The victim, identified as Roshan, a resident of AECS Layout, had stepped out around 11 am to pick up breakfast for his ailing wife and child. He had barely travelled a few hundred metres from his home on a gearless scooter when the accident occurred near the Vaibhav Theatre junction, according to police, reported The Times of India.
As he attempted to overtake a car from the right side, Roshan lost balance and fell close to a BMTC bus that was moving nearby. Though the vehicle was reportedly travelling at a slow speed, he was run over by the rear wheels. Police said Roshan sustained severe internal injuries and died shortly after, as per the report.

The driver of the bus, Kallappa, has been charged with causing death due to negligence and was released later on station bail. Roshan, originally from Kushalnagar in Kodagu district, leaves behind his wife, 18-month-old child and parents.

A senior traffic official emphasized the dangers of riding too close to large vehicles. Even a minor brush or misjudgement near a heavy vehicle can be deadly, he said. Citing a similar accident last week in Roopena Agrahara, where another young rider lost his life under a BMTC bus after clipping an autorickshaw, the officer urged two-wheeler riders to maintain safe distances and avoid risky overtaking.

Karnataka child marriage figures show marginal dip in 2024-25
Mysuru: Incidents of child marriage continue to be high in Karnataka, with 700 cases reported in 2024-25. Though this shows a roughly 3% dip in cases compared to the previous fiscal, the overall numbers are still quite alarming. A district-wise breakup put Shivamogga, Belagavi, and Chitradurga in the top three, with Mysuru and Mandya in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Laxmi Hebbalkar, the women and child development minister, said in the assembly last week that in 2023-24, about 719 child marriages took place in the state. This year, between April and June 2025, the state reported 211 cases. The minister, in her reply to a query on the measures taken by the department to prevent child marriages, said senior police and district administrative officials have been instructed to take necessary action to prevent child marriages. The govt has initiated measures to run awareness drives on KSRTC and BMTC buses to prevent child marriages. As a deterrent to tackle the scourge, a draft amendment bill 2025 has been prepared, which has been approved by the cabinet. The bill seeks to criminalise even acts such as attempts, preparations, and engagements for child marriage. Presently, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, doesn't allow the police to register complaints on these grounds. President of the Child Welfare Committee, Mysuru, M Ravichandra, told TOI in all cases of child marriage, an FIR is registered against the parents and relatives. If a minor girl is physically abused, then the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act are invoked. Elopement is also a reason behind child marriages, with parents marrying off the minors fearing social stigma and ostracism, the president explained. Jasheela, a counsellor at Santwana Kendra at HD Kote in Mysuru, claimed cases of child marriage are high among economically weaker families. Two girls, both 17, who were believed to be in a relationship, were rescued recently before their families could marry them off, she said. Mandya DCPO S Rashmi claimed efforts are on to prevent child marriage at all levels. According to Rashmi, the efforts have already yielded favourable results, as the number of cases of child marriage have come down. Bengaluru IT professional sues employer for leaving him in Uganda, wins Rs 3 lakh
A Bengaluru-based techie has won a legal battle against his former employer, securing unpaid dues of Rs 3 lakh with 6 per cent annual interest, along with a relieving letter and the return of his original educational certificates and the other withheld documents, following a dispute over an overseas assignment in 2019. According to a report in The Times of India, Rakshith M V, a resident of ITI Layout, Papareddipalya, Bengaluru, joined Locus IT Services Pvt Ltd in September 2016 and resigned in August 2020. In December 2019, the firm assigned him to a client project in Kampala, Uganda. The assignment, however, ran into delays. Rakshith alleged that he was 'stranded' in Uganda until July 2020, receiving neither financial assistance nor technical support despite 'repeated requests'. He further claimed that his salary and allowances were suddenly halved during the extended stay and that the company continued deducting Rs 3,600 every month towards provident fund contributions, which were never deposited. On top of this, expenses on domestic travel and other charges amounting to nearly Rs 3 lakh were never reimbursed, the TOI reported. According to Rakshith, the managing director of the company had conveyed decisions, including the pay cut and his prolonged stay, only through verbal communication. 'There was no formal email trail, leaving me with no written proof,' he said. After resigning, Rakshith issued a legal notice in September 2021, but it was returned 'unclaimed.' He went on to file a civil suit in January 2022, demanding reimbursement and release of his certificates. The company, represented by its managing director Rohith Kudukuli, denied all allegations and accused Rakshith of absconding mid-project. However, additional city civil and sessions judge Shivanand Maruti Jipare ruled in Rakshith's favour, directing the firm to clear his dues with 6 per cent annual interest and hand over his certificates, the report added. While the court acknowledged that the company had shown Rakshith left Uganda without approval, it observed that this did not justify withholding his dues or crucial documents. The judge said such actions had caused him 'irreparable hardship' and put his career at risk.
