Former WWE Champion Reportedly Re-Signs—Here's Who It Could Affect

Rusev Day is seemingly coming back to WWE—or maybe it'll be Miro Day. In any case, the former U.S. Champion was released by AEW in February, and he was reportedly seen at WWE headquarters in Stamford, CT this week.
Most suspect his return is imminent, and that could mean he'll be injected into a major or mid-card storyline soon. One particular champion could lose his title and some meaningful screen time.

LA Knight has had a mostly forgettable run as the U.S. Champion, and while he may have been the right man to dethrone Logan Paul, and it was OK to see him get it back from Shinsuke Nakamura, I don't think he has elevated the title the way Gunther did with the IC title during his run.
Rusev is already a three-time U.S. Champion, and you could argue that his first reign with the title in 2014 is one of the most distinguished runs with the historic belt in the past 15 years.
He was dominant in a way that made for compelling WWE television, and it would be interesting to see if he can recapture that charisma.
If Rusev is returning as most of us believe, and he's going to be a heel—which would make sense—targeting LA Knight in a feud and winning back the title is a strong re-entry into the fray.

Knight has fallen flat since his push following an abbreviated feud with the late Bray Wyatt. His character lacks layers, and while he is a fantastic in-ring performer, he hasn't given us the memorable moments on the mic that you'd expect from a man with the catchphrase, 'let me talk to ya.'
Where Rusev or Miro goes from there in WWE is uncertain. It may depend on whether or not he can get over with the WWE Universe in his second run with the promotion. Other AEW stars like Penta have landed with WWE and experienced noteworthy success.
Rusev's real-life wife, CJ Perry aka Lana, could also return. She was a major part of his overall presentation during his prime with WWE. While the reports say Perry wasn't present at WWE headquarters, the speculation is sensible.
Both Perry and Rusev would receive a huge pop if and when they return.
It's all about the packaging and impact. If Rusev gets reintroduced with an angle and layers that resonate with fans, the 39-year-old could be a surprise hit this summer in WWE.
He may have some competition from another former WWE Superstar who is seemingly set to return. Malakai Black is also believed to have rejoined the WWE after being released by AEW in February.
Black's arrival may have already been teased with the '4' vignettes that have popped up on WWE programming. He too could have a strong summer if he makes an appearance soon.
Add to that Rey Fenix, who will be making his WWE debut on Friday Night SmackDown on April 4. There's a ton of new blood to consider, and it'll be interesting to see how Triple H and Co. work it all in.
To this point, things have gone smoothly. The Road to WrestleMania is as layered as I can remember, and the plots could get even deeper if Black, Fenix, and Rusev find their niche.
Stay tuned.

Shotzi Confirms When She Got Pulled From The 2025 Royal Rumble, Why Alexa Bliss Apologized
Shotzi thought she was in the 2025 Royal Rumble, until she wasn't. In February, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that Alexa Bliss's return to WWE at the Royal Rumble was a late decision due to contract negotiation issues. She ultimately entered the match as the 21st entrant, replacing Shotzi in the lineup. Advertisement Shotzi, now going by her 'full' name Shotzi Blackheart on the indies, confirmed that she was replaced by Bliss in the match on Unwrapped with Daria and Toni. Shotzi was asked by WWE to fly in for the event the day before, and scrambled to get to Indianapolis in time. 'I heard mixed messages. A couple producers said that I was always in the Rumble, but then they told me last minute. And then — yeah, I don't know. I was very confused by it. But, they didn't relay anything until like the day before. It was like 3 pm the day before [the Royal Rumble] and they were like, 'Hey, can you get on a flight in a couple hours?' And I'm like, 'Oh my God, i'm not ready for this!' and packed my bags,' Shotzi explained. 'I don't even know what I put in my bags, got to the airport in like an hour. And then it led to nothing.' Shotzi says she got there and thought she was in the match, and even went to rehearsals. However, Shotzi found out she'd been pulled the day of the event. 'I got told while I was in the makeup chair that I wasn't in it,' Shotzi revealed. Shotzi says Alexa Bliss came and apologized to her Shotzi said it was a tough pill to swallow. She also confirmed she was pulled because of Alexa Bliss's return in the match. Despite getting cut from the match, Shotzi still had a positive outlook and said at least it was for someone who got the 'biggest pop of the night.' Advertisement She said that Alexa had 'no idea' that she was replacing anyone and even apologized to her. 'She felt so bad and she came up to me afterwards and she was like, 'Oh my God, I'm so sorry! I didn't even realize [they were giving me someone else's spot],' Shotzi explained. Toni pointed out that WWE had to have some idea Alexa was returning. She also questioned why they would have Shotzi fly in like that. However, Daria (Sonya Deville) pointed out that Bliss' status was still very much up in the air due to contract negotiations that went to the last minute. Shotzi left WWE as a result of the company allowing her contract to expire. She will be a completely free agent this summer and is set to appear in MLW in June. The Miz Gets Candid Regarding R-Truth's WWE Release
The friendship between The Miz and R-Truth is very real. WWE Superstar The Miz was a recent guest on The Rich Eisen Show. When asked about R-Truth's contract not being renewed, Miz gave a heartfelt message when it comes to how he feels about Truth and believes we haven't seen the last of his former Awesome Truth tag team partner. Advertisement 'I've had some of my greatest moments in a ring with R-Truth,' The Miz said. 'Winning the tag team titles, standing on a ladder at WrestleMania, and literally hugging him and looking him in his eyes like, 'This moment is yours.' Because it was, we built that moment for R-Truth. 'He's an amazing talent not just inside the ring, but if you listen to any of his music on Spotify or Amazon, and you want to support him. Definitely go and get his music because it's incredible. He's an incredible human being in the locker room, not just in the ring, but what you see outside of the ring. He's a positive aura, and I don't think we've seen the last of R-Truth, Ron Killings. I think that he's an immense talent, and I think the future is bright for him.' WWE Worlds Collide 2025 results, awards, analysis: El Hijo del Vikingo, Chad Gable deliver one of WWE's best of the year
It's a big weekend for WWE, as its partnership with AAA kicked off properly with WWE Worlds Collide 2025 on Saturday inside Los Angeles' Kia Forum. The event served as a good appetizer to WWE Money In the Bank 2025. Two titles were on the line, highlighted by the AAA Mega Championship that saw the champion El Hijo del Vikingo defend against Chad Gable in a great showcase to close the event. As the only singles match on the card, it was bound to get plenty of time, especially with the big title implication. After several stunning near-falls, Gable ultimately fell short to the high-flying Vikingo's patented 630 splash. Advertisement The co-main event featured NXT North American Champion Ethan Page against three challengers in a Fatal 4-Way. Page retained in yet another highway theft type of finish, scoring the pin on Laredo Kid to overcome the odds. Je'Von Evans and Rey Fenix played critical roles that fully displayed their incredible talents. In the night's lone women's match, former NXT Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer joined forces with Lola Vice to take out Chik Tormenta and Dalys. It was largely a showcase for Vaquer, who will look to capture the women's Money In the Bank briefcase later in the night. I give Worlds Collide a crown score of: 👑 8/10. 👑 Worlds Collide Uncrowned Nightly Award Winners: MVP: Chad Gable Thanks in part to his hidden El Grande Americano gimmick (so we assume), Gable has really gotten time to shine in recent months. His match with Vikingo was as much of a reminder as the world could've asked for about how great he is. Gable is a genuine main-event talent who, if presented with a more serious persona — think "wrestling machine" Kurt Angle — would be widely regarded as one of the best on the planet. Advertisement I don't like that the Angle comparisons have gotten as far as they have, as easy as they are to make, but WWE is in too deep now, so let's embrace them to the fullest. Uncrowned Gem of the Night: Mr. Iguana Mr. Iguana was an absolute star in his match. Very clearly a silly, fun and borderline harmless gimmick, Mr. Iguana can go when the bell rings, and is just an entertaining wrestler to watch. You can only take something like what he is so far, but for what it is, it's a great time. Match of the Night: El Hijo de Vikingo vs. Chad Gable This was a foregone conclusion, and that almost felt by design. While some of the massive near-fall spots toward the end of the match were a bit too ridiculous for my liking, they were executed beautifully. The styles contrast between both men blended wonderfully and delivered one of the best WWE matches of the year. Advertisement Best Spot: Fenix's top-rope Spanish fly to Kid into an Ego's Edge from Page Take your pick between the title matches for the card's best spot. It could be any of them, but the sequence between Fenix, Kid and Page flowed so gorgeously that it deserves some extra love. If you missed Worlds Collide, definitely go back and watch the final two matches, at the very least.
