Main road into Yosemite National Park closed after rain triggers rockslide
After several recent rains, a main highway into Yosemite National Park is closed indefinitely due to a rockslide, state officials said.
About a two-mile stretch of Route 140 between Briceburg and El Portal leading into the park is closed after wet weather caused rocks to fall onto the road in a narrow canyon, SFGate reported.
In the last few weeks, California has been hit with repeated storms that have dumped feet of snow in the mountains and created debris flows and rockslides on highways across the state.
In a Facebook post, the California Highway Patrol suggested motorists use State Routes 41 and 120 as alternatives to enter Yosemite.

Caltrans briefly closing last exit on southbound I-5 before border
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Caltrans crews are planning to temporarily close the last exit on southbound Interstate 5 before reaching the U.S.-Mexico border for construction work. The overnight closure to the Camino De La Plaza exit will begin Tuesday, June 17 at 9 p.m. and last until Wednesday, June 18 at 6 a.m. During that time, Caltrans says it will be installing a pipe in the area as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements. Signs will be posted to alert motorists to the closure. Those headed southbound but do not intend to enter Mexico at the San Ysidro Port-of-Entry will need to get off at the Via De San Ysidro Boulevard exit. Yosemite National Park Makes Big Summer Announcement After Uncertainty, Budget Cuts
The summer season is bringing a reason to celebrate—finally—at Yosemite National Park. Following several years of challenges, beginning in 2020 with closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic and continuing through to record-low budget cuts that have caused massive staff shortages, California's most visited national park has some good news for visitors. For the first time in six years, all 13 of Yosemite's campgrounds will be open to the public this summer, adding approximately 500 additional campsites for overnight visitors.'We're very excited to have these campgrounds open to the public as we enter the busy summer season,' said Ray McPadden, Yosemite's Acting Superintendent, in a statement released on Wednesday. 'Camping in this park is truly a magical experience, and we want to provide the opportunity for as many visitors as possible.'
