Government will soon save ₹1,500 crore rent annually. Here's why
Speaking at an event at Kartavya Path hours after inaugurating Kartavya Bhavan, the first of the 10 upcoming state-of-the-art Common Central Secretariat buildings, PM Modi said that the government will rejuvenate infrastructure across the country.
The Kartavya Bhavan will be the first to break away from the old British-era buildings, from where most government administrative offices function.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the Kartavya Bhavan embodies the resolve to fulfil the nation's dreams, adding that the central government will save ₹ 1,500 cr rent annually after construction of 10 buildings of Common Central Secretariat.
The Kartavya Bhavan will host seven government departments in its building.
These include the ministries of Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, MSME, DoPT, Petroleum & Natural Gas, and the Principal Scientific Adviser's office.
The 10 CCS buildings will house all the departments of the government, according to the Centre's plans.
The plinth area of the Kartavya Bhavan-03 is 1.5 lakh square metres with a basement area of 40,000 square metres. Its parking lot can accommodate 600 cars.
The HUA ministry said the Kartavya Bhavan-03 has a creche, a yoga room, a medical room, a cafe, a kitchen, and a multipurpose hall.
It has 24 main conference rooms, each with a capacity to seat 45 people, 26 small conference rooms, each with a capacity to seat 25 people, 67 meeting rooms, and 27 lifts.
The government has plans to construct 10 buildings as part of the Common Central Secretariat (CCS) under the government's Central Vista redevelopment project.
Two CCS buildings, 1 and 2, are scheduled to be completed by next month, while construction work on CCS 10 will be finished by April next year. The project of CCS buildings 6 and 7 will be completed by October 2026.

Pakistani security forces killed 33 militants who attempted to enter the insurgency-hit southwest from neighbouring Afghanistan, the military said on Friday (August 8, 2025). The separatists demand independence from Pakistan's central government in Islamabad. Officials say the insurgency has been largely quelled, but violence continues. Currently, Pakistan's security forces are also carrying out intelligence-based operations in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where troops in April killed 54 Pakistani Taliban in what authorities described as the deadliest single-day clash for militants this year. Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant attacks, most claimed by Pakistani Taliban who are known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, and are allies of the Afghan Taliban. TTP is a separate group and has been emboldened since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Many TTP leaders and fighters have found sanctuary in Afghanistan since then.

During the June 17 phone call, Modi chastised Trump for his mediation claim, and stated that the India-Pakistan ceasefire was reached upon bilaterally, without the mediation of any third party. The Indian Prime Minister also clarified New Delhi's stance on the India-Pakistan issue, stressing that India does not need or accept any third party mediation in the matter, and the policy will continue. How Munir's lunch with Trump worsened matters? As per the report, Trump's White House lunch date with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir made matters worse, and Modi also clarified his position on Washington hosting Munir at Oval Office. PM Modi reportedly told Donald Trump that the Indian government and its leadership does have a problem with the US President meeting Pakistani government leaders, but objected to the Pakistani army chief being hosted at White House. However, Modi's concerns were brushed aside by Trump, the report said. Why PM Modi declined Trump's invite? The Trump-Modi phone call took place when the G-7 summit was underway in Canada. Trump had to leave the event because of the Iran-Israel war situation at the time, so the two leaders were unable to meet in person as the US President had left before PM Modi arrived. Later, while Modi was in Canada for the summit, Trump had asked him to visit the US and stay at the White House on his way back to India, but the India PM declined the invite, purportedly because he was apprehensive that Trump was plotting to arrange a forced meeting between him and Asim Munir. According to geopolitical analysts, these events hurt Trump's ego, which resulted in him weaponizing tariffs as a means to settle a personal vendetta against India and Modi. Trump doubles tariffs on India On Wednesday, Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing an additional 25 percent tariffs on Indian goods, raising the total levy to 50%. The US President called the additional tariffs on India as a 'punishment' for purchasing Russian oil and weapons, as he accused New Delhi of 'funding' Moscow's war on Ukraine. 'I find that the Government of India is currently directly or indirectly importing Russian Federation oil. Accordingly, and as consistent with applicable law, articles of India imported into the customs territory of the United States shall be subject to an additional ad valorem rate of duty of 25 percent,' the order reads.
