'My Best Friend's Wedding 2' Is in the Works With a Script by Celine Song
Rom-com lovers, stand up. My Best Friend's Wedding—the 1997 classic starring Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, and Dermot Mulroney—is getting a sequel decades later. Collider reported that the project is in 'very early development' (emphasis theirs) at Sony with Celine Song writing the script. This is huge news for fans of romance, yearning, and love triangles.
The original film follows Julianne (Roberts) and her best friend, Michael (Mulroney), who promised each other they'd get married if they were still single by the time they turned 28. (This cutoff didn't age well, we know.) But when Michael finally gets engaged, Julianne realizes she's actually in love with him.
News of the sequel, which arrives 28 (!) years later, brings up some important questions like: What will be 2025's answer to 'Say a Little Prayer'? Can anyone remove a ring stuck on someone's finger as smoothly as Dermot Mulroney? As we wait to learn more, here's everything we know about My Best Friend's Wedding 2 so far.
It's too early to say, and it's still unclear whether the sequel will bring back the original characters or which stars are confirmed to return.
Celine Song, the acclaimed filmmaker and writer behind Materialists and Past Lives, is writing the screenplay, but she will not be directing, per Variety. Song has shown her expertise in romance (and love triangles) in her two films. She recently told ELLE, 'Love is meaningless unless it's unconditional. And that, to me, is non-negotiable.'
While they've yet to address the recent news, the stars have opened up about a potential follow-up film.
On July 25, Mulroney vaguely hinted at sequel plans. 'I know nothing about it. Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote,' he told New York Post while promoting Netflix's The Hunting Wives.
Roberts even expressed interest back in 2023. When asked on Watch What Happens Live which of her films she'd like to see a sequel for, she replied, 'I think, maybe, My Best Friend's Wedding,' according to Deadline. 'Because there's so many people in it, and to see what they're doing and how Kimmy and Michael's marriage is going and…'
And when host Andy Cohen asked her who Michael should have married, she added, 'Well, I mean, of course, Jules, but he married Kimmy.' Could this be a seed for the sequel?
The original My Best Friend's Wedding is available to rent or buy on platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV+.

General Hospital spoilers: Willow and Michael face two big obstacles to a reunion?
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. You'd be hard pressed to find a General Hospital fan that's not applauding the downfall of Drew (Cameron Mathison) and the end of the dreaded #Drillow. Finally aware that he slept with her mother, Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) scolded Drew in an epic showdown on her would-be wedding day and swore to be done with him for good. It may have taken over a year for us to get here, but thankfully, we've made it and Willow has woken up. While we suppose there is always a chance that Drew could manage to sweet-talk Willow back into a reconciliation, we actually think she meant what she said when she professed to being done with the congressman. Sleeping with Nina (Cynthia Watros) was one thing, but manipulating her children (i.e., making sure Wylie [Viron Weaver] heard him stating Michael [Rory Gibson] didn't want him anymore) placed him in a place there's no coming back from. With that being said, and now that Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) is out of the picture, some General Hospital fans believe a reunion is in the cards for Michael and Willow. Since this is the soap world, we certainly can't rule that out. However, there is so much bad blood between the exes that they'd have to be really committed to doing the hard work and have a love that's still there to get past all of their transgressions. We've taken the liberty to come up with two of the biggest hurdles to a #Millow reunion, and that starts with Willow herself. In the aftermath of losing custody of her children, Willow stalked Sasha and baby Daisy as payback. Willow's actions went so far that she sent Sasha packing, leaving Michael without ready access to his newborn daughter. If Michael were to ever learn that, he'd likely become enraged. Sadly, with Drew having an inkling of Willow's heinous actions and him being Drew, we can't rule out that he'll tell Michael to sabotage a reconciliation. A second obstacle comes in the form of Mini-Carly, aka Josslyn (Eden McCoy). We'd usually say Mama Bear Carly (Laura Wright) would be strictly opposed to Michael and Willow getting back together, but Carly, at her core, has always liked Willow. She loathes that Willow hurt her son, but Carly was like a mother figure to Willow at one point, and they shared a close bond before Drew. Carly may have blasted Willow several times when news of the affair broke, even likening Willow to Nelle (Chloe Lanier), but we think Carly always felt bad that Willow allowed herself to be manipulated by Drew. Plus, Carly may not cause too much of a fuss about a possible reunion if she knows it will make her grandchildren happy, and a reunion is done in a truthful and non-toxic manner. This brings us back to Josslyn. The newly minted WSB agent loves her brother and has scolded Willow more than anyone has. Josslyn is very protective of her brother and may not want to see him go down a path with Willow that sees him hurting again. While soapy affairs aren't new, and Josslyn herself has cheated in a relationship, Willow cheated with her husband's uncle, good friend and business partner wrapped in one. That's pretty low. And Josslyn may love her nephew and niece, but we wouldn't put it past her to devise a scheme to ensure Michael and Willow become nothing more than good co-parents. So, are Willow and Michael going to try and reconcile? Would they stand a chance with her secret about Sasha and Daisy out there, or with Josslyn around Port Charles? Temuera Morrison wants native Hawaiians to be proud of 'Chief of War'
1 of 5 | Jason Momoa (L) and Temuera Morrison star in "Chief of War," premiering Friday. Photo courtesy of Apple TV+ NEW YORK, July 31 (UPI) -- Aquaman and The Book of Boba Fett actor Temuera Morrison says he hopes native Hawaiians are proud that Chief of War focuses on their history and features a primarily Polynesian cast. "This is very fresh. I haven't seen anything quite like this before in my whole life," Morrison, 64, told UPI in a recent Zoom interview. "At the end of the day, I want Hawaiian people to be proud and reclaim themselves, reclaim their identity and feel proud about their Hawaiian heritage," the New Zealander added. "We're blessed because we're all the same people." Morrison said that on the first day of filming, the woman who operated the boom microphone told him he was playing her ancestor. #ChiefOfWar premieres tomorrow. ʻĀpōpō ka hōʻike mua o Chief of War. Apple TV (@AppleTV) July 31, 2025 "That's all she said and she waled away and I said, 'Oh, my God!' It suddenly hit me that we have a responsibility here. We are representing all these people and I am playing her ancestor. Fortunately for me, she never hit me on the head with her microphone, so I must have been on the right track." Premiering Friday on Apple TV+, the nine-episode series takes place in 18th century Hawaii when the islands' leaders disagreed about whether they should peacefully unify or conquer each other. Jason Momoa co-wrote and produced the action drama, in which he also plays Ka'iana, the titular hero. Morrison plays his frenemy Chief Kahekili and Cliff Curtis plays Keoua, another rival king. "Jason needed some support posts around him. He knew Cliff and I had the experience in this medium," Morrison said. "We were humbled to get the opportunity. Personally, it was quite an adventure, spiritually, culturally. We all had to learn the Hawaiian language. That was quite challenging." Morrison admitted he initially had some reservations about taking on the pivotal role in such an epic. "I'm very, very grateful that I decided to do this project because I was trying to run away in the beginning. I didn't think I could do it," he recalled. "Then, there were things like the cold. We were running around with hardly any clothes on. My feet aren't as hard as our Polynesian ancestors' used to be. Every now and then, I'd be like: 'Ah! Ah! Can I wear my shoes, please, please!' The volcanic rocks were killing me, but what a journey it's been." It was Hawaiian-born Momoa who convinced Morrison to join the epic project. "Jason said: 'Bro, bro, we're the same people, man! We're the same people. Get on board!' So, with those words of encouragement, I said, 'Yeah, bro, you are right. I think it's about sharing our Polynesian culture and heritage and supporting one another," Morrison said. Fear the Walking Dead and The Meg alum Curtis, 57, described his and Morrison's characters as the antagonists of the story. "The hero's journey is shown through the character Ka'iana, played by Jason Momoa. He's the chief who left the Hawaiian islands, went into the world and came back with technology to help unite the islands," Curtis said. "The chief of war has to choose which king he is going to fight for. It's a classic, archetypal story structure. Even though there is a new language and new costumes, visages and things that look different, the classical structure is something that all of humanity can relate to and recognize themselves in it." The geopolitics of the bygone era mirrors what some people are still experiencing in 2025, Curtis noted. "As we look back to our past, we see our ancestors struggle with the very same things as our current situation in the world," he added. "To live in peace or live in war." The ensemble also includes Luciane Buchanan,Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale'o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, Te Kohe Tuhaka and Benjamin Hoetjes. Jason Momoa's career: epic action roles and red carpets Jason Momoa (C), a cast member in "Conan the Barbarian," attends the premiere of the film with his girlfriend at the time, actress Lisa Bonet (R), and her daughter with Lenny Kravitz, actress Zoe Kravitz, at the Regal Theatre in Los Angeles on August 11, 2011. General Hospital spoilers: Michael's big decision about the kids?
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. General Hospital spoilers say that Michael (Rory Gibson) has a big decision to make, and that decision probably has to do with his ex-wife Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). Michael has tried in the past to work out a split custody arrangement with Willow because he knows it's important for the kids to have a good relationship with their mother. Her relationship with Drew made that impossible. But now that Willow has left Drew, Michael has to decide whether or not to let Willow be part of the kids' lives. The custody hearing is still months away, but Michael knows it would hurt the kids to not see their mom for months. Michael could choose to let Willow be around the kids if someone is there to supervise them, so she doesn't kidnap them or do something impulsive or crazy. He does seem to want to let the kids have time with their mom. Can Willow really be trusted though? Yes, she left Drew. But Willow is not the same. She's a shell of her former self, and she has given up all control of her life to Drew. That's not going to go away overnight. Just because she walked away from marrying Drew that doesn't mean she's going to be in the right mental state to have any kind of shared custody. Drew also has already bulldozed his way into the Q mansion demanding to see Willow, so until that relationship is really done it's definitely not safe for the kids to be around Willow. Drew could come barging in and scare them at any time. Michael knows that Willow loves the kids. And now he knows that she isn't with Drew any longer. However, he doesn't know that Willow is the reason that Sasha (Sofia Mattson) had to flee Port Charles to keep baby Daisy safe. If he finds out that Willow was the one sneaking into the Quartermaine mansion and moving Daisy around he probably won't let her anywhere near Wiley or Amelia even without Drew in her life. The smart move here would be for Drew to tell Willow she needs to get her own apartment or house so she has a stable home for the kids before she can spend time with them. And, she needs to make sure Drew knows their relationship is over for good. If she can demonstrate that's getting her independence back, then he could let her see the kids. Some counseling wouldn't hurt, either. Michael's big decision could also have to do with his father, Sonny (Maurice Benard) or with Kristina (Kate Mansi) now that he knows she tried to kill Ava (Maura West). But it's more likely that the big decision will be whether or not leaving Drew is enough to earn Willow the chance to spend time with her kids again. No one wants a mother to be separated from her children. However, Willow let Drew change her, and she needs to prove that she can be a calm and stable presence in the kids' lives before she's allowed to see them regularly. Hopefully, Michael will make Willow stay away from the kids until he's sure can put them first. New episodes of General Hospital air on weekdays on ABC.
