NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday approved an outlay of Rs 5,940 crore for a revised master plan with greater emphasis on sustainable livelihood generation for families affected by the underground fire raging in the coal mines of Jharia in Jharkhand.
The revised plan, called the Jharia Master Plan, makes a provision for a livelihood grant of Rs 1 lakh and access to credit support of up to Rs 3 lakh through an institutional credit pipeline. These will be available to both legal title holder families and non-legal title holder families.
The Jharia Master Plan, focused on fire control and rehabilitation, was first approved by the Centre in 2009 with a total cost of Rs 7,112 crore and a 10-year implementation period.
That plan expired in 2020.
As part of the livelihood support measures in the revised plan, a dedicated Jharia Alternative Livelihoods Rehabilitation Fund will be set up for promoting livelihood-related activities. Skill development initiatives will also be carried out in collaboration with multi skill development institutes operating in the region.
In addition, the plan envisages building infrastructure and essential amenities such as roads, electricity, water supply, sewerage, schools, hospitals, skill development centres, community halls, and other common facilities at the resettlement sites, the government said.

Paradip handles record 50MMT of cargo in first 7 months: Chairman

1 2 3 4 Kendrapada: Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has handled 50 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo by the end of July in the current fiscal year, the fastest in its history, said chairman P L Haranadh on Friday. The port also handled Exim (export-import) containers for the first time in 2024-25. Services by MSC and RCL, along with Concor's new multimodal logistics park, are positioning Paradip as a key container gateway in eastern India, he said. Addressing the gathering during Independence Day celebrations at Paradip, Haranadh said the port aims to expand its annual handling capacity to 500 MMT by 2047. The 'western dock' project, with a 25 MMT capacity, is ahead of schedule and will enable handling of capesize vessels, reducing logistics costs, he added. "PPA is targeting 100% mechanisation by 2030, supported by initiatives like an AI-based harbour management system, a state-of-the-art command and control centre, and a next-generation vessel traffic management and information system. PPA is working towards becoming a 'smart port' by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050," he added. "A green hydrogen/ammonia export terminal, backed by MoUs worth over Rs 50,800 crore, is under development to strengthen Paradip's role in the global green fuel supply chain. PPA has invested in welfare measures, including enhanced insurance schemes, medical benefits, and mandatory safety training for all contractual workers from Jan 2026 to prevent accidents," he said. DDA's land licensing model bags ₹10,000 cr deal with Fleur Hotels

The project is expected to generate approximately Rs 10,000 crore over a 55-year period Press Trust of India New Delhi The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has awarded the first project under its new Special License Property (SLP) initiative to Fleur Hotels, a subsidiary of Lemon Tree Hotels, officials said on Saturday. The project is expected to generate approximately Rs 10,000 crore over a 55-year period. "DDA had invited bids through a Request for Proposal (RFP) issued on May 2, 2025, for a 2-acre land parcel in Nehru Place earmarked for a five-star hotel. The bidding process, conducted on August 13, saw Fleur Hotels secure the project with an annual license fee offer of Rs 27.19 crore, about 50 per cent higher than the reserve price of Rs 18 crore," DDA said in a statement. This marks a major shift in DDA's land disposal policy. Moving away from the traditional freehold and perpetual lease models, the SLP initiative allows long-term development on an annual license basis. Reforms set into motion last year by Lt Governor VK Saxena, have yielded spectacular results in terms of revenue generation for the DDA even while facilitating the much needed developments in the capital, the statement added. According to officials, the Rs 10,000-crore revenue estimate includes annual fee escalations over the 55-year license term. "This new model is expected to significantly boost DDA's income, while facilitating key infrastructure development across hospitality, healthcare, logistics, and retail sectors," the statement added. The project awarded to Fleur Hotels will see the development of "Aurika" at Nehru Place, one of Delhi's largest luxury hotels with over 500 rooms. Lemon Tree Hotels, which operates more than 110 properties in over 75 cities, plans to bring its upscale brand experience to the Capital through this venture.
