Top pass rusher falls to Jaguars in CBS Sports 2025 NFL mock draft
A potential No. 1 pick and the top pass rusher in the 2025 NFL draft class fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a recent mock draft from CBS Sports.
Recently, on the 'With the First Pick' podcast, a year-round draft podcast over at CBS Sports, draft analysts Ryan Wilson and Mike Renner alternated picks and put together a first-round mock draft.
And somehow, Penn State's Abdul Carter fell to the Jaguars at pick No. 5. Below is how the first four picks ahead of Jacksonville played out, pushing Carter down several spots:
(trade with Titans): QB Cam Ward
Cleveland: IDL Mason Graham
Giants: CB/WR Travis Hunter
Patriots: OT Will Campbell
The Jaguars already have Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker on the edge, but this would be an easy pick to make for Jacksonville, and you figure out playing time and the rotations afterward.
Listed at 6-3 - 252 pounds, Carter had a huge 2024 season, totaling 66 pressures and 13 sacks. He also graded out well against the run by PFF's metrics.
Compared to the rest of his position group, Carter was second in pressures, fifth in sacks, and fourth in pass rush win rate. He also had the ninth-mos run stops as well.

Philadelphia Eagles urged to trade for All-Pro pass-rusher
As the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles may not feel a strong sense of urgency to swing for the fences. Then again, the chance to repeat as champions could be just the exact type of motivating factor general manager Howie Roseman needs to execute his latest blockbuster trade. Specifically, analyst and former NFL general manager Marc Ross would like to see the Eagles swing a trade for Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro sack artist Trey Hendrickson. 'The Eagles dominated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl with a relentless pass rush, but Philadelphia has questions on that front heading into the 2025 campaign, given the loss of Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith's injury and the inherent need for young guys like Moro Ojomo (2023 seventh-round pick) and Jalyx Hunt (2024 third-rounder) to level up. General manager Howie Roseman hit big on the trade for wide receiver A.J. Brown in 2022. Trading for Hendrickson, who's in a contract standoff with the Bengals, could provide a similar effect for the defense. Plus, the Eagles just cleared more cap space by dealing Huff. This would be a case of the rich getting richer — and a move I wouldn't put past Philly. ' on Eagles trading for Trey Hendrickson Advertisement As noted, the Eagles interestingly did just part ways with Bryce Huff, who was expected to see regular snaps on gameday. That move not only opened up a few more snaps for others, it also cleared more cap space. In other words, the Eagles could certainly look to reinforce their pass-rush with the NFL's reigning sack leader. Though, in addition to paying whatever price the Bengals are seeking, which may be roughly a second-round pick, Philadelphia will still have to come to terms on a contract extension for the four-time Pro Bowler. Hendrickson is currently set to make $21 million this season in the final year of his contract. Yet, after recording an NFL-high 17.5 sacks, Hendrickson should be able to command at least $30 million per season. He may even creep closer to the $40 million annual salary Myles Garrett is earning from the Cleveland Browns. Is that a price the Eagles are willing to pay? If it means strengthening their Super Bowl odds, Roseman could be ready to pay the price. Pro Football Focus center rankings illustrate value of Aaron Brewer's deal with Dolphins
Pro Football Focus center rankings illustrate value of Aaron Brewer's deal with Dolphins The Miami Dolphins are banking on multiple youngsters morphing into difference makers up front along its offensive line. As the Dolphins navigate forward with some youth, the franchise needs its veteran linemen to be rocks. One of Miami's older heads up front seems to be coming into his own. Sixth-year pro Aaron Brewer is coming off his best season after joining the Dolphins last spring on a three-year, $21 million contract. Brewer's emergence is reflected in Pro Football Focus' latest NFL center rankings. Brewer checks in as the league's No. 7 center according to Mason Cameron. Brewer's move to Miami this past season paved the way for his best season in the NFL. He posted a career-best 74.1 PFF overall grade on a full workload — a top-eight mark at the position. Improvements as a pass protector helped round out his game, as he finished as one of just two qualifying centers to post a 70.0-plus PFF grade as a run blocker and a pass protector. The only other player to hit the mark was Creed Humphrey. - Mason Cameron, Pro Football Focus. Sharing company with the Kansas City Chiefs' Creed Humphrey is certainly a great sign for Miami. Humphrey ranked as PFF's No. 1 center overall. Brewer is likely to share the interior with another veteran and one rookie. The Dolphins selected Arizona offensive lineman Jonah Savaiinaea with their second-round choice in the 2025 NFL draft. Savaiinaea projects as one of the Dolphins' starting guards, joining free agent signee James Daniels who spent the past three seasons in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, second-year pro Patrick Paul, a second-round draft choice in 2024, is set to slot in as the Dolphins' new starting left tackle. Paul is replacing five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Terron Armstead. Sixth-year pro Austin Jackson projects as the Dolphins' starting right tackle.

NFL Pro Bowler shares devastating toll injuries took on career: 'Literally couldn't walk'
Terron Armstead called it a career after playing in the NFL for 12 years and earning four Pro Bowl selections between his time with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins. The 33-year-old offensive lineman battled injuries toward the end of his career. He pointed to the pain as being one of the reasons why he decided to hang up his cleats. "I've been dealing with a knee since my third year in the league," he said in an appearance on the "Nightcap Show." "I didn't see a practice field at all, and not because I didn't want to or the Dolphins just wanted me to rest. It's like I literally couldn't walk. "After a game on Sunday, I wouldn't be able to walk on my own, under my own power, until Wednesday, Thursday. So I was only able to play under the pain meds. I couldn't put any pressure on my knee, so it was like, I can't keep doing that to myself." The Saints chose Armstead in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played in six games in his rookie year before he earned his spot on the offensive line in 2014. He never appeared in all 16 or 17 games during an NFL season. He played the final three years with the Dolphins, and announced his retirement in April. "This was always more than a game to me! This has literally been my LIFE! I look back at my entire journey and I walk away grateful, proud, excited, and at peace, knowing I did it the right way!! Full investment to maximize the blessings God gave me!!" he wrote in part on X. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
