Best Picks Acting Editor's April favourites 2025: Oral-B, Faithfull The Brand, Kathmandu

7NEWS27-04-2025

April has been one of my favourite months so far. I've travelled, spent a lot of time outdoors (in new sneakers no less), refreshed my loungewear drawer and treated myself to some much-needed R&R.
I was lucky to nab an appointment with Pippa James, a much-loved Sydney based facialist who is one of the few people I trust with my sensitive skin.
She performed the 60 minute Sculpt and Lift treatment, using massage techniques to lift and tone to the face, draining away any excess fluid. I left feeling refreshed, lighter and more relaxed — she has magic hands.
Despite the change of season, I took a trip to Salon Her to lighten my strands. After much discussion with my incredible stylist, she transformed my dull, mousy brown locks into a gorgeous 'bronde'.
As for my splurge-worthy buys this month, I've fallen in love with a gorgeous choc dress from Faithfull the Brand, treated feet to a brand-new pair of Under Armour kicks, and updated my bathroom with the best-selling Oral-B toothbrush.
Without further ado, here are seven new and noteworthy products I've loved in April.
1. Faithfull The Brand Faroe Maxi Dress, $360 at Faithfull The Brand
I always struggle to find wedding guest-appropriate dresses, but this floral maxi from Faithfull The Brand ticked all the boxes. It's the perfect floor-grazing length (with a heel) in a satin-like material that glides across the body.
The chocolate colour is perfect for autumn, and I was pleasantly surprised that despite being a low scoop back, the tie ups kept me feeling secure and in place all night — fuller bust ladies will know the struggle.
While it's on the expensive side, it's definitely a dress I'll keep coming back to whenever there's a special event in the diary.
2. Kathmandu Feather Flight Carry-On Case, $349.98 at Kathmandu
Call me a carry-on queen, because I simply refuse to check bags in.
Even on my last trip to Asia (three countries in three weeks) I insisted that my partner and I only take carry-on to eliminate the risk of lost luggage, saving time and quite frankly — overpacking.
Weight allowance is the hardest thing to conquer, but when I heard that Kathmandu had released their lightest ever case, the Feather Flight, I knew I had to try for an upcoming two week trip to NZ.
Did it past the test? Yes. It's incredibly light (only 1.6kg), spacious and durable, and very easy to squeeze in all my essentials, including a work laptop and toiletries.
3. Under Armour UA Echo Sneakers, $230 at Under Armour
Someone recently told me that sneakers should ideally be replaced every six months, particuarly if they are being worn everyday.
Chances are the brand-new Under Armour Echo Sneakers landed on my desk at the beginning of the month, and I've been test-driving them daily ever since.
Made from an ultra light rubber outersole plus breathable mesh, the slip on design is so easy to put on before leaving the house, and my feet have never felt so supported.
They have become my go-to for walking, but given the support and extra bouncy feel, they may become my next running shoe once my current trusty Under Armour pair retire.
4. Ole Henriksen Apres Skin Multi-Use Rich Rescue Crème, $65 at Adore Beauty
While I'm so happy to wake up to crisp mornings and darker evenings (autumn is undoubtably my favourite season) I'm already feeling the effects of the winter weather on my skin.
As a dry-skin sufferer, I've had to up the ante in order to keep any patches and flakes at bay, particularly after hopping out of a hot shower.
One product that I have been generously lathering on is Ole Henriksen's new Rich Rescue Cream. It's a gorgeous, thick creamy texture that absorbs easily into the skin and can be used as an overnight cream or leave-on mask.
Jam-packed with barrier-boosting ceramides, it has the ability to visibly plump and soothe a dry or irritated complexion.
5. Saint Valentine Miro Earrings, $205 at The Iconic
During summer, I fully leaned into 'boho chic' channelling all kinds of flowing blouses, denim and long boots as a homage to Chloe.
As for accessories, I've be wearing the Miro necklace from Saint Valentine, and now the matching Miro hoop earrings are on the way, which are the perfect size for a subtle everyday statement.
Made from gold vermeil, I'm always so impressed with the quality of the Aussie made brand, always browsing the new arrivals section to find myself more hidden gems.
Retailing for just $205, these sweet hoops make the perfect gift for yourself or some special — a reminder that Mother's Day is just around the corner!
6. Uniqlo C Sweat Wide Pants, $59.90 at Uniqlo
After the viral success the Uniqlo C loungewear has received overseas, I knew I had to get my hands on a pair of the trending pants to see what the hype is all about.
Unbelievably comfortable, soft and the perfect wide, but-not-too-wide leg, you could wear them anywhere; on the plane, to the pub, running errands or just lounging around the house.
So far my favourite look is a tucked in white tee, sneakers and my trusty trench coat, the perfect 'put-together but still comfy' outfit — if I do say so myself.
When I popped into the Uniqlo store in Sydney stock was flying off the shelves, so I suggest getting your hands on the Uniqlo C set quickly before they run out of sizes.
7. Oral-B iO 7 Ultimate Electric Toothbrush, was $579 now $275
After spotting an epic deal at Amazon Australia for a best-selling model 50 per cent off, I figured it was about time to try and test a tech-savvy toothbrush.
The Ora l-B iO 7 Ultimate Electric is a trusted household name, with a clever AI brushing recognition, automatic timer and smart pressure sensor, to ensure you're cleaning your teeth in the most efficient way possible.
While my teeth have felt squeaky clean, I'm most impressed with the sleek design, quick charging and pressure sensor, which leaves me feeling assured that I'm not brushing too hard.
This best-seller is still over half price off at Amazon Australia, and worth every cent. If you're on the market for a newbie or due to replace an older model — choose this one.

Apple iOS 26 Spotlights Enhanced UI With Liquid Glass And Intelligent Features

Apple has built a reputation for its sleek, minimalist aesthetics, and its user interface (UI) design is at the front and centre of this year's Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC for short. Alongside a change in naming tradition, the Cupertino giant announced a slew of new updates and quality-of-life improvements to its software on the platform. For starters, the operating system across its family of devices now known iOS 26 – numbered based on the year after their introduction – instead of iOS 19, which some may find easier to follow. It introduces the Liquid Glass redesign, featuring a new responsive, see-through look that extends to elements like buttons, switches, sliders, text, widgets, and media controls, and various system experiences including Home Screen, notifications, and more. On the Home Screen, the size of the clock can be changed to fill more of the display, and an animation will activate when users swipe up to unlock. There's an emphasis on keeping things cleaner and more streamlined, with the Camera app hiding controls from sight, Safari lining its webpages from one edge to the other, and the tab bar floating over on-screen content. Apple's in-car navigation system, CarPlay, is part of this facelift experience, so drivers can expect a compact view for incoming calls, Activities on their dashboard, and pinned conversations in Messages. Much of the iOS 26 updates can be found in apps. A call screening tool is being added to the Phone app along with Hold Assist, which informs users when a live agent is available, while Messages allows them to create polls and customise a background image, either by adding their own photos or generate one via Image Playground. On-device spam detection is also on the way (nothing new for Android folks, though). Elsewhere, Wallet will let you create a digital ID starting this fall, with a refresh of boarding passes offering real-time flight updates in Live Activities and an indoor map for airport navigation. Other notable features include a learned or preferred route system for Maps, an online order tracker for Apple Pay, and a dedicated Games app, reinforcing the company's continued push into the gaming space with big-name titles like Assassin's Creed Shadows , Cyberpunk 2077 , and more. Apple Intelligence is also getting a handy addition in the form of Live Translation, coming to FaceTime and Messages with support for text and audio in phone calls. The real-time translation convenience extends to Apple Music, which includes a pronunciation guide for lyrics, a new AutoMix feature, and the ability to pin artists and playlists to the top of the app (Spotify says hi). Taking a page out of Google's playbook, the tech juggernaut now brings Visual Intelligence beyond the camera. Users are now able to ask ChatGPT questions about any content displayed on the screen, take a screenshot to do an image search for products on supported apps like Google and Etsy, or add an event to Calendar when the software detects a time, date, and location in a screenshot. iOS 26 marks the second major software update after the rollout of the Apple Intelligence last year. A public beta will be available in July before its official launch this fall. An exact date was not given, but it'll presumably be after the next big iPhone reveal event, typically scheduled for September.
