EXCLUSIVE Love on the Spectrum star Abbey Romeo reveals how her mom keeps her grounded amid her newfound fame

Daily Mail09-05-2025
Love on the Spectrum star Abbey Romeo has opened up about how her mom has kept her grounded amid her newfound fame.
Abbey, 26, was skyrocketed into the spotlight after she starred on the Netflix series Love on the Spectrum, which follows seven adults with autism as they attempt to navigate dating.
Viewers watched on as she fell in love with David Isaacman throughout the first season of the show, and their adorable love story seemed to capture the entire world.
But battling the sudden attention as someone on the spectrum isn't easy - thankfully, Abbey has her mom, Christine, by her side.
In honor of Mother's Day, Abbey - who teamed up with Uber Eats - spoke exclusively with DailyMail.com about how her mom has helped her adjust to her sudden thrust into the public eye.
'My mom doesn't see it as fame. She says I'm an autism advocate and that I am sharing my story so we can help people,' she explained.
'We have a saying - the more you practice the easier it gets. Also she's very proud of me and reminds me of how far I've come when I get stuck in the past.'
Abbey also dished on her 'favorite memory' with her mom.
'My favorite memory of just my mom and I is when we went to Hawaii,' shared the TV star.
'My mom won a trip to Maui and we stayed in a condo by the water and I swam very far out in the ocean.
'There were also sea turtles that came up to us on the beach! We named one of them Steve and he thought I was a mermaid.'
As for her favorite meal that she and her mom have shared, Abbey dished, 'Lobster and corn on the cob because our family is from New England where people do clambakes, but I don't like clams so much. But I do eat octopus.'
The star also revealed the one gift she would get her mom for Mother's Day if she could buy her anything.
'I choose to buy her a new car like a BMW or something because her car is 11 years old and I think she should drive me around in a nicer car,' she said.
With Mother's Day quickly approaching, you might be looking for the perfect gift to get your mom.

Luke Bryan breaks silence after being hit in the FACE during shock concert moment

Country star Luke Bryan has broken his silence after he was hit in the face by a flying object during a performance at the North Dakota State Fair over the weekend. In an interview with Taste of Country, Luke, 49, said the whole crowd was having fun - but the individual who threw the object went 'too far.' 'It's the last song of the night. It was a big ole fun party, and I think one person just took it too far,' Luke told the publication, which noted the country singer sounded 'forgiving.' Luke admitted he could see himself confronting the culprit, however he doesn't necessarily believe that would be appropriate at a show where both adults and kids are present. Even calling out the person from the stage has the potential to ruin the show. 'I mean, if I saw him throw it, I could have gone right to him,' Luke said. 'I probably would have jumped right off in there. 'If I jump off in there ... there were a lot of little kids down there,' he said. 'At that point, if I'd even stopped it and pointed somebody out, it kills the vibe of the show.' According to KFYR-TV, the American Idol judge was singing his hit song Country Girl (Shake It For Me) when he was struck by a stress ball mid-performance on Saturday. A fan video shared on TikTok captured the moment Bryan paused briefly, glanced down at the ball and stared into the crowd before continuing with his set. 'Poor @Luke Bryan got hit in the face during his encore. Carried on like a champ though,' one fan wrote under the clip. Despite the unexpected interruption, Bryan maintained his composure and finished the song without missing a beat. 'There is no excuse for this,' one fan commented. Another added: 'Shame on whoever did this.' 'Who throws something at someone they paid to see?' a third asked. Others applauded Bryan's professionalism, with one viewer noting, 'Luke Bryan got hit but kept on rockin' — much respect.' Chief Deputy Larry Hubbard of the Ward County Sheriff's Office, who oversees security at the fair, confirmed to KFYR-TV that the incident involved a small plush or stress ball. While no injuries were reported, Hubbard said incidents like these are becoming more frequent. 'It is an issue, especially when they are throwing it at all, but when they're throwing it at the stage, at the artist. I think it paints the event in a bad light,' Hubbard said. He also noted that announcements are made before each concert, urging attendees not to throw objects. At this time, authorities have not identified the individual responsible, and there is no active investigation, as no complaints have been filed. Bryan joins a growing list of artists who've faced similar disruptions from audience members. In May, SZA walked out of a meet-and-greet after a fan threw a bracelet at her. In June 2023, Bebe Rexha was hit in the face with a cell phone during a New York concert, resulting in a cut above her eye that required stitches. 'There is no excuse for this,' one fan commented while another wrote: 'Shame on whoever did this' That same month, a Pink concert was interrupted when a fan tossed what was reportedly a bag of their mother's ashes onto the stage. Artists like Harry Styles, Cardi B, Lil Nas X, and Drake have also been targeted mid-performance. Previously Taylor Swift spoke out about how it 'really freaks' her out when objects are thrown on her stage. 'If it's on the stage, then a dancer could trip on it,' the Cruel Summer hitmaker told an audience in Buenos Aires during a 2023 Eras Tour show. 'I love that you brought presents and that is so nice, but just, can you please not throw them on the stage? I love you so much.' Though this latest incident ended without injury, fans and event organizers alike are calling for more accountability and respect for artists.

Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes Review – A disturbing and comprehensive look at David Berkowitz

Season 1 Episode Guide Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 Out of all the true crime series on Netflix, Conversations with a Killer is one of the most chillingly intimate. With a unique hook of letting the killers themselves speak about their crimes, alongside re-enactments of these heinous crimes, some of the worst serial killers in history walk us through their reign of terror. This time around, the spotlight falls on The Son of Sam Tapes, which shines a light on the maniacal, egotistical David Berkowitz. Shooting his victims on the street or while sitting in parked cars, Berkowitz killed six people in total and wounded seven others during his rampage, gripping the city of New York in a stranglehold of fear. Feeling like an outsider all his life, Berkowitz was one of the more dangerous and unpredictable killers because on the outside, he was just an ordinary guy. He socialized with others, fell in with a decent crowd, patriotically fought for his country, and bounced around various odd-jobs. However, as we hear from various interviews with police officers, survivors and psychologists, underneath that façade Berkowitz was a 'walking, seething cauldron of rage'. This was a man desperate to be seen; a man willing to do whatever it took to get that attention, even if it meant killing innocent people. This three part docu-series peels back the smirking, nonchalant façade of this killer to uncover the real motives and reasoning behind his multiple killings. Each episode takes the usual hook from the Conversations with a Killer series, bouncing between two timelines. The first showcases recorded interviews of Berkowitz recounting his murders while behind bars. The other, jumps back to the chronological timeline of said murders and the police investigation that was underway at the time. The first episode looks at Berkowitz's family life, including his upbringing and lead-up to the first murders, before episode 2 tightens the screw and sees the origin of the .44 calibre gun, Berkowitz's inspiration derived from Taxi Driver and the start of taunting notes to the police. Notes which sport specific references to 'Mr Monster' and 'Son of Sam'. The third episode then focuses on a big break in the case, a shocking (but thankfully botched) grand finale bloodbath Berkowitz initially had planned, and his eventual arrest. In fact one of the most shocking moments comes when the police finally do capture David Berkowitz. He turned to the police, smirked and uttered: 'well you got me, what took you so long?' However, the story itself doesn't end there, as the final 10-15 minutes of the documentary feature another victim Berkowitz missed out recounting their story. We also see random theories and ideas (including the Twelve Disciples of Hell) and word from Berkowitz himself (as recent as 2024) about how he feels regarding the murders. The show also features (especially late on) the role of mainstream media and newspapers at the time. Hearing from Jimmy Breslin's son in particular, we see some of the shocking headlines that the newspapers ran with at the time. One in particular even includes Breslin basically egging on our killer to hit again. Overall though, The Son of Sam Tapes is a pretty comprehensive breakdown of Berkowitz and his reign of terror. It's hard to grasp just how fear-struck and panicked New York was at the time of Berkowitz's killing spree, but Conversations with a Killer does a decent job of showcasing some of this within the three episodes. This is a deeply affecting and in-depth documentary, and essential viewing for anyone who wants the complete story of this serial killer.
