Cong's ‘appeasement' politics led to Partition: Adityanath
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with reviving this forgotten history by declaring August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in 2021. 'Today, the entire country mourns, remembering the horrors of August 14, 1947,' Adityanath said while inaugurating an exhibition on the occasion at GPO Park in Hazratganj.
Continuing his attack, Adityanath said that while revolutionaries willingly embraced martyrdom for India's freedom, the Congress divided the nation in its 'greed for power'.
'The Congress's policies led to the ethnic cleansing of Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists in places like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Multan in West Pakistan,' the chief minister said.,
'The violence claimed 15-20 lakh lives and displaced crores, marking one of the darkest episodes in history,' he added.
He further accused the then Congress government of showing complete apathy towards those displaced.
'No memorials were built and no museums were established in remembrance of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Christians who were forced to leave their ancestral homes. Their suffering was erased from public memory,' Adityanath said.
He praised PM Modi for granting citizenship and rehabilitation rights to refugees through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), noting that for the first time, displaced people in Jammu and Kashmir and other regions received citizenship and began contributing to India's development.
'The Congress never made any sincere effort for their rehabilitation,' the CM said.
Paying homage to the victims, Adityanath announced that the state government will provide land on leases and full rehabilitation to eligible families under the CAA.
'We are committed to protecting their rights and ensuring their dignity,' he affirmed.
Emphasising the importance of connecting the younger generation with history, Adityanath said the exhibition portrays the grim reality of Partition, the massacres, riots, and forced migrations.
'Under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, this initiative is healing old wounds and awakening future generations to historical truths.' the CM said.
Deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, cabinet minister Swatantra Dev Singh, and BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary among others were present on the occasion.

‘MNS and Sena UBT will contest together in BMC polls': Sanjay Raut
Amid the buzz of an alliance between the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the Shiv Sena (UBT), Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut on Friday claimed that Uddhav and Raj Thackeray will together contest the upcoming civic body elections in the state including the BMC and emerge victorious. Though brothers Raj and Uddhav Thackeray have not yet officially announced anything regarding a pre-poll alliance, Raut said talks were already underway for several municipal corporations, including Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Kalyan Dombivali and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He asserted that 'no one can break the unity of the Thackerays.' 'The Thackeray brothers will contest the civic polls together and they will win. Although neither Uddhav nor Raj has formally announced the official alliance, the two parties have already come together for the August 18 election to the BEST Employees Co-operative Credit Society in Mumbai where the Sena (UBT)-affiliated BEST Kamgar Sena and the MNS-affiliated BEST Kamgar Sena are contesting jointly against a BJP-backed panel led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's aides Prasad Lad and Pravin Darekar. The move marks the first electoral collaboration between the cousins in years, following a series of public appearances together—including a Marathi language event earlier this year on July 5 in Mumbai and Raj's visit to 'Matoshree' on Uddhav's birthday. Sena UBT sees Mumbai and Thane as a key battleground. For the Sena UBT, winning the BMC would be retaining its bastion and rule over Mumbai and winning Thane Municipal Corporation would be a symbolic blow to rival Eknath Shinde, whose political career began there and who currently dominates the body. Leaders from Sena UBT believe that an alliance could revive their organisational presence in Mumbai, Thane and Nashik, where both parties have historically drawn significant Marathi support. The BJP, however, dismissed Raut's statement, with BJP leader Pravin Darekar likening the Sena (UBT) to 'an impatient groom who injures his knee before the wedding' and alleging that Raut feared his party's 'extinction' without MNS support. Nagaland Governor and former BJP leader L. Ganesan passes away at 80
L. Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland and former senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, passed away in Chennai on Friday (August 15, 2025) at the age of 80. He had earlier served as the Governor of Manipur and held the additional charge as the Governor of West Bengal. A bachelor, he had recently celebrated his 80th birthday in a grand manner in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin attended the event. A few days ago, Ganesan suffered a fall in the bathroom and sustained head injuries, which led to his demise. A native of Thanjavur district, Ganesan was a passionate admirer of Carnatic music and made it a point of attending the annual Thyagaraja Aradhana in Thiruvaiyaru. His association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) began in his school days, with his family being closely connected to the organisation. 'He was a government employee, working as a Revenue Settlement Inspector, before resigning to become a full-time pracharak of the RSS. He worked primarily in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and rose to become the chief organiser of the RSS during the Emergency,' said sources in the RSS. 'His role in protecting the Hindu interest in Meenakshipuram religious conversions and Mandaikkadu communal riots were well appreciated by the nationalist leaders of yesteryears. His tireless efforts to bring peace and unity among Hindus in the caste nerve centres of Tamil Nadu, such as Puliangudi and Ramanathapuram, bore fruit, leading to harmony among the people,' says the website of the Nagaland Governor's office. In 1991, he was deputed to help build the BJP in Tamil Nadu and subsequently resigned from the RSS as its deputy organising secretary to focus on the party work. He went on to serve as the general secretary and president of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit. At the national level, he held the position of BJP vice-president. He contested twice, albeit unsuccessfully, from the South Chennai Lok Sabha constituency. In 2017, Mr. Ganesan was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, following the appointment of the then MP, Najma Heptulla, as the Governor of Manipur. Mr. Ganesan also served as the editor of the BJP's Tamil organ Ore Naadu (One Nation) and was the founding president of Pottramarai ('Golden Lotus'), an organisation dedicated to promoting and supporting Tamil scholars across the globe.
