Auburn vs Alabama: Game preview, prediction, betting odds for Saturday Who has the edge in Saturday's top-10 clash in Neville Arena?
It is gameday for the No. 1 Auburn Tigers as they prepare to host No. 8 Alabama for the final regular season contest ahead of next week's SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.
The second edition of the 'Iron Bowl of Basketball' will tip-off at 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN live from Neville Arena in Auburn. Auburn won the first battle with its arch-rival on Feb. 15 at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa behind a strong defensive effort that limited the Crimson Tide's top SEC offense to 85 points on 39% shooting. Auburn's defense also held Alabama to five made three-pointers on 26 attempts. National Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome scored 19 points in the game with 14 rebounds while Miles Kelly logged 15 points and eight rebounds.
Auburn appears to be the more confident team heading into the matchup despite dropping its most recent game to Texas A&M on the road, 83-72. The Tigers are 4-1 since their win in Tuscaloosa, with wins over NCAA tournament hopefuls Ole Miss and Kentucky during that stretch. The Crimson Tide is 2-3 with losses to Florida, Tennessee, and Missouri since falling to Auburn on their home floor.
Saturday's game will feature Alabama, who owns the best offense in the SEC, scoring 91.1 points per game. However, the Tide allows opponents to score 80.7 points per game, which ranks No. 16 among SEC squads. Auburn ranks in the top five in each category: No. 3 in offense (85.0 points per game) and No. 5 in defense (69.2 points per game).
Who has the edge on Saturday? Here are the final betting odds ahead of Saturday's game between No. 1 Auburn and No. 8 Alabama.

Auburn vs Alabama prediction, pick:
Auburn basketball will look to bounce back following a tough loss to No. 21 Texas A&M on Tuesday. The Tigers will have starting point guard Denver Jones back for this game following the ankle injury he sustained in Auburn's win over Kentucky one week ago. Jones' 10.7 point-per-game production, plus his solid defensive game, will provide enough cushion for other stars such as Johni Broome and Chad Baker-Mazara to play at a high level.
Jones' return, plus playing a rivalry game in front of the home crowd at Neville Arena, should be enough for Auburn to close the regular season in style.
Prediction: Auburn 91 Alabama 85

Texas A&M senior Edge is using his All-SEC team snub as 'fuel to the fire' this season

Texas A&M's 2025 pass rush will more than likely be led by senior edge Cashius Howell, who returned for his final collegiate season after defensive linemen Nic Scourton, Shemar Turner and Shemar Stewart departed for the NFL, leaving the former Bowling Green standout as one of the best players on the roster. However, Howell, who recorded four sacks and seven pass deflections in a rotational role last season, has been snubbed by several preseason watch lists. After Wednesday's sixth and first padded preseason practice, Howell spoke to the media members in attendance, and was asked about one of the more significant preseason snubs after he was left off the the preseason All-SEC team, which included running back Le'Veon Moss (first team) offensive linemen Ar'maj Reed-Adams, Trey Zuhn III and Chase Bisontis named to the second team. At the same time, cornerback Will Lee III and linebacker Taurean York were named to the third team on defense. While York has certainly done enough on the field to garner first or second team honors, the fact that Howell wasn't even considered a third team defensive linemen was quite surprising, esepecially after finishing the year as the team's top rated pass rusher per Pro Football Focus. However, Howell is taking the high road, and, just like his low recruiting ranking, the Missouri native isn't worried about the national perception. 'You're talking to a guy who was once rated 2,000th best player in my class. I'm used to not getting picked and overlooked so it just adds fuel to the fire for me.' At 6'4" and over 250 pounds, coach Mike Elko taking over as the program's defensive play caller is good news for Howell, who will be in perfect postion to rush the passer and eliminate stretch runs, capitalizing on his impressive play at the end of the 2024 campaign. New Texas A&M TE expected to bring 'an awful lot of value' to the 2025 roster

Texas A&M's 2025 tight end rotation will now include former Alabama and Texas junior Amari Niblack, who, outside of a forgettable 2024 season with the Longhorns, looked like an ascending receiving threat for former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe during his 2023 freshman season. Standing at 6'4" and nearly 250 pounds, Niblack is an elite athlete who should rebound in OC Collin Klein's system. Niblack's impressive speed at his size is similar to that of Texas A&M's freshman wide receiver Jerome Myles, who has reportedly been turning heads this offseason after recovering from a knee injury during his final high school season in 2024. This week, during Texas A&M's appearance at the annual SEC media days, head coach Mike Elko was asked about Niblack's addition to the roster, which has been nationally underrated after reeling in just five receptions for 33 yards with the Longhorns. Wasting players' skill sets is harmful to their future playing prospects, and while Texas HC Steve Sarkisian attempted to turn him into a full-time blocking tight end, Niblack is a hybrid receiver who needs to be utilized in the seam and find openings against zone coverage to provide quarterback Marcel Reed with another target in the passing game. Elko agrees, stating that Niblack will finally be utilized as a hybrid option in Collin Klein's offense. "Amari Niblack is an interesting one because he had spent time with coach Holmon Wiggins at Alabama." "We feel like he's a hybrid kid that adds an awful lot of value with what he can do in the receiving game." The Holmon Wiggins connection is also key, as it is likely that the scheme Alabama ran during the 2023 season has been studied to help let Niblack loose this coming season. Niblack does stand out among the rest of the 2025 tight end rotation, which includes Theo Melin Öhrström, transfer Nate Boerkircher, and Micah Riley, who are primarily blockers. Everything Texas A&M's OC Collin Klein, DC Jay Bateman said after fifth preseason practice

With Texas A&M's first five fall camp practice sessions officially completed, offensive coordinator Collin Klein and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman appeared in front of the media on Tuesday. Klein joined head coach Mike Elko's staff in January 2024 as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, following two seasons in the same roles for the Kansas State Wildcats. Since Klein was given the task of leading the Maroon and White offensive unit, he has made an immediate splash. In the Aggies' 2024 efforts, he helped coach Texas A&M's offense to a 5-0 start in the Southeastern Conference, marking the best start in league play and the best overall start against conference competition since 1998. The Loveland, Colorado, native led the Aggies to become the No. 2 rushing offense in the country, while also holding the No. 10 offensive line in the country. Every member of last year's starting offensive line will return under Klein's offense this season, which will be an integral factor in the success of dual-threat quarterback Marcel Reed, who returns to Bryan-College Station, Texas, for his sophomore season. Texas A&M's defensive unit is led by Bateman, who also arrived in College Station last January. He spent two seasons at Florida as the inside linebackers coach and three seasons at North Carolina as the defensive coordinator. In his first year leading the Aggie defense, Bateman helped coach the unit to become top-35 nationally in tackles-for-loss (92.0) and scoring defense (22.2 p/g), while also ranking top-three in the SEC with 16 interceptions and 75 passes defended. Both Klein and Bateman have established their mark in just one season with Texas A&M, but the ending to last season for both units left much to be desired heading into the second year with Elko at the helm. As fall camp continues, here is everything that the Aggie coordinators said following the fifth practice, according to TexAgs: Klein on last year's contest against LSU "In relation to that particular evening, it was a lot of different things coming together at one time. We were spinning a little bit and needed a spark... Looking at Marcel (Reed's) work throughout the season, we're going to be a lot more balanced outfit." Klein talks about offensive unit progression "Another year in the system, continuity working together, growth has been fun to watch across the board, and I think the entire unit is in a better place." Klein speaks on Reed's improvement "Eye discipline, progression discipline. As our passing game continues to grow and we continue to develop it, there are a lot of pieces and a lot of components that have to come together." Klein discusses OL Mark Nabou Jr.'s camp so far "Mark (Nabou Jr.) has done a great job. He has had a great camp, even in the first five practices. You can tell his strength levels and comfort levels are much better." Klein on offensive line depth ""Being able to have that flexibility, heaven forbid if somebody does get hurt, you can move people around. Having guys with that level of experience and that level of depth is going to be huge for us." Klein talks about potential personnel packages "That's a year-to-year question. Last year, at times, we were thin in certain spots and certain personnel groups. It was all that off. We were 33 percent 12 personnel as opposed to 38 percent the year before as a coordinator... We're going to be multiple, but at the end of the day, it's about who are the best guys packaged together to help us win. We will be able to take steps and do more of that because our capacity has grown. All of our players at every position group has taken it upon themselves to elevate their understanding of the game of football... It allows us to use more of the offense." Klein speaks more on Reed's development "Really excited about the growth and the steps that he has taken. As a young player, and I remember it myself, you don't know what you don't know. Now he knows. After you've been through it, you know how to prepare yourself so much better. He has taken advantage of that. He comes from a football family and has been around it his whole life. He has a love for the game and a passion for the game... The Lord has blessed him with some really good physical tools, and that's a good combination." Klein discusses improving the WR room "Our strength staff, Coach Moffitt and his entire crew, have done a great job of preparing those guys. From a speed standpoint, a change-of-direction standpoint in practice, there have been gains. All of those have improved over the last four to six months." Klein on backup QB competition "It's a good group. Been very, very pleased with Miles (O'Neill). He finished the spring strong. He has had a good summer. He's really, really attacking it. Jacob Zeno has come in and is understanding the offense a little better... Brady Hart has done a really nice job coming in early and has made some really nice throws early. It's going to be really, really competitive the whole day." Klein talks about RB Le'Veon Moss returning "It's a great thing. He's an unbelievable young man. Watching him and how he has attacked the rehab and been able to stay positive and encouraging to his teammates throughout the process was really encouraging. It has been a positive for him and our team." Klein speaks about receiving backs "It's good that it's a hard question to answer because there are a few that have really good hands coming out of the backfield. I don't have a problem with throwing the football to any of them... I'm not afraid to throw it to any of them." Klein on depth in the WR room "I tell the guys that the most important thing is what does the team need to be successful? Yeah, we're trying to get touches to everybody, but at the end of the day, what does the team need to win?" Klein talks about offensive improvements "The timing, sequencing of some of our pass-game concepts will be better. Experience at quarterback will be better. Team speed will be big." Bateman on the defensive line "We did miss some opportunities. There were some times toward the middle of the season, toward the end of the season, that you had to manage the defensive line in certain ways that minimized their abilities to rush the passer. ... We feel better about the coverage, and that will allow those kids to rush the passer more." Bateman and the team's belief in Reed "The team believes in Marcel (Reed). Our kids have a lot of faith in him. As a coach, the decision-making... It's faster decisions. He's hard to defend. He runs like a running back. He throws like a really good quarterback." Bateman on the strength and conditioning of defense "The job Tommy (Moffitt) and his group have done with our kids has been really special." Bateman discusses Marcus Ratcliffe "He had a good first year, and now you look at him physically, and it's like, 'Wow.' It's going to allow him to do more in our defense. We have some pretty cool things he can do that's going to help us a lot." Who's impressed Bateman? "The kid at linebacker that has impressed all of us so far is Jordan Lockhart... He has a really bright future." Bateman talks about always improving "If Taurean (York) and Scooby (Williams) were standing right here, they would never say they're good enough at anything... We're always trying to improve at everything." Bateman on the disappointing conclusion in 2024 "Our young men have done a great job acknowledging that we didn't do some things very well, and coaches, too. The communication is better. The pre-snap communication and pre-snap adjustments are better. The overall knowledge base has improved a ton." Bateman discusses Marco Jones ""He is a super talented kid. That was pretty obvious. Recruiting him was a knife fight. Every day, he gets better. Every day, he improves... The future is really, really bright. I think he's going to play and contribute this year. How much it is, we'll see." Bateman talks about Tyreek Chappell "Tyreek (Chappell) is a tremendous football player. He's smart. He does a lot. He could easily go play corner. Losing him last year was a blow to us." Bateman on Aggie secondary "We've created a lot of competition over there. They know they have to come every day and bring it, or they'll get passed up." Bateman discusses defensive depth "I feel way better about our depth right now. I feel way better about the younger kids coming along. In that back five, there has been definite improvement." Bateman talks about Elko's role "I don't think it has changed a lot, to be honest with you. Mike was involved a lot last year. He's involved a ton now. From a practice standpoint, it hasn't changed a whole lot. In games, I think it will change more." Bateman discusses the D-line "The three young D-tackles are going to be really good players. We're very comfortable with those four kids. The three veterans are guys that we trust and believe in, and they're really good players."
