Labour department forms society to hire outsourcing staff
The decision will help over 4,000 outsourcing staff working in various departments of the govt in Mysuru district.
Contract employees appointed by private recruitment agencies are not getting their salaries on time, and the agencies also deny them various benefits.
The labour department often receives complaints from outsourcing staff that they were deprived of their ESI, PF, and other benefits from their outsourcing agencies and contractors who hired them.
Currently, various departments of the govt, including health, social welfare, education, agriculture, horticulture, and various boards and corporations, hire outsourcing staff through agencies and contractors on fixed monthly remuneration.
They provide monthly wages, including ESI, PF, and other benefits for outsourcing staff through agencies.
Once the co-op society is formed, all outsourcing staff will become its members. Various departments of the govt, including boards and corporations, can hire outsourcing staff through the society. Mahadevaswamy, general secretary of Mysuru District Social Welfare Department Outsourcing Employees' Association, said the formation of a cooperation society will help outsourcing staff to get their wages on time, besides ESI, PF, and other benefits.

Photo by P Sreedharan COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has opened a new road from Lanka Corner Railway bridge to the Vincent Road Junction to ease traffic congestion on the Big Bazaar Road and Vincent Road. The road is said to reduce at least 30% of the vehicle flow heading towards Bazaar Street up to Ukkadam. The road, laid on the bunds of Valankulam Lake, terminates a few metres away from the Ukkadam- Sungam bypass roundabout. The one-way stretch of 805 meters is open to two vehicles and cars proceeding towards from the Government Hospital Road. This initiative is part of the city corporation's traffic management plan to have better mobility within the city limits. According to a corporation officer, "The road is about seven meters wide and can handle cars as well. Except for heavy vehicles, the rest of the vehicles heading towards Ukkadam can use this route. The entire day, irrespective of peak hours, the Vincent Road remains congested as too many vehicles use this narrow road as an alternative to reach Ukkadam. Goa's idol makers battle PoP threat ahead of festivities
Panaji: As Ganesh Chaturthi nears and concerns rise over market penetration of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, the Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC) has begun surveying markets to prevent the sale of PoP idols. Over the last four years, the number of registered traditional idol makers rose from 367 to 475, said GHRSSIDC managing director Damodar Morajkar. Despite the corporation's subsidy scheme, traditional idol makers struggle with rising costs, insufficient aid, and labour shortages. Morajkar said the survey to identify PoP idol sales began on Aug 8, and so far, GHRSSIDC's inspection has flagged none. He said that the inspection will continue until Aug 24. 'Local mud clay idols are the customer's first choice, due to our awareness campaigns. The Shadu Mati and coconut fibre idols from Maharashtra are also in demand, but not as much as the local clay ones,' Morajkar told TOI . GHRSSIDC offers a subsidy of Rs 250 per idol for up to 250 idols to the local idol makers. As of July 2025, GHRSSIDC received 367 local vendor applications for registration.
