The ‘superior' 90s chocolate bar Brits wish Cadbury would bring back
Now, the British public has spoken on the long-lost pick it wants to see return to shelves – and it's a creamy, minty treat that hasn't been seen in more than 20 years.
A beloved (former) member of the Cadbury family, the Wispa Mint first hit shelves in 1995 – and though it was discontinued back in 2003, chocolate lovers have never quite forgotten it.
Surveying 2,000 people across the UK, new research has concluded that the minty twist on the classic Wispa came out on top, as more than 1 in 5 (22%) said it was the long-lost chocolate bar they'd most like to see return.
Cadbury has been known to experiment with its Wispa bar – but it hasn't always been a smooth ride.
20 years after it first launched, in 2003, the Wispa brand was briefly discontinued and rebranded as the Dairy Milk Bubbly.
But after uproar from fans, which included a dedicated online campaign, it returned to shops permanently in 2008.
Over the years, Wispa has taken many forms, including orange, strawberry, Wispaccino, and of course, the long-reigning Gold.
In second place was Caramac, which was discontinued in 2023 after 64 years, while 1 in 5 (18%) still miss the Cadbury Dream, which was discontinued back in 2002.
Shoppers previously went wild after it was briefly spotted in B&M, but now, the only UK alternative is the Cadbury White (launched in 2019). And if you happen to find yourself in Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, the elusive Dream is still sold there.
A sweet combination of milk chocolate and white, the Cadbury Marble was selected by 16% of respondents to the Smooth Spins Casino survey, having disappeared from shelves back in 2012. In joint fourth was also the nostalgic Orange Crunchie, a tangy version of the honeycomb classic.
It's no secret that chocolate fiends have long been lusting for the Wispa Mint's return. Over on the r/CasualUK Subreddit, @Gueld recalled the sweet snack being their 'go to' chocolate back in the day – even going as far as to label it 'far superior to an Aero.'
@Loose_beef felt that Wispas in general are a 'criminally underrated' choice, while @ChrisRR called for the return of the Mint classic, labelling even the highly esteemed Wispa Gold 's*** by comparison.' Bold words.
@charlotteypants has always felt they were 'epic' – and continues to 'mourn' the loss to this day.
Meanwhile, @Yachting-Mishaps wondered whether the Wispa Mint 'needs to exist in a world that already has Mint Aero.' By way of reply, @iwasfeelingallfloopy reckons that the flavour in the Wispa was 'different (i.e. better)' and 'more of a creamy layer.'
Though Cadbury hasn't confirmed any plans to revive the Wispa Mint, there are plenty of success stories where chocolate brands have decided to give previously axed favourites another go.
First launched in 2003, White Chocolate Maltesers were a fan favourite before being discontinued in 2014. People spent more than a decade begging for their return, and in June, those prayers were finally answered as the treat returned to shelves. And, after Mars admitted that it 'made a mistake' and an online petition totalling more than 8,600 signatures, the Milky Way Crispy Rolls made a comeback earlier this year.
A milk chocolate-covered wafer biscuit finger, inside, it's filled with light whip, and has been dubbed 'god's gift' and the 'best chocolate bar ever' by doting fans.
The brand also added two new Crispy Roll flavours to the line-up, including Twix Crispy Rolls and Bounty Crispy Rolls.

TalkTV presenter and radio broadcaster James Whale dies aged 74
TalkTV host and veteran radio broadcaster James Whale has died at the age of 74. News of his death was announced by Talk TV in a statement which read: 'The staff, presenters and friends of Talk are devastated at the passing of Talk presenter and broadcasting titan, James Whale MBE, who has died aged 74 after a long battle with cancer.' In an obituary read on air by colleague and friend Mike Graham, Talk paid tribute to Whale and his outstanding contribution to radio over the last six decades, and his eight years on Talk and talkRADIO. The British presenter and media personality was originally diagnosed with kidney cancer over 20 years ago—he underwent surgery at the time. However, in August 2020, he announced that his cancer had returned and spread to other parts of his body, including his spine, brain, and lungs. Whale faced the condition for a further XXXX years before his death. After news of his death broke, tributes poured in from across the industry. Whale was born in Surrey in 1951, initially expressing an interest in archery rather than radio—his first job was as a trainee buyer at Harrods in London. While working at the upscale department store, he was inspired to become a radio DJ, following in the footsteps of Tony Blackburn, Johnnie Walker, and David 'Kid' Jensen. He began his broadcasting career in 1970, working for Radio Topshop after initially being turned down for the position, and was working for Metro Radio in the northeast by 1974. In the 1980s, he launched a TV series, named after himself, on which comedian and writer Steve Coogan would make frequent and regular appearances. Later in his career, Whale worked for LBC radio and Play Radio UK, before presenting on BBC Radio Berkshire, BBC Three Counties Radio, and BBC WM, as well as doing occasional stints on BBC Radio Kent. In 2016, he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house and finished in ninth place, later making the move to talkRadio. He was briefly suspended by the station after appearing to laugh when an interviewee described how she had been sexually assaulted. Whale had announced in spring 2024 that he didn't expect to live much longer, admitting that he had already expected to die before receiving his MBE. The host was awarded the MBE after being a popular voice on radio and TV since the 1970s, starting his career at the age of just 22. Speaking after the ceremony, which saw him recognised for services to broadcasting, he told the PA news agency: 'I didn't think I'd be here to receive this. 'But who knows? I've been terminally ill now for nearly four years. 25 years ago, I had the original cancer. So I might make the end of this year; I might not. I might be around next year.' He continued, remaining defiant: 'I think you've got to be positive. I know it's getting a bit worse than it was. You just have to go with the flow, really. You have to do that to get through it. '1 in 2 of us is going to go on this journey until they find a cure. They will find a cure.' At the time, he also gave fans hope that he might live even longer, saying he was initially told he had a year to live in 2020. 'But you have to make the most of it,' he added. 'When you're my age—and I've had a good life—you say maybe you have another year left. Four years ago, we thought we had months.' Whale had revealed in 2022 that his treatment was no longer working and that he had stopped taking steroids, which made him 'look like a balloon'. Just before Christmas that year, he said his blood transfusions weren't 'doing the trick' anymore and that he had lungs 'full of blood clots' as he shared pictures from hospital at the time. Death in Paradise's Kris Marshall reunites with co-star as he returns to role in major crossover
Death in Paradise actor Kris Marshall has been spotted on the set of BBC drama Beyond Paradise with a familiar face, who starred in the crime series with him Outlander star Colin McFarlane has been spotted on the Beyond Paradise set, sending fans into a frenzy of excitement. A photograph was enthusiastically posted on a Facebook fan group devoted to the programme. Beaming widely, the actor was photographed alongside a devoted fan, dressed in dark brown trousers and a white vest, topped with a checked shirt. A microphone could be seen clipped to Colin's vest, suggesting filming was underway. In a second picture, Colin appears with Kris Marshall, who plays lead detective Humphrey Goodman. This time, he appears seemingly in full costume, wearing a green gilet over his checked shirt while clutching what appears to be gardening gloves. Meanwhile, Kris was casually attired in a white vest, navy trousers, and brown shoes as they wandered about the filming location. The fan who shared the snap cheekily observed: "Kris in his best togs," according to the Express. While the behind-the-scenes shots thrilled viewers, some eagle-eyed supporters quickly noticed a fascinating connection—Colin had previously appeared in Death in Paradise. Colin starred in the sixth episode of Death in Paradise's fourth series, playing the character Anton Burrage, where Kris's DI Goodman and his colleagues were tasked with investigating a volleyball player's murder. Supporters on the page were quick to acknowledge the reunion, with one noting: "Looks like Selwyn's volleyball friend from Death in Paradise with him. "Mr Barrage," another chimed in.
