The Maggie May singer said having to take to the stage every night gives him a reason to get up in the morning and encourages him to keep fit and healthy.
Sir Rod told how he has seen many friends pass away shortly after giving up work and he doesn't want the same thing to happen to him.
He has dates lined up all over the world this year including the Legends slot at Glastonbury next month.
He said: "I enjoy going out on tour now more than I've ever done at this ripe old age of 80.
"I'm doing seven concerts in Vegas and then I am everywhere around the world.
"I'm playing Athens, Germany, three nights in Buenos Aires, two nights in Rio, it goes on and on and on.
"It keeps me fit. You have got to be fit to do it.
"I would probably die if I didn't do it. I have seen so many guys that have to give up their career and retire and they have got nothing to wake up in the morning for.
"I don't know what they do with themselves. They must get up and go 'What do I do today? Down the betting shop? Have a drink?' I don't know."
Speaking on the That Peter Crouch podcast, Sir Rod also told how he stays silent for up to 10 hours before gigs to protect his voice.

He said he indulges in his passion for model railroading while refusing to speak to anybody.
He said: "I warm up for about an hour and I warm down for about three quarters of an hour after every show.
"I also have to not talk too much. If my voice feels a little like it's not there I close down and go silent for 10 hours during the day.
"That's where the model railroading comes in handy because I take it on the road with me.
"If I have got to build a factory I have cases, paints and tools and the hotel will give me a special room to be a workshop."
Sir Rod has confirmed he will take to the stage with his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood at Glastonbury.
Earlier this week the singer, who is married to former model Penny Lancaster, said he was "absolutely flabbergasted" to be presented with a prestigious lifetime achievement award by his children.
The father-of-eight was introduced to the stage at the American Music Awards by five of his grown-up children.

Victoria Beckham's earnings from Spice Girls in just one year revealed amid family feud

The fashion designer continues to earn a pretty penny from their enduring popularity Rich Spice Victoria Beckham's earnings from Spice Girls in just one year revealed amid family feud VICTORIA Beckham is still raking in Spice Girls royalties despite last performing with them over a decade ago. Fashion designer Victoria, 51, last performed with the group at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony but continues to earn a pretty penny from their enduring popularity. Advertisement 8 Victoria Beckham is still raking in Spice Girls royalties Credit: Getty Newly-filed accounts reveal that Spice Girls Ltd made a £93,000 profit last year. As one of the five members, Victoria owns a 20% stake in the business, meaning she took home £18,600 from those profits. Despite no recent tours or performances, The Sun previously revealed Victoria has made around £1million from music-related earnings over the last 12 months. Companies House documents show that Victoria's company, Moody Productions, which she founded in 1997 to manage her music royalties, now holds £2.4 million in assets. Advertisement The filings list the income as coming from 'recoupment of music recording and publishing royalties and endorsement activities'. While Victoria's solo music attracts nearly 20,000 monthly Spotify listeners, the Spice Girls remain a streaming powerhouse, with 12.6 million fans tuning in each month. The Sun has contacted Victoria's representatives for comment. It follows reports the Hertfordshire-native left Brooklyn's wife Nicola Peltz "in tears" on her wedding day. Advertisement Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 30, first sparked rumours of a rift between them and his parents when they snubbed all of David's 50th birthday celebrations. And it was today claimed that Victoria "hijacked the first dance" at Brooklyn's Palm Beach wedding to the actress in 2022. Brooklyn Beckham takes swipe at David and Victoria amid 'family feud' as he shares tribute to wife Nicola Peltz "Marc Anthony, who is a friend of the Beckhams, offered to perform as a gift at the wedding," the source told People. "Before the song began, Marc Anthony asked Brooklyn to come to the stage, and then announced, 'The most beautiful woman in the room tonight, come on Beckham!'" Advertisement Nicola allegedly "felt that Victoria ruined her wedding, and couldn't understand why." Another source told the publication that guests were shocked when Victoria started slow dancing with her son. What should have been a special moment between the newlyweds, ended up with Victoria reportedly stealing the spotlight. They said: "It wasn't appropriate," adding that a room full of guests saw "Nicola run from the room crying." What she couldn't understand was why." Advertisement But a source who was at the wedding told The Sun that this was not the case and Victoria only danced with Brooklyn after being pulled up on stage by good friend and performer Marc. They said: "At the reception dinner there were speeches and then the happy couple took to the floor for their first dance while about 500 guests sat around and watched. "After this, Nicola had a dance with her father Nelson, which is normally when the groom would dance with his mum, but for whatever reason that didn't happen. "Much later, as a gift to the couple, Marc Anthony performed a few songs and everyone got up to dance. Advertisement "As part of this he pulled his best friends David and Victoria up on stage with him and then grabbed Brooklyn to dance with his mum and Harper danced with David, Cruz also got up with Eva Longoria as I recall. It was a fun family moment and one dance. "No-one realised in the moment that Nicola was upset as she just stormed out of the room. She returned later and the evening carried on to an afterparty with DJ. "It's all just totally baffling. "Everyone there was utterly mystified as to why Nicola would get so upset." Advertisement It comes after insiders said retired footballer David and fashion designer Victoria 'can't deal' with the situation between them and their son. The source told US Weekly: 'It's sad, really. 'David and Victoria didn't even know Brooklyn was in London. It's becoming increasingly clear how strained things are behind the scenes.' 'David and Victoria always turn up for Brooklyn and Nicola, whether it's for the launch of his hot sauce brand or her movie premiere. This is just very sad.' Advertisement The insider added: 'Brooklyn's family adores him and will always be there for him. They just can't deal with this nonsense anymore.' And the source claimed that Brooklyn decided not to meet with his parents as he's "trying to let things go right now and is giving everyone space". Over the weekend Brooklyn made his feelings very clear with a damning social media post in which he vowed to always put his wife first. He said: 'My whole world. I will love you forever. I always choose you baby.' Advertisement And fans were less than impressed. One commented: "Why do you need to do this post on social media , who are you trying to convince? There's no need to say these things publicly - odd." A second said: "What on earth forced you to choose…just miss those Beckhams together days." While at third remarked: "Remember kid, you are nothing without your parents.' 8 It comes amid her family feud with Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz Credit: Instagram Advertisement 8 They tied the knot with a lavish Palm Beach wedding in 2022 Credit: German Larkin / Vogue 8 Brooklyn and Nicola snubbed all of David's 50th birthday celebrations Credit: Instagram

Huge pop star's gig cancelled hours before taking the stage after safety scare

The last-minute announcement sparked confusion and anger among ticket holders, many of whom took to social media to voice their disappointment pop flop Huge pop star's gig cancelled hours before taking the stage after safety scare SHAKIRA'S latest gig has been cancelled over a safety scare - with just hours to go before she took to the stage. Fans eagerly awaiting her Boston, Massachusetts concert last night were left disappointed after Fenway Park officials abruptly called off the show. 2 Shakira's latest gig has been cancelled over a safety scare Credit: Getty Singer Shakira, 48, was set to perform at 7:30pm as part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which is making its way through the U.S. In a surprising move, the venue also canceled the following night's concert with country artists Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn. Fenway Park posted a brief message on social media stating: 'Refunds will be available at your point of purchase. We apologize for the inconvenience,' but did not initially explain the reason behind the cancellations. Later, Live Nation revealed the decision came after safety concerns arose during routine pre-show inspections. 'Structural elements were identified as not being up to standard, so the shows were canceled. All team members are safe.' The company confirmed in a statement to USA Today: "Structural elements were identified as not being up to standard, so the shows were canceled. All team members are safe." The last-minute announcement sparked confusion and anger among ticket holders, many of whom took to social media to voice their disappointment. One wrote on Instagram: 'How do two different shows get canceled so close to showtime?' Others felt a refund wasn't enough compensation for their disrupted plans. Someone else fumed, 'This is absolute c**p!' Shakira accidentally confirms Rihanna is 'pregnant' during live slip up on Met Gala red carpet On X, formerly Twitter, another demanded, 'And what was the reason? The show starts in 2 hours. At least put up a more elaborate explanation this is insane.' Her next show is still set to go ahead at Washington, D.C.'s Nationals Park on Saturday night. It comes just weeks after Shakira accidentally confirmed Rihanna's pregnancy on the Met Gala red carpet. The Hips Don't Lie appeared shocked and shrieked in horror when she realized she might have said too much during a live TV interview. Shakira had walked the blue carpet before her former collaborator even arrived. Due to photos of RiRi's baby bump being published before the event, some fans, including Shakira, already assumed she had confirmed her big news. However, before she was ever able to make the baby announcement on her own, Shakira made the almighty slip-up. Speaking to NBC News, Shakira said that Rihanna was the person she was 'most excited' to hang out with on fashion's biggest night. "I want to see Rihanna! I want to see her so bad. And I just heard the news too," she told the interviewer. When the reporter seemed confused as to what Shakira was referring to, she excitedly responded: "She's pregnant!" She then looked horrified as she realized that she had spoken out before Rihanna herself was even able to announce the news. The Grammy-winner put her hands up to her face and looked shocked as she confessed: "Am I not supposed to say that?" She then awkwardly laughed and walked away from the interview.
