Oasis' last hurrah? San Francisco queer nighclub acts shine at Outside Lands

Oasis showcased a lineup of high-energy acts during the second day of Outside Lands, reminding festivalgoers why it's long been San Francisco's premier queer nightclub — even as it counts down to its closure. The South of Market LGBTQ nightclub announced last month that they would close their doors for good at the end of the year, citing lower bar revenue and surging insurance costs. The club's last night open will take place on New Year's Eve, a full circle moment since opening on New Year's Day in 2025. But during Oasis' showcase on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the festival's pop-up queer space Dolores' performers from the club's nonprofit, Oasis Arts, spoke only of hope for the future as they drew in crowds to the multi-colored stage. 'It's sad, but the show must go on — and we put on a great show,' entertainer Marshalls Forte told the Chronicle before taking to the stage. Forte, a lead actor in the club's parody musical 'Jurrasiq Parq,' performed early Saturday afternoon with a posse of scantily clad dancers. It was just a taste of the campy production that runs at Oasis through Sept. 13. Oasis Arts, which intends to continue the club's mission of uplifting LGBTQ artists, was the second collective to host programming at Dolores', an open-air dance venue at the festival dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ nightlife. It presented a variety of performances, including go-go dancers from 'Reparations,' a monthly all-Black drag show, as well as a DJ set by Outside Lands veteran and the Queen of Bounce herself, Big Freedia. There were also appearances from a few of the club's most well-known local performers, 'Reparations' founder Nicki Jizz and Oasis owner D'Arcy Drollinger. With an impending end date of Jan. 1, the showcase was Oasis' latest effort to attract supporters that could potentially save the fate of the club, which has become a destination for celebrities from Jane Fonda to Cher and a number of 'RuPaul's Drag Show' stars. Pop star Doja Cat was the latest to grace the beloved stage, debuting songs from her forthcoming album, 'Vie' during an intimate performance after her headlining set at Outside Lands on Friday, Aug. 8. Dolores' LGBTQ-centered programming continues on Sunday, Aug. 10, with performances curated by Polyglamorous, a San Francisco dance-party series. The lineup includes a DJ set from 'Friday' singer Rebecca Black and a drag act from San Francisco performer Vivvy.

49ers' Christian McCaffrey makes personal admission amid training camp

The post 49ers' Christian McCaffrey makes personal admission amid training camp appeared first on ClutchPoints. Running back Christian McCaffrey and San Francisco 49ers want nothing more than to redeem themselves after an abysmal performance last season. They missed the playoffs after winning only six games despite coming off an appearance in the Super Bowl a year before. The 49ers were stricken by injuries in their forgettable campaign, and it looks like the situation remains bleak for the upcoming season with several players sidelined, including Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Kyle Juszczyk, and Isaac Guerendo. A silver lining, however, is the return of McCaffrey. He was limited to just four games last season after tearing the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Now, it seems he has fully recovered. An added inspiration for the 49ers star is his newborn daughter with his wife, model and actress Olivia Culpo, who gave birth last month. McCaffrey, however, admitted that he sometimes feels uneasy about his life amid training camp. '(Culpo's) been great, man. You know, she's been so cool. Her mom came out and my mom came out and helped her out. I feel guilty at times. I'm sleeping well in the hotel bedroom while she's doing the dirty work, but (I'm) super thankful for her and she's doing an incredible job,' said the former Offensive Player of the Year in an interview with the NFL Network. McCaffrey and Culpo started dating in 2019, including vacationing together in Mexico. A few months later, they made it official. They got engaged in 2023 and got married a year later in Rhode Island. Being a first-time dad has coincided with McCaffrey's comeback journey, and the three-time All-Pro First Team member wouldn't exchange it for anything, especially with Culpo fully supporting him. 'It's been incredible. You know, getting done with practice, whether you had a good day or a bad day, just being able to go there and see your daughter, it's very special,' added the 49ers star. 'My wife and our families do such a good job of helping out when needed and allowing me to still train and keep football first.' J.J. McCarthy's Fiancée Turns Heads During Vikings Preseason Opener

J.J. McCarthy's Fiancée Turns Heads During Vikings Preseason Opener originally appeared on The Spun. The time has finally come for J.J. McCarthy to solidify himself as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. McCarthy, the No. 10 pick from the 2024 NFL Draft, missed his rookie season due to a torn meniscus. That opened the door for Sam Darnold to start all 17 games. He thrive under head coach Kevin O'Connell, completing 66.2% of his passes for 4,319 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His production earned him a three-year, $100.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Only time will tell if McCarthy has what it takes to lead the Vikings to the promised land. All we can say for sure is 2025 will go down as a year he'll never forget. Not only is McCarthy set to be an NFL starting quarterback, he's about to become a father. He and his fiancée, Katya Kuropas, announced that they're expecting a child in September. "The best surprises come when you least expect them. Our sweet baby boy is arriving in September and we couldn't be happier," they wrote in a joint Instagram post. McCarthy and Kuropas met when they were in high school. Back in 2023, the former Michigan star shared a beautiful message on their anniversary. "1,825 days with the love of my life but a million moments that will be remembered and cherished for the rest of my life," McCarthy wrote. "I couldn't be more grateful for who you are and everything you do! You make me the best version of myself and it has been a complete blessing to continually watch you grow into the amazing woman you are." In January 2024, McCarthy and Kuropas got engaged. As you'd expect, Kuropas is very supportive of McCarthy's career. "Extremely delayed but… Reminiscing on how amazing this past season was," Kuropas wrote on Instagram prior to the 2024 NFL Draft. "An abundance of blessings and the best memories. Feeling so grateful for everything that unfolded & for everyone that was part of it!! Sad to see this chapter go, but excited for the next one." There's no question McCarthy's family will be cheering him on this NFL season. J.J.
