Two arrested by MACC over RM8.1 million fraud in machinery, waste disposal services

PUTRAJAYA: Two individuals have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of submitting false particulars amounting to approximately RM8.1 million, involving the provision of machinery rental services, facilities, and waste disposal. According to sources, a former company owner and a former Chief Financial Officer, both in their 40s to 50s, were arrested around 6.30 pm on Tuesday when they arrived to give their statements at the MACC Headquarters here. 'Both suspects are believed to be involved in corruption and money laundering for the provision of machinery and facility rental services between 2019 and 2021. 'Additionally, the investigation also focuses on claims for waste disposal services that occurred from January to October 2022, as well as the receipt of bribe money,' the source said. The source added that MACC's investigation is also identifying other criminal offences under the Penal Code and money laundering activities. Through 'Op Flora,' conducted by MACC's Special Operations Division (BOK) at 11 premises around the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan yesterday, MACC has frozen 76 bank accounts, comprising individual and company accounts, totaling approximately RM1.68 million.

Zara Qairina's family lawyer welcomes A-GC decision to charge bullying suspects
KOTA KINABALU: The legal team representing the family of Zara Qairina Mahathir has welcomed the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) decision to charge several suspects in connection with her alleged bullying case. The team, led by Hamid Ismail, said the decision aligns with recommendations they submitted to the A-GC on Aug 14. "Our proposal at the time was based on disclosures by the Director of Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department, which revealed evidence pointing to bullying prior to the incident involving Zara Qairina. "Therefore, prosecution must be carried out against those named in the evidence under Section 507D(2) of the Penal Code," the lawyers said in a joint statement today. However, the lawyers noted that they have yet to be informed of the identities of those who will be charged in court. Earlier, the Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, when contacted, confirmed that five teenage girls would be charged in connection with Zara Qairina's death. Dusuki said the five would be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Juvenile Court on Wednesday. The A-GC said the decision was b ased on police investigation papers.

Six men remanded over armed assault outside nightclub
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have remanded six men for four days after a 29-year-old man was assaulted by a group of armed individuals outside a nightclub in the city. Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the suspects, aged between 25 and 29, were arrested following a report lodged at 9.33am yesterday. A 28-second video of the incident has since gone viral, showing the victim being attacked and sustaining injuries to his back. "The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons during a riot, and Section 326 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt," he said in a statement today. He added that police obtained a four-day remand order for all suspects under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, until Thursday.

Six men arrested over armed riot at KL nightclub
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested six men suspected of being involved in an armed riot at a nightclub in the capital on Sunday (Aug 17), which left another man injured. Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the arrests followed a police report lodged by a 29-year-old man at 9.33am on Saturday. The victim claimed he was assaulted by a group of unidentified men while leaving the nightclub, sustaining injuries to his back. "Acting on the information, six suspects aged 25 to 29 were arrested. All are remanded for four days until Aug 21," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 18), adding that the case was being investigated under Sections 148 and 326 of the Penal Code.
