Despite Gaza Ceasefire, Israel Demolishes Residential Buildings in Western Rafah - Jordan News

Jordan News13-02-2025
On Wednesday, the Israeli army carried out demolitions of residential buildings near the entrance of Al-Saqa Street in the Tel Sultan neighborhood, west of Rafah in southern Gaza, marking yet another violation of the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect for 23 days. اضافة اعلان According to Anadolu Agency, citing eyewitnesses, Israeli forces conducted the demolitions early in the morning. Al-Saqa Street is the closest point to the Philadelphi Corridor along the border with Egypt, where Israeli forces are currently stationed. They are scheduled to begin withdrawing from the area on the 42nd day of the ceasefire, with a full withdrawal expected by the 50th day. The ceasefire agreement, which took effect on January 19, includes a phased exchange of prisoners between Hamas and Israel and allows humanitarian aid into Gaza. The agreement, brokered by Egypt and Qatar with U.S. support, consists of three phases, each lasting 42 days. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses reported that Israeli forces withdrew from eastern Al-Fukhari, east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, after four days of a limited incursion. Before pulling out, Israeli forces reportedly bulldozed Palestinian homes and lands. Earlier on Wednesday, an Israeli drone strike killed one Palestinian and critically injured another in eastern Rafah, according to a medical source cited by Anadolu Agency. On Tuesday, Gaza's Ministry of Health Director-General, Munir Al-Barsh, confirmed that Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began on January 19 have killed 92 Palestinians and injured 822 others. A Palestinian source revealed to Anadolu on Tuesday that Israel has committed 269 violations of the ceasefire's humanitarian protocol within the past 23 days. Israeli forces have continued near-daily attacks on Palestinians, either by direct gunfire or drone strikes across Gaza. These violations led Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for Hamas' military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, to announce on Monday that the scheduled release of Israeli prisoners on Saturday would be postponed until Israel fully complies with the agreement. Hamas has identified four key breaches of the ceasefire: Delays in the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza. Blocking the entry of shelter necessities, including tents, prefabricated homes, fuel, and equipment to remove rubble and recover bodies. Obstructing the entry of essential medical supplies and materials needed to repair hospitals and the healthcare sector. Direct attacks on Palestinian civilians.
Between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, Israel—backed by the United States—has carried out what has been described as a genocide in Gaza, resulting in approximately 160,000 Palestinian casualties, including the deaths of women and children, with over 14,000 people reported missing.

The move marks a shift from earlier estimates, with as many as 80,000 reservists potentially being summoned, the reports said. Syrian foreign minister meets with 'Israeli' delegation in Paris

Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Al-Shaibani, held a meeting in Paris on Tuesday with an 'Israeli' delegation to discuss regional stability and the situation in southern Syria, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported. According to diplomatic sources, the talks centered on efforts to reduce tensions, avoid interference in Syria's internal affairs, and explore potential understandings to promote stability in the region. Discussions also addressed monitoring the ceasefire in Sweida Governorate and reactivating the 1974 disengagement agreement. The meeting took place under US mediation as part of wider diplomatic initiatives aimed at strengthening security in Syria while preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Earlier this month, on August 12, Shaibani met in Amman with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack. That meeting centered on enhancing coordination among the three parties to bolster Syria's stability and security. It also concluded with an agreement to form a joint Syrian-Jordanian-American working group tasked with supporting the Syrian government's efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Sweida and pursue a comprehensive resolution to the ongoing crisis.

New details emerge behind arrest of 'Israeli' cyber official accused of child predation

Tom Artiom Alexandrovich, a senior official at 'Israel's' National Cyber Directorate, was arrested in Las Vegas after allegedly attempting to solicit a minor for sexual contact, according to local authorities. Police say Alexandrovich believed he was meeting a 15-year-old girl and brought a condom to the rendezvous, which was part of a sting operation targeting online child predators. Authorities reported that Alexandrovich engaged in online conversations with an undercover officer posing as a teenager before arranging the meeting. Police documents obtained by 8NewsNow indicate that the plan included taking the decoy to the Cirque du Soleil shows along the Las Vegas Strip. Alexandrovich, who holds the position of head of the Technological Defense Division at the INCD, told police he believed the individual he was communicating with was 18 years old. 'Alexandrovich stated he felt the girl 'pushed' him to talk about bringing a condom, yet could not remember how many times the girl 'pushed' him,' police documents said. 'Alexandrovich stated he was embarrassed for being arrested.' The US State Department confirmed Alexandrovich's arrest and said he did not claim diplomatic immunity. 'He was released by a state judge pending a court date. Any claims that the US government intervened are false,' the department wrote on X. Alexandrovich posted a USD 10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 27. Reports indicate that Alexandrovich returned to 'Israel' following his release. 'Israeli' media noted he is currently on leave from the Cyber Directorate 'by mutual decision,' while Netanyahu's office referred to him only as a 'state employee' who had been questioned by US authorities. Alexandrovich was one of eight men arrested in the operation run by Nevada's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). All suspects reportedly believed they were meeting minors when they were apprehended. Other arrests included Neal Harrison Creecy, a 46-year-old pastor from Las Vegas, who was accused of attempting to meet a 14-year-old boy. Under Nevada law, luring a minor online for sexual activity carries potential prison sentences ranging from one to 10 years.
