Reports of UFC Apex being turned into 10,000 seat arena are not true
Ariel Helwani shared news on Monday (Aug 11, 2025) that was sourced from Las Vegas Sports Biz which claimed UFC COO Hunter Campbell 'confirmed plans [for the Apex] to accommodate an additional 5,000 to 10,000 fans, a move that could transform the venue from a made-for-TV fight hub into a boutique arena capable of hosting select WWE PLEs, NXT specials, or cross-promotional events.'
Sounds pretty good, doesn't it? The main issue with the Apex is it's an empty warehouse that's so small the promotion kicks out fighters' families to make more room for expensive VIP ticket holders. There's no roar of a crowd, just a dead vibe and the sound of TKO executives counting all the money they saved from staying home rather than going on the road.
A move from the current configuration to what would basically be a small arena setup would change all that.
Unfortunately the story was a misunderstanding. Las Vegas Sports Biz printed a correction stating that the capacity number wasn't 10,000 but 1,000.
That's not much of an increase. The Apex just went through several months of renovations that included two blissful summer months where the venue was completely closed with no UFC events. The changes to the venue included a new ticket booth out front, a full set of concession booths, and an increase in capacity from 500 seats to … 1,000.
That means we've already experienced the new Apex over the past two weeks for UFC Vegas 108 and 109. The people who shelled out $1000+ to attend may have noticed a difference, but the product looked the same on television because they didn't raise the capacity of the venue by any noticeable amount.
The crazy thing about Apex is it doesn't have to be soulless and dead. When NXT used the venue for a wrestling show they reconfigured the venue and packed it with avid fans. The energy was there. But UFC would rather keep the capacity low to drive up the cost of tickets, billing Apex events as VIP experiences.
The way they're running it clearly makes the company money, so don't expect things to change. And definitely don't expect the venue to transform into a 10,000 seat arena any time soon.

3-time Grand Slam semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov is out of the US Open with an injured chest muscle
NEW YORK (AP) — Three-time Grand Slam semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov withdrew from the U.S. Open on Tuesday, a little more than a month after he tore a chest muscle and had to quit playing against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. That exit from the All England Club on July 7 — Dimitrov had taken the opening two sets against Sinner but got hurt in the third — marked the fifth consecutive Grand Slam tournament where the 34-year-old Dimitrov failed to complete a match. It also happened at the Australian Open in January and the French Open in May, plus last year's Wimbledon and U.S. Open. A year ago in New York, Dimitrov stopped while trailing 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 4-1 against Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. Dimitrov was a semifinalist at the U.S. Open in 2019, at the Australian Open in 2017, and at Wimbledon in 2014. His highest ranking was No. 3; he is currently No. 21. With Dimitrov out of the field, Alejandro Tabilo gets a spot in the men's singles bracket, which starts play on Aug. 24. Brandon Holt is the next player who would move into the draw if another man withdraws. Holt upset Taylor Fritz at Flushing Meadows in 2022 and his mother is two-time U.S. Open champion Tracy Austin. ___ AP tennis:

Empire State Building Lights Up in Bright Orange in Anticipation of Taylor Swift's New Album originally appeared on Parade. Fellow Swifties, it's finally happening: New music is almost here. After dropping hints involving the color orange on Monday, August 11 and a countdown to 12:12 a.m., Swift revealed that her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, is on the way with more details to come later this week. Understandably, fans have been in a tizzy ever since, and apparently, that even includes one major New York City landmark. In this video from the Empire State Building's official TikTok account, we see that the legendary skyscraper has lit up orange in anticipation of Swift's latest career move, and it is everything. Empire State Building, the color orange looks good on you! The video, which was posted on Monday, shows a very orange building set to Swift's song "...Ready for It?" as the caption confirms, "oh, we're definitely ready for it." This isn't the first time that the account for the building has shown what big fans of Swift they are. Many times in the past, they've joined in with Swifties' excitement, including posting this tribute on the singer's birthday in 2023. The Life of a Showgirl is now available for pre-preorder (yes, you read that right) on Swift's website, but so far, that's all the information she's shared about the album — the title, that is. It seems that the rest of the details, like the album cover and the release date, are coming when Swift appears on New Heights, the podcast boyfriend Travis Kelce co-hosts with brother Jason Kelce, on Wednesday night.
