Strictly 2025: Everything To Know About Balvinder Sopal
Soap actress Balvinder Sopal is set to join them and head to the dance floor, as she swaps Albert Square for the Argentine Tango. 'Being on Strictly is a dream that I held on to, with no proof that it would ever happen. Working on EastEnders and being a part of Strictly Come Dancing is the stuff that dreams are made of,' she said. 'I'm far too excited to put into words how I feel but I'm incredibly excited at the prospect of dancing across the ballroom!'
She revealed she has already done ballroom and Latin dancing as a 'hobby'. 'I think when you've got a passion for something, you're naturally inclined to enjoy it. I'll enjoy it but I don't know if I'll be any good,' she said.
Balvinder is an actress, who currently plays Suki Kaur Panesar-Unwin on BBC soap EastEnders.
Balvinder was born on 4 December 1978, making her 46.
Balvinder lives in Medway, Kent. 'I love where I come from. It's taken me a while to really appreciate how creatively diverse Medway and surrounding areas in Kent are. Sure, some places aren't as beautiful, affluent or full of rows of quaint little coffee shops, but it is full of heart, and it's where I grew up,' she said. 'It's where I come from.'
Balvinder is not believed to be married in real life.
Before joining EastEnders in January 2020, Balvinder has appeared on other soaps Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Doctors. Over her 20-year-long career on stage and screen, she has also been on Waterloo Road and Call The Midwife. But it's as villainous and protective matriarch Suki and the character's lesbian relationship with Eve Unwin (portrayed by Heather Peace), which fans called 'Sukeve', that she's made her name.
'I've always played downtrodden, submissive women, so to be out there and sort of the female version of Phil Mitchell, I think is great,' she said. Eve and Suki married in January, becoming the first lesbian couple to tie the knot on the show.

Strictly Come Dancing star Dani Dyer's dancing experience sparks 'fix' row
Strictly Come Dancing star Dani Dyer's dancing experience sparks 'fix' row Dani Dyer is the early favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing - but her odds could be slashed after it was revealed she has extensive dance experience Former Love Island star Dani Dyer has previously claimed to be a "qualified dancer" - a skill that could come in handy as she prepares to join the upcoming series of Strictly. The 29-year-old reality star, who is currently tipped as a favourite to win the show, has been open about her dance background, revealing she began training at the tender age of two. This revelation may raise questions about whether she holds an unfair advantage over her fellow celebrity contestants. Last year, trained dancer Tasha Ghouri faced criticism for her professional background, with some viewers labelling her participation as a 'fix'. The news comes as model Ellie Goldstein and two other celebrities have been announced for this year's line-up. The reality star and podcaster spoke of her excitement ahead of the series on The One Show (Image: BBC) Great British Bake Off judges and hosts confirmed as trailer for new series drops READ MORE: ITV This Morning stars rush to congratulate colleague after sweet baby announcement READ MORE: In her 2019 book, Dani detailed her early years attending theatre school every weekend from ages two to 14, where her knack for dancing was discovered. "It was called O'Farrell's Stage School and I was a really good little dancer," she recalled. Article continues below "I'm not a bad singer but it was the dance stuff I loved more - jazz, tap, ballet, modern. I'd get home and prance around the house.", reports the Mirror. In another section of the book, she drafts a hypothetical CV, listing under qualifications: "Qualified dancer and pretty good at singing (especially Dua Lipa or Ariana Grande at the top of her voice while cleaning the kitchen)." Last year Strictly became embroiled in controversy after signing Love Island's Tasha, 27, who possessed dance training. Actress Sarah Hadland and JLS member JB Gill faced similar accusations of having an unfair advantage due to their background experience. However, none of these contestants claimed victory, with the trophy ultimately going to Chris McCausland, the programme's first blind participant. Daughter of actor Danny Dyer, Dani says her dad has been a huge encouragement throughout her life (Image: Instagram/danidyerxx) In her memoir, Dani revealed her aspirations of gracing the BBC programme. She enthused: "If Strictly Come Dancing want to give me a call I'd also be happy to be whisked around the dance floor." At the time, Dani confessed that "the only thing I'd be worried about would be the curse" whilst she was in a relationship with Love Island co-star Jack Fincham. She also disclosed having a potential supporter on this year's series after forming a friendship with judge Shirley Ballas during a Comic Relief expedition. She described her as "just the most graceful, lovely person". Dani's entertainment journey began with disappointment, as she reveals in her bestselling memoir What Would Dani Do? My Guide to Living Your Best Life. At nine years old, she auditioned for a dancing role in the stage version of Billy Elliot - only to face rejection. However, it was her father Danny, 48, known for his roles in films including The Human Traffic and Football Factory, plus appearances in EastEnders and Rivals, who provided her initial opportunity. "It was so nerve-wracking and when I didn't get the part I was beside myself," she penned. Dani, married to footballer Jarrod Bowen, previously quipped about the Strictly curse when with ex Jack Fincham (Image: Jed Cullen/) "I cried all the way home. Mum bought me chunky chips and barbecue sauce to cheer me up, and I ate them with a plastic fork out of the container. "Neither she nor my dad wanted me going for auditions for a few years after that. Dad clearly saw something in me though, because a few years later he asked me to play a part in a film he was doing called Vendetta. "It was a bit random and out of the blue because I was at college (I studied musical theatre for a year but then dropped out) and he rang me up the day before filming to say that the actress who had been due to play the part had pulled out – she was meant to do a scene where she's dragged out of a car, but she'd found out she was pregnant so now didn't want to do it. "So, Dad said it was mine if I wanted it. 'Babe, I don't know if you fancy it but I've got this little role at the beginning of my film Vendetta?' Obviously, I did!" Dani then went on to win Love Island in 2018 with Jack Fincham. They split six months later. In May Dani married West Ham footballer Jarrod Bowen, 28, in a lavish ceremony. The pair have twins Summer and Sky, two. Dani has son Santiago, four, from a previous relationship. Dani is the 4/1 favourite to lift the Glitterball Trophy of the nine celebrities to be announced. YouTuber George Clarke is the second-favourite at 6/1. Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes stated: "Dani Dyer is the current pick of this year's Strictly pack, but with contestants still to be announced, we could soon see someone waltz past her to the head of the betting." Article continues below Strictly is due to make its comeback on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this September.
