Jasprit Bumrahs Historic Streak Ends After 47 Tests As India Struggles In Manchester

India.com2 days ago
India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah saw one of the most remarkable streaks of his Test career come to an end during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. For the first time in 47 Tests, Bumrah conceded over 100 runs in a single innings, finishing with figures of 2/112 from 33 overs as England posted a monumental total of 669 runs in their first innings.
A Rare Off Day for India's Spearhead
Bumrah, who has been India's most consistent wicket-taker in the longest format, has built a reputation for relentless accuracy and control. Before this match, the 31-year-old had never allowed 100 or more runs in a Test innings, a record unmatched by any Indian fast bowler in the modern era.
England's aggressive batting approach, led by Ben Stokes' masterful 141, broke that streak. Bumrah's economy rate crept over three runs per over as the English batters counter-attacked effectively, forcing him to bowl long spells in testing conditions.
India's Bowling Struggles
India's bowlers, including Bumrah, endured a torrid time as England piled up runs relentlessly. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja also went for plenty as Stokes, Ollie Pope, and Zak Crawley powered England to a commanding first-innings lead of 311 runs. Bumrah did achieve a personal milestone during the innings by equalling Ishant Sharma's record of 51 Test wickets in England, becoming only the third Asian bowler after Wasim Akram and Ishant to reach the milestone.
What Lies Ahead?
Shubman Gill and KL Rahul put on an unbroken 174-run stand after India collapsed to 0/2, taking the team to 174/2 at stumps. Rahul's composed 87* off 172 balls and Gill's fluent strokeplay marked India's highest-ever partnership after such a start, cutting England's lead to 137 runs and displaying remarkable resilience against a challenging English attack.
India will resume Day 5 at 174/2, still trailing by 137 runs but with hopes of salvaging a draw or even pushing for an improbable victory if their middle order steps up. England, on the other hand, will be desperate for early breakthroughs to seal the series.

Decathlon targets India sourcing worth $3 billion by 2030

Decathlon, a French sports retailer brand, on Tuesday (July 29, 2025), said it has a strategic target to scale its local sourcing from India to $3 billion by 2030. Currently, India accounts for 8% of Decathlon's global sourcing quantities, with a goal to scale this to 15% by 2030, according to the company. This growth would be driven by a focused push in high-potential categories such as footwear, fitness equipment, and technical textiles — designed to meet the evolving demands of both Indian consumers and global markets, said Decathlon whose operations turned 25 years in India. Addressing a media conference, Sankar Chatterjee, chief executive officer, Decathlon India, said, over the last 25 years, Decathlon's production journey in India has been the backbone of the brand's success in the country. Over 70% of the quantities sold by Decathlon in India in 2025 will be made in India. This figure is expected to rise to 90% by 2030, reinforcing the brand's focus on its local sourcing strategy. The brand's local production ecosystem includes a Design Centre, which is supported by 113 manufacturing sites, 83 suppliers, and 7 production offices across India. 'Today, we're able to offer a diverse and growing portfolio of categories, made in India that meet the evolving needs of Indian sport users,'' he said, adding, as the brand continued to strengthen its footprint across offline and omni-channel platforms, production excellence remained at the heart of Decathlon's strategy. As part of its growth journey, Decathlon was working to create more than 3,00,000 new direct and indirect jobs in the country across its production ecosystem. The brand would also deepen its focus on culturally rooted sports like yoga and cricket, with the latter entirely conceptualised and manufactured in India. Decathlon currently operates 132 stores across 55 cities in India and it plans to expand its retail footprint to over 90 cities by 2030.

DP World India championship

The $4 million DP World India championship will be the biggest golf event in the country and Raj Khosla, president, Delhi Golf Club (DGC), assured it would be 'the best'. Khosla was delighted that multiple Major champion Rory McIlroy and company would compete in the heart of Delhi amidst the historic setting of heritage, when the event is staged from October 16 to 19. 'It is not just the club, but it is the country's pride at stake. Already, experts have made several visits from Europe to ensure that every aspect is addressed, particularly the preparation of the grass. They want it to be at its pristine best during the event and are advising us on everything leading up to the event. It is technology and knowledge transfer for us,' said Khosla as he took time to discuss golf from his hectic schedule as the founder and Managing Director of MyMoneyMantra.. Stressing that logistics were being worked out, as to whether to have tickets, or allow free entry for all, and decide how many fans can be at the venue at a time, ensuring safety and security for all, Khosla said Indian golf would benefit in a big way from the event. Assuring that golf in the country had evolved nicely over the years, Khosla said that the club was doing its bit in every way, supporting junior players, grooming talent and helping the under-privileged to play the game. He was particularly appreciative of the splendid work done by Arjuna awardee Amit Luthra, through his Foundation, in guiding youngsters from the rural areas to play golf. 'You don't have to be a member of the club to play golf. You just pay the green fee, and you can play,' said Khosla, even as he pointed out that the club had supported the young Shubham Jaglan's golf to the extent of helping him get his education in USA. 'We support women's golf, we give mini kits to the kids. You keep doing all the right things to nurture the ecosystem, and you will have a champion emerge,' he said. Indian golf may not have many exciting talent, and Khosla stressed that the golfing community just needs to stay focused on the process and the results would emerge. 'We are a step or two behind the world, in terms of using technology for training. There is so much of analysis available for improvement and correction of the flow of the swing. We will get there soon,' he said. Appreciating the government for the whole hearted support for sports, the DGC president insisted that the big event in October would inspire the Indian golf community to get to the next level in every way.
