late run at the South Florida native.
Cooper talked about coming off the board as early as this week in a recent conversation with Rivals, but the back-to-back stops in Athens and Tallahassee could present a potential wrench in those plans. Going into the latest visit stretch, the Cooper recruitment had long felt like a Miami-Georgia battle so those two programs will continue to hold the buzz until a verbal commitment is to be made.
Will Cooper stay home with The U or make a second commitment to Kirby Smart and company?
SHUFFLE ATOP THE 2026 RANKINGS
Four of the nation's top-10 running back projections in the class of 2026, as well as the top-ranked all-purpose back in the rising-senior class, will be hitting the field in Indianapolis together.

Cooper is the only five-star of the bunch to date, but Notre Dame commitment Javian Osborne, Ohio State pledge Favour Akih, future Florida back Carsyn Baker and spring USC commitment Deshonne Redeaux are each bringing a unique style to the event in addition to representing powerhouse college programs.
In a setting that values versatility and flash ability in space, which of the committed backs can challenge Cooper for a potential fifth star or run at the top of the position rankings?
Going into it, Osborne is the closest, currently tabbed as the No. 3 running back in the Rivals250.
A PAIR OF TOP 2027 PROSPECTS CRASHING THE PARTY
The rising-senior class is loaded and there is a special 2028 to participate with the running back group, but the top of the 2027 board will also be well-represented in Indy with top-ranked running back recruit Tyson Robinson and No. 1 all-purpose back CJ Cowley also signed up for the event.

Robinson, who holds more than 30 scholarship offers to his name, brings a traditional compact build to the table along with real intrigue coming out of the state of Mississippi in what could be a breakout national performance.
Cowley has flashed in camp settings this offseason, even snagging running back MVP honors at the Under Armour Atlanta event, so expect the Alabama native to continue to work well against linebackers and defensive backs considering the indoor setting.
THE ERIC MCFARLAND SHOW
While very few 2028 recruits were even under consideration for a Rivals Five-Star invite, IMG Academy's Eric McFarland was on the list at multiple positions. The running back and wide receiver hybrid may become his own storyline if he continues to work out at each spot with the type of dominance he has shown over the last year or so no matter where he lines up.
The event is not a padded setting, so McFarland's ability to work away from contact coming out of the backfield, in the slot or otherwise will almost certainly turn heads. There isn't a traditional back on the roster with the Las Vegas native's chops as a route-runner or potential finisher at the catch point, so it would be foolish to overlook the speedy freshman's value despite his youth.

Oilers' Kris Knoblauch Reveals Major Update on Goalie Situation
Oilers' Kris Knoblauch Reveals Major Update on Goalie Situation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Just as the Edmonton Oilers looked dead in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, the team fully stormed back. Edmonton stunned the Florida Panthers to even the series at 2-2, with the scene shifting back to Edmonton for Game 5. Advertisement But much of this had to do with the decision to pull goalie Stuart Skinner by Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch. Skinner was pulled after allowing three goals on 17 shot attempts in the first period. The Oilers went back to Calvin Pickard, who did just enough to allow the Edmonton offense to go to work. But with Game 5 coming up, the Oilers aren't fully ready to name a starting goalie. "I'm not going to name (a starter) yet," Knoblauch said on Friday before the team headed back to Edmonton. Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner (74) awaits the start of play against the Florida Panthers in the 2025 Stanley Cup Rassol-Imagn Images For the postseason, Skinner is 7-6 with a 2.99 goals-against average, .891 save percentage, and three shutouts. Pickard has gone 7-0 with a 2.69 GAA and .896 save percentage in nine games. Advertisement Numbers likely point to the Oilers going back to Pickard for Game 5, but Skinner has helped this team get to this point. Edmonton can't really go wrong with either goalie, but Pickard seems to be a better choice at this point. Florida figured something out with Skinner, and this move could have saved the entire series for the Oilers. Edmonton was staring at a 3-1 series deficit, but now all the momentum has shifted right back in their favor. Game 5 between the two sides is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, at 8 p.m. ET. Devils Predicted to Land All-Star to Massively Improve Roster
Devils Predicted to Land All-Star to Massively Improve Roster originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New Jersey Devils fell short of their goal of winning the Stanley Cup this year, but the team did make the postseason. New Jersey was bounced out in the first round of the playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes, and they just couldn't muster up enough to get over the hump. Advertisement As the team heads into the offseason, New Jersey could be preparing to make some changes to the roster. Injuries did hold this group back this year, but the fact remains that they fell short of the ultimate goal. New Jersey could use an extra push on offense, and one way to make that happen could be via the trade market. The Devils could be active players, and they have been linked with veteran Jonathan Marchessault of the Nashville Predators. NHL writer Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report linked the two sides together, mentioning Marchessault as an option for New Jersey. "Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald could shake up his forward lines to generate more would give Fitzgerald additional wiggle room to add a scoring forward via free agency or by acquiring someone like Marchessault in a trade," Richardson wrote. Vegas Golden Knights right wing Jonathan Marchessault (81) checks Dallas Stars left wing Jason Robertson (21) during the third period of game four of the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs a... Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images Additionally, James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey Now reported that New Jersey targeted Marchessault in free agency last year before he landed in Nashville. The team could look to go after him once again, looking for a spark to the unit. Advertisement Marchessault scored 21 goals and 35 assists over 78 games for the Predators in his first season with the team. The veteran wing would bring title experience to the table and could be the missing piece to a team that wants to compete for a title.
