North Vancouver man charged with impersonating police officer

North Vancouver RCMP shared this photo of a truck seized from someone who was arrested for impersonating an officer. Charges have been laid against a North Vancouver man accused of impersonating a police officer, Mounties announced Thursday. The North Vancouver RCMP says on March 1 officers were alerted to a man driving a Ford F-150 that pulled over a Tesla. 'During the interaction, the driver of the F-150 allegedly identified himself as a North Vancouver RCMP officer and it's alleged that his vehicle had lights that resembled emergency vehicle lights,' reads a news release from the detachment. The alleged fake Mountie was arrested a few days later and released with a court date. On June 24, the B.C. Prosecution Service charged Wayne Church, born in 1966, with impersonating a police officer and using equipment likely to cause the public to believe he was a police officer. Church is next due in court July 23. 'Police are offering tips to anyone who may suspect they have been pulled over by a police impersonator,' said spokesperson Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, in the release. 'Public safety is our top priority, and we want to ensure the community feels empowered to question suspicious behaviour. If something doesn't feel right during a traffic stop, trust your instincts and take steps to verify the officer's identity. Your caution could help prevent further incidents and assist in ongoing investigations.' If you suspect you were pulled over by a fake cop, Mounties say to ask to see the officer's identification card and badge. If suspicious, police say to call 911 so a dispatcher can verify if an officer is conducting a traffic stop in the area. 'Trust your instincts: If something feels amiss, inform the individual that you're contacting the police to verify their identity,' the release reads. 'Genuine officers will understand and support your caution.'

Video shows impaired driver crash into Guelph hydro pole

A Guelph man has been charged with impaired driving after he hit a hydro pole on Wednesday. A witness in the area of Speedvale Avenue East and Delhi Street called Guelph Police about an erratic driver in a white Lincoln Navigator around 4:15 p.m. Soon after, the caller said the vehicle went over the curb and hit a hydro pole. Dash camera video of the incident then showed the driver reversing and allegedly attempting to leave. When officers arrived, they said the driver's breath smelled like alcohol and other signs of impairment were noticeable. Police said they arrested the man and took him into custody. It was at the police station where officers confirmed the man had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. The 32-year-old man from Guelph was charged with impaired driving and driving without insurance. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Teen charged in Quadeville, Ont. attack appears in court

A road sign marks the limits of Quadeville, Ont., on Friday, July 11, 2025. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Adrian Wyld The teenage boy accused of attempted murder and sexual assault in connection with an attack on an eight-year-old Quadeville, Ont. girl made a brief appearance in a Pembroke court on Thursday. The 17-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was in shackles and wore burgundy clothing as he entered the prisoner's box. The teen's parents cried as he was brought into court with his dad hanging his head while resting his arm over the court bench. The 17-year-old is charged with attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon on a person under 16 years old. On June 24, a young girl was found after midnight with life-threatening injuries along Quadeville Road in Quadeville, about 170 kilometres west of Ottawa. She'd been reported missing hours before. Ontario Provincial Police initially said they suspected the girl was injured in an animal attack but didn't rule out human involvement. Animal traps were set up as a precaution and parents were asked to keep young children inside. Samples taken from the victim's wounds revealed no traces of animal DNA, according to police. On Saturday, OPP held a town hall in response to frustration and concerns from the community about what happened and the police response. The 17-year-old will appear in court next month.
