Watch Out ‘Mean Girls,' It Seems Oct. 3 Is Now Taylor Swift's Day

Yahoo6 hours ago
On Oct. 3, Taylor Swift asked me what day it was and I said…uhhh Mean Girls Day? Album release day?
For the past two decades, Oct. 3 has always been unofficially known as Mean Girls Day, referencing the iconic 2004 film starring Lindsay Lohan. However, Swift has decided to switch things up.

The pop superstar revealed Wednesday that her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, will also be released Oct. 3 — essentially claiming that day as her own this year. But she has a good reason.
The Grammy winners shared on a recent episode of the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason Kelce, that the album's release date, 10/3, adds up to 13, which has famously been Swift's lucky number as she was born on Dec. 13, 1989.
'[It's] never not annoying,' the 'Cruel Summer' singer joked, regarding her references to the number 13 throughout her music career. 'Always gonna try to force a 13 into the situation. And this one was right there.'
The first week of October is also special for the Kelce family — who are now close with the Swift family — because there are several family members' birthdays that month, including Travis, Jason, their mom, Donna, and Jason's daughter Wyatt.
Though Swift may have declared Oct. 3 as her day this year, Mean Girls fans have continued to keep the movie's legacy alive over the years by referencing memorable scenes, including the Oct. 3 moment.
Toward the beginning of the film, Lohan's Cady Heron tries talking to her high school crush, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett), more. In a voiceover, her character says, 'On Oct. 3, he asked me what day it was.' Cady then replies in the scene, 'It's Oct. 3.'
Lohan also recently revealed that they accidentally included a nod to the 2004 teen comedy in her new movie, Freakier Friday, which sees the actress reunite with her Freaky Friday onscreen mom, Jamie Lee Curtis.
In the sequel, Lohan's Anna and Manny Jacinto's Eric scheduled their wedding for Oct. 3. However, the actress told Collider's Perri Nemiroff, 'I genuinely don't think anyone realized' they included a Mean Girls Easter Egg until Lohan pointed it out on the first day of filming when they saw the wedding invitations.
'I was like, 'Does anyone realize this is Oct. 3? That's Mean Girls Day,'' she recalled. 'I was like, 'Let's leave it, it's an Easter egg.'' And Nisha [Ganatra, director] was like, 'We're not doing Easter eggs.' I'm like, 'Well, you did!''
Either way, there's enough room for all the Swifties and Mean Girls fans around the world to celebrate the iconic day together.

Travis Kelce Unleashed ‘Sexier' Side of Taylor Swift for New Album — Report

Taylor Swift drew attention when she unveiled the cover of her upcoming album in a striking new look. The singer showcased a series of daring outfits and shared glimpses of the project during a recent podcast appearance. Fans quickly reacted to the reveal, sparking wide discussion across social media. Here's what we know about the cover, the inspiration behind it, and the reactions it has generated online. How Travis Kelce brought 'sexier' side of Taylor Swift Travis Kelce reportedly influenced Taylor Swift's approach to her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl. According to the Daily Mail, Kelce 'treats her with so much dignity and respect,' which allowed Swift to feel secure enough to embrace a 'sexier side' in her music and visuals. A source claimed Swift had not previously expressed this aspect of herself because she 'didn't feel as safe with other men as she does with Travis.' Swift, who began dating the Kansas City Chiefs player in 2023, revealed the album cover on the New Heights podcast. It shows her in jeweled and feathered outfits, including a bra-and-briefs set, a maroon bodysuit, and a crystal dress in water. Fans praised the bold imagery. The Daily Mail reported that Kelce has been described as a 'confidence booster' to those around him. Another insider said that although Swift already 'has so much confidence in herself,' Kelce 'reiterates this to her.' The outlet added that she trusts her fans to embrace every part of her personality, though 'she won't be doing anything too explicit.' Swift explained on New Heights that the album represents 'what [she] was going through offstage' during the Eras Tour. She said, 'My day ends with me in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress. … The reason I wanted to have an offstage moment as the main album cover is because this album isn't really about what happened to me onstage.' The couple, both 35, gave rare insight into their relationship during the same podcast. Swift recalled Kelce 'truly trying to get to know me in a way that's very natural, very pure, very normal.' Kelce referred to himself as the 'luckiest guy in the world,' while Swift called him the 'good kind of crazy.' Taylor Swift Album Detail Sparks New Theory

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A new theory about Taylor Swift's upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, has gone viral online. Blogger Jordan Fairchild's take on Swift's song Cancelled has been viewed more than 1.8 million times on social media. Newsweek reached out to Fairchild via Instagram for comment on Tuesday. Why It Matters Last week, Swift announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, in a teaser video for boyfriend Travis Kelce's New Heights podcast. The 35-year-old quite literally broke the internet on Wednesday when her interview dropped on the show, which is co-hosted with Kelce's brother, Jason Kelce. During the episode, Swifties—the affectionate term given to Swift's fandom—experienced technical difficulties on YouTube when it glitched, though the streaming platform quickly resolved the issue. The Life of a Showgirl comes months after rumors were swirling that a new album may be on the way soon. Taylor Swift performs during her Eras Tour in Lisbon on May 24, 2024. ANDRE DIAS NOBRE/AFP via Getty Images What To Know On Saturday, Fairchild took to Instagram to share her thoughts on what initially appeared to be a spelling error on the album. Cancelled, which is listed as the 10th song on The Life of a Showgirl, is spelled with two 'l's rather than one, which is the British version of the word. According to Merriam-Webster, "The forms of cancel in American English are typically canceled and canceling; in British English they are cancelled and cancelling. Cancellation is the usual spelling everywhere, though cancelation is also sometimes used." Fairchild said: "Taylor Swift is a literary genius that has spelled canceled wrong. Not really. She actually spelled canceled with two 'l's because this is the British way of spelling it. In America, we spell it c-a-n-c-e-l-e-d, and this again, is spelled with two 'l's, which is the British version, so both of them are correct. We in the U.S. just use one way, and people in the U.K. use another way." "So what does that mean?" she continued. "That means that whoever this is about is a British person. So there are two people in mind that I can think of that this could be about." Fairchild was likely referring to Swift's English exes, actor Joe Alwyn and The 1975 lead singer Matty Healy. The billionaire pop star dated Alwyn from 2016 until 2023, and she was briefly with Healy in 2023. On X, Swiftie @polaroidofus_tv also noticed the Cancelled spelling. "I haven't seen anyone talk about the spelling of CANCELLED!" they wrote in a note with one million views and 10,000 likes. Another X user, @marias_playlist, said: "Taylor Swift has me second guessing how I should be spelling "cancelled/canceled." There's also a discussion on Reddit about the topic, with many Americans stating they've been spelling "canceled" with two "ls" anyway. "as an american, i've always spelled it with two 'L' soooo i didn't read much into it," /u/irunfortshirts shared in a message with 351 upvotes. What People Are Saying During Swift's New Heights episode, the 35-year-old explained her secret hints—something she's become known for over the years: "The art of the Easter egg is that there's dos and don'ts, right? Like, I'm never going to plant an Easter egg that ties back to my personal life. It's always going to be toward music … something I'm coming up with, something I have coming up, a plan I have coming together. Something that you don't know I'm saying for a specific reason that you'll hear later and you'll go back and be like, 'Oh my God.'" What Happens Next The Life of a Showgirl will be released on October 3.
