Rupha Ramani also dives into the controversy surrounding uncertainty over Australian cricketers' availability, supported by Cricket Australia, and how this might strain Indo-Australian cricket relations.
Also on the show, a fresh twist has emerged in Virat Kohli's retirement decision. His childhood mentor and Delhi Ranji coach say Kohli was looking forward to playing the England series. What changed for the former India captain? And Shahid Afridi is once again in trouble. The former Pakistani captain led a victory rally in Karachi in the midst of deteriorating India-Pakistan relations. What are the implications of these actions?

RCB ‘invited the whole world' without permission, Karnataka govt tells HC after Bengaluru stampede

The Karnataka government on Wednesday laid the blame for the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), stating that no formal permission had been sought for the June 4 victory event that left 11 people dead, India Today reported. According to the report, during a hearing before the Karnataka High Court, Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty, representing the state, said the event had been publicised irresponsibly by RCB on social media. (Also Read: Bengaluru stampede: CID withdraws custody plea for RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosale and others) He told the court that despite not obtaining clearance, the organisers went ahead and 'invited the whole world.' The High Court was hearing petitions filed by four individuals, including RCB's marketing head Nikhil Sosale, who have challenged their arrest in connection with the incident. The matter is being heard by Justice SR Krishna Kumar. 'Shetty, while laying out a series of allegations against RCB and its partners, told the bench that the franchise did not apply for the mandatory permissions to hold the public celebration,' India Today report added. The state also held the BCCI accountable, arguing that the cricket board had an agreement with RCB to handle key responsibilities such as security, gate and ticket management. Further, the government told the court that no official permissions were granted either for the victory parade or for the celebratory ceremony that followed. Referring to communication received on June 3, just an hour before the IPL final, Shetty argued that it was a mere intimation, not a formal request. He further added that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had only sent an intimation letter, and not a proper application seeking event permission. 'Various entertainment programmes were also planned without approval,' he said. The stampede at the stadium, which hosted a victory celebration after RCB's women's team won the WPL 2024 title, has triggered widespread criticism of the organisers and calls for accountability. WTC Final: South Africa Opt To Bowl First Against Australia Under Overcast Sky

Last Updated: Australia captain Pat Cummins has no qualms batting first in the ICC World Test Championship final. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first against Australia in the World Test Championship final at Lord's on Wednesday. The overcast conditions in London were expected to favour South Africa's fast bowlers, with reigning champions Australia also fielding a formidable pace attack. Australia's Marnus Labuschagne is set to open for the first time in his Test career, immediately stepping into the action. 'We'll have a bowl first," Bavuma said at the toss. 'The surface looks good, with solid overhead conditions. I'm happy. It's too late now for any changes. We've selected the best team for these conditions. It's a massive occasion. I think all of us have some sort of allegiance to Lord's. It should be a spectacular game." Australia captain Pat Cummins expressed contentment with batting first. 'There are a few clouds, but that's not unusual for England," he said. 'It's dry and might turn later in the match. I don't think there's any extra pressure as defending champions. We've been here before and won it. This week is about enjoying it." Both teams announced their line-ups on Tuesday. Allrounder Beau Webster retains his position at number six in the Australian team, with the experienced Josh Hazlewood preferred over Scott Boland in the pace attack. South Africa named allrounder Wiaan Mulder at number three and selected Lungi Ngidi over Dane Paterson, despite Paterson's familiarity with Lord's conditions from playing for Middlesex this season. South Africa aims to win their first major trophy since lifting the ICC Knockout, the predecessor to the Champions Trophy, in 1998. The top-ranked Australians, who defeated India in the 2023 WTC final, have multiple white-ball trophies to their name. With AFP Inputs First Published:

Virat Kohli's aura and chirping will be a big miss for India at slips: Ollie Pope

Star England batter Ollie Pope feels India will miss Virat Kohli's aura and his chirping standing in the slips in the upcoming Test series against England. India and England are set to lock horns in a five-match series beginning from June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. Ahead of the all-important rubber, senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements, leaving massive holes to fill in the Indian Ollie Pope commented on the absence of the senior duo, mentioning Indian cricket's depth and said that they have enough players to fill in the shoes. However, Pope also stated that India will miss Virat Kohli's intimidating presence on the field as he was always in the face of the Final 2025 SA vs AUS Live "It's a young team, but these Indian players they have got so much depth and talent. So they've got a lot of young guys coming through; a lot of good players. Shubman Gill, their new captain, is a fantastic player. They will miss the aura of Virat Kohli standing at slips and chirping away. But they have got some good talent, so they will feel confident. But our players are ready for it," Pope said during an interaction with talkSPORT Pope also stated that it's going to be great challenge to face a quality team like India, which will serve as a good preparation for the Ashes later this year."It's a great time for us to play India. Last summer, we had the West Indies and Sri Lanka, but with India coming over, the level of quality that they will bring is a great way for us to focus on that and not look ahead. So yeah, for us, it's the perfect time to play India, and then once the Ashes come around, it will be exciting," Pope upcoming series will be the first assignment for the new captain Shubman Gill and vice captain Rishabh Pant. India haven't won a series in England since 2007 and will be up against Ben Stokes' men, who recently climbed to second spot in the ICC Test rankings.
