After consulting with Diogo's family, Liverpool confirmed that no member of a team across all levels of the club would wear the number 20 out of respect.
Since the two Portuguese footballers died, thousands of physical tributes such as flowers, scarves, works of art, cards, banners and opposition jerseys have been placed to create a beautiful memorial at Anfield.

Liverpool have since provided updates on how they will honour Diogo and Andre with more permanent tributes moving forward.
The thousands of physical tributes outside Anfield have been gradually removed over the course of the last week and carefully separated and safely stored.
Floral tributes will then be composted and used in flower beds across all club sites, including Anfield, the AXA Training Centre and AXA Melwood Training Centre.y Diogo wore the number 20 for Liverpool and that shirt was recently retired by the club to honour his legacy. In the meantime, a temporary area of reflection has been created at Anfield so people can continue to pay their respects.
Supporters that want to honour Diogo by getting his name and number on the back of a jersey can do so in official club stores or via their official online store and all profits will go to LFC Foundation, the club's official charity. The Foundation has committed to creating a grassroots football programme in Diogo's name.
Supporters will also have the chance to pay their respects during all of Liverpool's pre-season games, including their return to Anfield on August 4 for a double-header against Spanish side Athletic Club.
For two pre-season games that are happening in Asia, the players' shirts will include a specially designed patch that will display 'Diogo J. 20'.
A floral tribute will also be laid before kick-off at the games in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Anfield.
When Liverpool's new kits are launched on August 1, players will display their own tribute with a specially made 'Forever 20' emblem printed into their shirts and stadium jackets, which will remain in place for the entire season.
The main commemoration, including a special fan mosaic and a minute of silence, is being planned for the first game of the Premier League season, against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday August 15.
Liverpool stated that they are expressing their 'heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to everyone who has taken the time, and continues to take the time, to leave tributes in honour of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Anfield'.

Hollie Doyle 'devastated' as she leads tributes for Trueshan after fatal injury
A visibly moved Hollie Doyle paid homage to her long-standing partner Trueshan, following the tragic loss of one of Flat racing's stalwarts at Goodwood on Tuesday. The much-loved stayer suffered a fatal injury, leaving fans and the racing community in shock. Doyle was aboard Alan King's nine year old for the fourth time in the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup, a race they had previously won in 2021. The gelding was participating in his 35th race of an illustrious career when he abruptly pulled up halfway through. Reflecting on their shared victories, which included 11 wins and three consecutive triumphs in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot on British Champions Day, a heartbroken Doyle told the PA news agency: "I'm just devastated. It couldn't be any worse. He was a special, special horse, I can't think of anything else to say." 'I am gutted. He's been amazing for me, a star, and those memories we have together are some of my very best.' A 16-time winner – three of them coming at Group One level – Trueshan had attracted a following that is unusual for a Flat horse due to his longevity. In 2022 he dropped into handicap company to defy one of the highest marks in recent times when winning the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle. James Given, the British Horseracing Authority's director of equine welfare, told ITV Racing: 'I want to express my sincere condolences to all the connections and anyone associated with the horse, no one is going to feel this more than them. 'He's been a stalwart, he's been a firm friend, he's been everything to them 'What has happened unfortunately is just an accident, mid-race, in a straight line going up a hill. His left-hind pastern broke and left him in a situation that wasn't recoverable from. 'Alan was able to get down there and assess him with the vet and they felt there was no option really but to put him down.'

Ascot hero Trueshan dies at Goodwood Festival after being pulled up live on ITV
Legendary horse Trueshan has died following a fatal injury during the Goodwood Cup. Hollie Doyle was riding the Alan King-trained contender when he suffered a serious leg injury in Tuesday's showpiece event. The nine-year-old Ascot winner was in contention for the lead in the £500,000 race when tragedy struck. Doyle attempted to get the horse back on its feet when it became apparent something wasn't right. Speaking on air after the incident, ITV Racing host Ed Chamberlin said: "I just feel so sad about Trueshan." It was later confirmed the horse had to be put down. An ambulance was called onto the track as sad scenes enveloped the racecourse in West Sussex. However, fans were soon hit with the news that the star would not recover. "Unfortunately, Trueshan suffered a fatal injury in the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup," read a statement from ITV. "Our thoughts go out to connections at this difficult time." Trueshan had previously competed in three other editions of the Goodwood Cup. The French-bred gelding won the race in 2021, as well as recording two other impressive finishes of third and fourth. His greatest success was winning the British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot three years straight between 2020 and 2022. Doyle jockeyed the veteran for each of those three triumphs and shared a particular connection. Only two other horses have won the British Champions Long Distance Cup three or more times in a row: High Line (1969-1971) and Further Flight (1991-95). Trueshan competed in 34 races over the course of his career and won 16 of those. That record will ensure his legacy as one of the greatest long-distance horses of his generation. The tragedy marked the second race in succession that required the ambulance to be called onto the track. The first unfolded after Kinross was kicked in the leg moments before the HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes got underway at 2.30pm. Kinross appeared to be bleeding above the knee and was pulled from the race shortly after. There will be more to follow on this breaking news story
