Outlander star to play Hercule Poirot at Glasgow theatre
The new production marks the European premiere of Ken Ludwig's adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic.
It follows sell-out tours of And Then There Were None and Murder on the Orient Express.

Mark is well-versed in theatre, with his latest credits including Dr Strangelove and Accidental Death of an Anarchist in the West End.
He has also starred in several productions for the RSC, including Cymbeline and Tamburlaine.
The thespian has also starred in popular films including Belfast, Into the Woods, Hamlet, and Frankenstein.

Mark said: "I am delighted and excited to be playing the iconic role of Hercule Poirot in the forthcoming production of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile, directed by Lucy Bailey and produced by Fiery Angel.
"I'm also thrilled that this production, adapted by Ken Ludwig, will be touring the UK and Ireland, and have no doubt that it will be enjoyed by both those who already admire Christie's genius and those yet to discover it."
The performance, produced by Fiery Angel in association with Agatha Christie Limited, follows Poirot's investigation as he tries to solve a murder on a cruise ship under the heat of the Egyptian sun.
It will be designed by Mike Britton, with lighting design by Oliver Fenwick, sound design by Mic Pool, and movement direction by Liam Steele.
Lucy Waterhouse will be the associate director, and Helena Palmer will be the casting director.
Further casting details are yet to be announced.

Quiz show guru Shaun Wallace, best known as The Dark Destroyer on ITV's The Chase also shared two video messages in support. His first saw him give an inspirational quote. He also captioned his post: "Let's hope the Lionesses get the gift of a great performance and bringing it home tonight! Make the most of everyday, every day is a gift. Have a fantastic Sunday and good luck to the Lionesses tonight." He quickly followed it up with another message, saying: "Bring it home Lionesses," with a video of him saying: "This is a special message for the England Lionesses. Good luck today girls, let's bring that trophy home." The Royal Family's official account also gave a rousing message to the squad. It shared a superb version of It's Coming Home outside of Buckingham Palace. Alongside the upload, they wrote: "Let's go girls!! Wishing the very best of luck to the @Lionesses in the Women's Euro Final this evening. And Sarah Ferguson also gave them the royal seal of approval. Getting her message in early, she said on Friday: "We're all behind you Lionesses. Best of luck tomorrow!" The occasion comes almost three years to the day since Wiegman's team changed the face of women's football in England following their defeat of Germany in the Euro 2022 final at Wembley. On that occasion Chloe Kelly's extra-time winner would pass into English football folklore. Then, a little over a year later, there was heartbreak as Spain beat the Lionesses 1-0 in the World Cup final in Sydney. The result came despite the heroics of legendary goalkeeper Mary Earps. And now England is once again getting behind the team as they bid to lift another coveted trophy.

I tried Glasgow's new rooftop bar and restaurant, my verdict
Glasgow already boasts several great spots for sipping cocktails while watching the sun set over the skyline, including the Red Sky Bar in Finnieston, House of Gods in Merchant City and Kong in the city centre - just to mention a few. And last night, I went along to the newest addition to the scene, SíSí. My friend and I were invited to have a look around ahead of the official opening on August 1. Upon arrival, we were shown to our table next to a huge window, already providing a unique angle of Glasgow below us. But the real star of the evening was the rooftop, complete with tables and comfortable chairs. The spacious area was beautifully lit up as the sun set behind us - great timing on our part. Below, we could see the People's Palace, Glasgow Green, all along Argyle Street and Central Station form a truly unique point of view. SíSí serves Mexican-American inspired sharing plates paired with craft cocktails. We ordered seven dishes between us, including the excellent guacamole with chips, scallops, crab, a beef brisket tortilla dish and my personal favourite - the flautas. This is a vegetarian meal made of a fried corn tortilla stuffed with pumpkin, kale, queso oaxaca, crema and salsa macha. It was excellent and very filling. The plates were beautifully presented, light and delicious. What impressed me mostly was how well-seasoned the food was. To drink, we tried four cocktails between us: the Cherry Paloma, the Airmail, the Trouble in Paradise and Coco Maiz. They were all great, but if I had to highlight one of them, the Cherry Paloma was the perfect amount of fruity and smoky. If I could do it all over again, I would order that and not let my friend pick it first, leaving me with only a couple of sips of goodness. We even had space for dessert, mezcal cranachan for me and churros for my dining partner. Overall, I enjoyed our time very much at SíSí, I only wish the weather had been a bit warmer and drier for the occasion. During the next heatwave, you will know where to find me.

Outlander fans flock to historic sites ahead of final season
The eighth and final season of Outlander will soon hit our screens with fans across the world braced for the end of an era. Since its debut in 2014, the blockbuster series has significantly boosted tourism, with some historic sites reporting visitor numbers soaring by more than 200%. Among the most popular destinations is Midhope Castle in the Hopetoun estate, about four kilometres west of South Queensferry. The landmark gained global fame as Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser's ancestral home. Up until a few years ago, this was farmland with next to zero visitors. Now, 80,000 tourists are expected this summer alone. STV News 'It's quite a lot of people, to say the least,' James Gourlay from Midhope Castle said. 'We used to be a farmyard, then everything changed. STV News 'Outlander is a fantastic story. People are coming here from all over the world. It's been a joy.' The castle's popularity has provided opportunities to showcase the wider Hopetoun Estate and its real-life history. 'It gave us the opportunity to tell the proper history of who worked and stayed here. It's been good fun.' Inspired by the series, photographer Daria Bilyk runs Outlander photoshoots, complete with custom-made period costumes. 'I didn't want to just have people wearing jeans and puffer jackets – I wanted to tell the story,' she added. STV News Supplied Daria has captured people of all ages and walks of life, from newlyweds and anniversary couples to people on solo adventures. 'People are in love with the show and want to romanticise their lives, living through these characters,' she said. 'But we've also had some people who haven't even watched Outlander; they just want to wear beautiful attire and have a great time, make memories, and bring these photos as souvenirs from Scotland. 'Photographs live on, and I'm a small part of it. It makes me proud to do this. It's incredible to witness.' Supplied According to a Visit Scotland survey, 36% of European visitors and 37% of long-haul visitors are inspired to visit the country due to films, TV series and books set in Scotland. While bumping into celebrities isn't guaranteed, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Outlander through its filming locations. Key locations including Blackness Castle, Doune Castle, Midhope Castle, Culross, Falkland and the Highland Folk Museum have become fan favourites. Culross Palace in Dunfermline is a main destination for fans and is now also home to a costume worn by an Outlander character inspired by a historical figure. Geillis Duncane was the name of a real woman who was tried as a witch in 1591 during the North Berwick witch trials in Scotland. The 'withdrawing room' in the palace is used as the fictional Geillis's parlour in season one. STV News STV News Tour guide Fiona Morrison said: 'Geillis is a real person who lived in the 1590s near Edinburgh. She was a servant girl, and unfortunately, she was accused of being a witch by her employer, David Seaton. She was strangled and burned. 'We always try to fit in real history. We make visitors aware that although the building was used in Outlander, it has its own fantastic history as well.' While the Outlander story might be reaching its final chapter, its legacy will likely be felt for some time yet. The National Trust for Scotland say screen tourism is now a vital part of its conservation work. Filming manager Anna Rathband: 'It's been huge – the show has helped highlight Scottish history and engage fans from all over the world. It's been fantastic to see. 'Income from filming goes directly back to the conservation of the site. There's also the legacy of film tours, which is a significant part of how we engage with our audience.
