AP PHOTOS: BTS stars Jimin and Jung Kook discharged from military service

YEONCHEON, South Korea (AP) — Hundreds of fans gathered Wednesday to catch a glimpse of K-pop superstars Jimin and Jung Kook, the latest and final members of BTS to be discharged from South Korea's mandatory military service.
Supporters traveled from around the world to the public sports ground where the meet-and-greet took place. Color-wrapped buses bearing BTS members' faces lined the streets while red and yellow balloons floated above and a decorated food truck provided free coffee and water, adding to the festive atmosphere.
A day earlier, RM and V each saluted upon their release in Chuncheon City as about 200 fans, some of whom traveled from Mexico, Turkey and Brazil, cheered.
Jin, the oldest member of the K-pop supergroup, was discharged from the army in June 2024. J-Hope was discharged in October.
The seventh member, Suga, is fulfilling his duty as a social service agent, an alternative to military service.
The seven BTS members plan to reunite as a group sometime in 2025.
Anaesi, a fan from Portugal, displayed a colorful tattoo featuring a golden shield emblazoned with 'ARMY,' along with BTS members' names in Korean.
She said the group 'saved' her from depression. 'So for me BTS is my angel,' she said.

TikTok star Khaby Lame plays soccer in Brazil after US detention

SAO PAULO (AP) — Khaby Lame, the world's most-followed TikTok personality who left the U.S. after being detained by immigration agents, went to Brazil where he's been spending some time with friends, local authorities said Thursday. Lame is staying with AC Milan player Emerson Royal, and has been enjoying time with local fans, Paulo Eduardo Dias Junior, a city councilman from Americana, about 78 miles (125 kilometers) northwest of Sao Paulo, told The Associated Press. On Wednesday night, they played a friendly soccer match with locals. Lame left the United States after being detained on June 6 by immigration agents at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for allegedly overstaying his visa. The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was allowed to leave the country without a deportation order, according to a statement from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Junior organized Wednesday's match on behalf of the nonprofit he leads, Instituto Jr Dias. He said that Lame and Royal's participation helped collect 150 food baskets for vulnerable families. 'Emerson Royal is a role model for the children in our community, and so is Khaby, who is globally known through social media. He's a sensation among kids today,' Junior said. 'He had a lot of fun with the kids and played a lot.' The councilman said that the team that Lame and Royal were on won 3-1. Everything went smoothly, he added, except for the post-match celebration. As is tradition in Brazil, players gathered for a barbecue. But Lame preferred a parmegiana, so they took him to a local restaurant, Junior said. This is not Lame's first time in Brazil. Last year, he traveled to the country to attend Royal's wedding. Met Gala and then detention Lame arrived in the U.S. on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' an ICE spokesperson told the AP, which sent a message seeking comment Tuesday to the email address listed on Lame's Instagram account. He hasn't publicly commented on his detention. His detention and voluntary departure from the United States comes amid U.S. President Donald Trump's escalating crackdown on immigration, including raids in Los Angeles that sparked days of protests against ICE, as the president tests the bounds of his executive authority. A voluntary departure — which was granted to Lame — allows those facing removal from the U.S. to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record, which could prevent them from being allowed back into the U.S. for up to a decade. The 25-year-old Lame rose to international fame during the pandemic without ever saying a word in his videos, which would show him reacting to absurdly complicated 'life hacks.' He has more than 162 million followers on TikTok alone. The Senegal-born influencer moved to Italy when he was an infant with his working class parents and also has Italian citizenship. His internet fame quickly evolved. He signed a multiyear partnership with designer brand Hugo Boss in 2022. In January, he was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Last month, he attended the Met Gala in New York City, days after arriving in the U.S. ___ Follow AP's coverage of Latin America and the Caribbean at

Harvey Weinstein gets mistrial on rape charge after jury drama spirals out of control

Harvey Weinstein's sex crimes retrial ended with a hung jury on one count of rape in the third degree Thursday — after jurors were able to convict the former Miramax pervert on a more serious sex act. Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Curtis Farber ruled that the deadlock jury was not able to reach a unanimous verdict on whether Weinstein, 72, former actress Jessica Mann inside a Midtown hotel room in 2013. 'Sometimes jury deliberations become heated. I understand this particular deliberation was more needed than some others,' Farber told the 12-person jury, before a ruled a mistrial to the rape charge. A mistrial was declared on the third charge after the jury foreman said she was threatened. AP 'No, I'm sorry,' the juror said. Advertisement The dysfunction unfolded last week when one juror expressed that 'playground' bullying was happening during deliberations — which leaked into the next days of deliberating, with the foreperson, Juror No. 1, claiming that a fellow panelist told him, 'I would meet you outside one day.' The judge called the foreperson into the room Thursday morning and asked him if he was willing to continue deliberating after deliberations were ceased Wednesday afternoon. 'No, I'm sorry,' the juror said. Weinstein, seated in a black wheelchair, clapped three times when the juror refused to head back into deliberations. But jurors acquitted Weinstein of the same charge pertaining to the alleged rape of former Polish model Kaja Sokola, who testified that Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her at a Tribeca hotel in 2006, days shy of her 20th birthday. Weinstein was charged with rape in the third degree for allegedly sexually assaulting Mann, who sobbed on the stand while describing the rape, and seeing Weinstein's erection-inducing drug needle in the trash afterward

Tyler Perry Calls Out Hollywood Studios at BET Awards: 'This Is Not the Time to Be Silent'

Tyler Perry threw some subtle shade towards Hollywood studios at the 2025 BET Awards. Before Ledisi took the stage to perform 'BLKWMN,' the Sistas creator took time to share a short story about himself and his son walking along the beach, when his child said to him, 'I'm walking in your footsteps,' to which he responded, 'I said, 'No, let's walk together.' We walked to the end of the beach and then he looked back and he saw all the footprints that he had left.' Don't miss this,' Perry said. 'They are removing our books from libraries, they are removing our stories and our history, they are removing our names from government buildings. It's as if someone wants to erase our footprints.' The mogul added, 'But the truth of the matter, it's impossible to erase our footprints because we left them on water. What I mean by that is, we were snatched from our homeland, brought across the ocean and left footprints all the way to America.' Perry asserted that 'this is not the time to be silent, this is not the time to give up — this is the time to dig in and keep leaving footprints everywhere you go.' The Madea's Family Reunion writer then called out studios in Los Angeles. 'I can tell you this, I have made more Black millionaires, hear me when I say this, than any studio in this city combined,' he said. 'Because I'm making footprints. So I don't care if you're struggling, if you're trying to make it, you're trying to build a business, if you have a dream, keep making footprints. Don't let anybody stop you, you can do it.' Earlier in his speech, Perry also thanked Black women for supporting his work over the years. 'I think about my incredible audience who's a lot of men, a lot of women, but hear me when I tell you this, Black women have held me down and I appreciate you like you would not believe,' he added. Heading into Monday night, Kendrick Lamar topped the nomination list with 10 nods, with Doechii, Future, GloRilla, Future and Drake following close behind with six noms each. The 'Yeah Glo!' rapper, too, served as one of the night's performers alongside Lil Wayne, Teyana Taylor, Playboi Carti and Leon Thomas. Kevin Hart hosted the 2025 BET Awards at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
