Pa Ranjith gets anticipatory bail
Ranjith was granted anticipatory bail in the case.
Artist S Mohanraj alias SM Raju, 52, died while performing a stunt for Ranjith's movie 'Vettuvam' in Vizhunthamavadivillage on July 13. Besides Ranjith, stunt choreographer Vinoth, manager Rajkamal of Neelam Productions, and stunt car owner Prabhakaran were booked in the case. The other three had already availed anticipatory bail after the accident.
Pa Ranjith appeared with his legal counsel at the court in Kilvelur and was granted anticipatory bail by judge R. Meenakshi. The accident happened when Mohanraj drove a car at high speed over a ramp-like setup, and took off into the air. However, the car spun and toppled, leaving him dead. A case is under investigation at Keelaiyur station under sections 289 (negligent conduct with machinery), 125 (endangering human life), and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of BNS.
The shoot of the movie has been suspended.

Two held for murder of painter over affair, financial dispute in Delhi
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) A 47-year-old man allegedly killed a painter in Delhi, suspecting him of having an affair with his wife and not returning money he had lent him, an official said on Saturday. Two men, identified as Vanketesh alias Raja (47) and Gaurav alias Mulli (25), have been arrested in connection with the crime, the official said, adding that the deceased was identified as Rakesh (35), who worked as a house painter. 'Raja allegedly believed Rakesh had an illicit relationship with his wife. He had also lent him money several times, which was never repaid," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said. A raid at Raja's residence in Madangiri led to the recovery of an eyewitness, Ritik Diwakar alias Cheeta, who confirmed that his father-in-law Raja and Gaurav beat Rakesh using a plastic rod, belt, punches and kicks, and slammed his head against a wall. The duo later transported the body in an auto-rickshaw and dumped it near the Karni Singh Shooting Range to avoid detection, police said. 'The incident came to light on July 11 when a PCR call was received around 11.30 am reporting an unconscious man lying on Surajkund Road near the shooting range in Pul Prahladpur area. A local banana vendor had spotted the body while on his way to work," the DCP added. A police team rushed to the spot and found the victim unresponsive. With no identification documents on the body, over 500 CCTV cameras along MB Road, Surajkund Road and Sangam Vihar were examined, and inquiries were conducted with residents and passersby. After a fingerprint match from the Rampura Fingerprint Bureau, the deceased was identified as Rakesh. A case under sections 103(1) (murder) and 238(a) (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the BNS was registered at the Pul Prahladpur police station on Friday. While analysing CCTV footage from the Madangiri area, the police spotted a man wearing the same shirt that was later found on the deceased. The man was identified as Gaurav, who during sustained interrogation disclosed that Rakesh was beaten by Vanketesh at his residence. Gaurav has a previous case under the Arms Act registered at the Ambedkar Nagar police station, while Raja has been booked earlier under the Excise Act. Further investigation is in progress. 5 held as Delhi Police busts Rs 10-lakh counterfeit auto parts racket
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The Delhi Police has busted a large-scale racket involved in the manufacturing and sale of counterfeit automobile spare parts and engine oil, arresting five people and seizing fake products worth over Rs 10 lakh, an official said on Saturday. The operation targeted two premises — Karol Bagh and Madanpur Dabas — where counterfeit items bearing trademarks of reputed brands like Honda, TVS and ASK were being produced and stored, according to an official statement by police. The raids were conducted following intelligence about the counterfeit trade, which was later verified in coordination with legal representatives of the affected automobile companies, a senior police officer said. A case was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Copyright Act at the Crime Branch police station. 'Large quantities of duplicate engine oil bottles, packaging materials, branding stickers and even machinery used for sealing and packaging were recovered during the raids," Harsh Indora, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), said. Among those arrested was Shubham Panjiyar (29), a resident of Uttam Nagar, who has a prior history in a similar case registered at Nihal Vihar. During interrogation, he confessed to being involved in the illegal trade since 2020. He also provided information to the police about other co-accused who were later apprehended. The other arrested individuals have been identified as Himanshu Kawatara, a trader from Karol Bagh; Naveen alias Deepak Taneja, Panjiyar's brother-in-law; Ramakant Chaurasiya, a supplier of fake bottles; and Shyam Narayan, who provided counterfeit packaging materials. 'The police recovered hundreds of fake items, including over 7,000 counterfeit cap foils and 2,850 bottle caps bearing the Honda brand logo, more than 3,400 TVS-branded caps and nearly 2,800 empty bottles, 1,400 brake shoes marked with the ASK logo and a bottle cap sealing machine used in the illegal operations," the DCP added. Chhattisgarh court grants bail to two Kerala nuns in human trafficking-conversion case
NEW DELHI: A special court in Bilaspur on Saturday granted bail to two Catholic nuns from Kerala who were arrested last week at Durg Railway Station on charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion. Principal District and Sessions Judge (NIA court) Sirajuddin Qureshi had reserved the order on their bail pleas after a hearing on Friday. The court has granted conditional bail to the trio, defence lawyer Amrito Das said. Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis were taken into custody by Government Railway Police (GRP) on 25 July, following a complaint. The complaint alleged that the nuns were attempting to traffic and convert three tribal women from Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district under the guise of offering them employment. Sessions court refused to hear plea Earlier this week, a sessions court in Durg dismissed their bail petitions, stating it had no jurisdiction under Section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to human trafficking.
