The Indiana Fever will be well-represented in the much-awaited WNBA All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on July 19.
The trio of Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell got the nod for the second straight year, which would surely be a treat for the home fans. The Fever are hosting the midseason showcase for the first time.
As expected, the 23-year-old Clark, who was named one of the team captains along with Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, drafted her teammates to her squad on Tuesday. She selected Boston as the first pick, while Collier tapped Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty with her first selection.
Clark picked Mitchell from the 12 reserves.
When asked about playing in the All-Star Game for the third time, the 29-year-old Mitchell said it's important for her career and doesn't take it for granted.
'I ain't ever really had too many opportunities, so anytime I can get, I'm going to take it. Anytime I can get something like that on my resume, I'm very grateful,' said the Fever guard in a report from Indianapolis Star's Joshua Heron.
Mitchell, who re-signed with the Fever in the offseason after testing free agency for the first time, is averaging a career-high 19.3 points on 45.5% shooting from the field.
With Clark dealing with injuries this season, forcing her to miss half of their games so far, Mitchell has had to do more offensively. Same with Boston, who's putting up career-highs of 16.6 points on 59.7% accuracy from the field.
Meanwhile, if there's one person who's very happy to see the three cornerstones in the All-Star Game, it's Fever coach Stephanie White.
'Those three have been killers. They've done an outstanding job. They continue to get better. They continue to embrace the impact that they have on this organization while continuing to be hungry for more,' said White in the same report.
As of writing, it remains unclear if Clark, who's nursing a groin injury, will suit up. But multiple reports have said she's ready to return to action.

Caitlin Clark breaks own record with one-of-a-kind rookie card auction sell

Caitlin Clark continued her record-setting ways this week. As the Indiana Fever star guard continues to navigate back from a right groin injury, Clark had reason to smile on Thursday night. In the latest illustration of her superstardom, Clark reset her own off-the-court record. On Thursday, one of Clark's rookie cards sold for $660,000 on the Fanatics Collect auction site. It's by far the most ever paid for a women's sports card and it's nearly twice the amount garnered by the previous record holder, which was similarly a Clark rookie card. The new top seller is the 2024 Panini Instant Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Platinum Caitlin Clark Logowoman. It features a photo of Clark and a game-worn patch from her Fever uniform. The 1-of-1 numbered, autographed rookie card also has the written message "769 points and counting," referencing Clark's WNBA rookie record number of points scored. This record-setting card garnered 26 bids after extended bidding began at $336,000. It resets the record books after Clark's autographed 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Gold Vinyl 1/1 was auctioned by Goldin for a then-record $366,000. Before that, the record amount garnered by a women's sports card was the $266,400 paid three years ago for a signed 2003 Serena Williams card. Saints Countdown to Kickoff: Matthew Hayball is the Saints Player of Day 43

Hayball looks to become the first incumbent in the last three years to hold onto the Saints punting job There are 43 days left before the New Orleans Saints open their 2025 regular season. They'll do so at home against the Arizona Cardinals, also marking the first official game on the sidelines for new head coach Kellen Moore. Punter Matthew Hayball wears No. 43 for New Orleans, looking to enter his second year with the squad. Our Saints Player of the Day, here's a closer look at Hayball's background. Growing up in west Australia, Hayball was a midfielder in Australian rules football and was even selected in the 2015 Australian Football League draft, where he played for three years. He originally attended Florida Atlantic University in America. In three years with the Owls, he averaged 44.4 yards per punt and was honorable mention All-Conference USA twice. Hayball transferred to Vanderbilt in 2022 and would average 46.5 yards per punt in his two years with the Commodores. As a senior in 2023, Hayball was awarded 1st Team All-SEC and 2nd Team All-American accolades. While not selected in the 2024 NFL draft, Hayball was the second overall choice in the Canadian Football League global draft by the Ottawa Redblacks. Instead, he'd elect a training camp tryout with the New Orleans Saints. Hayball would beat out Saints incumbent punter and fellow Australian Lou Hedley for the job in preseason. Hayball had a gross average of 44 yards and net average of 40.4 last season. He pinned 41 of his 75 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line and had just 3 touchbacks. He'd also execute a fake punt, rushing 11 yards for a first down. Hayball led the NFL last season in punts downed inside the opposing 20. Matthew Hayball will face competition again for a roster spot, this time as the incumbent. Undrafted rookie James Burnip from Alabama, also an Australian rules football player, was signed by New Orleans after the draft. The Saints have had a different punter in each of the last three seasons.
