Student duo involved in KK anti-graft rally held under Sedition Act
It is learnt that Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) student group leaders Muhamad Fadhil Muhamad Kasim and Aliff Danial Badrul Akmal Hisham were detained when they arrived at the police headquarters in Kepayan on Tuesday (June 24) to lodge a report about another incident.
They allege that Fadhil's car was splashed with acid on Saturday (June 21).

Another representative of the group, Qistina Qaisara Syahril Akmar, claimed that the duo were arrested without their lawyers present.
She accused the police of using excessive force when arresting them.
'We will update when we have more information,' she said.

On Saturday and Sunday (June 22), a group of protestors led by UMS students staged an overnight peaceful rally to voice their dissatisfaction over various issues, including corruption, infrastructure and water woes.
The rally started out peacefully but ended in controversy when the students burnt placards with a caricature of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday.
It is also learnt that several individuals will be called to have their statements taken, while Parti Warisan legal advisor Chin Tek Ming has been summoned to give his statement at 2pm on Tuesday.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet has decided that stern action will be taken against "irresponsible politicians" who incite public sentiment over the upside-down flag incident in Penang, reports said. According to Malaysiakini yesterday, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said the issue was specifically discussed during the Cabinet meeting on Friday. He added that he believed no one would deliberately hang the national flag upside down. It was reported that Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh recently had his statement recorded at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here on Friday over the assembly in Kepala Batas, Penang, last Thursday. His lawyer, Aizat Azam, had said that the Merlimau assemblyman had fully cooperated and answered all some 80 questions posed by the investigating officer. He had also said Dr Akmal is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 506 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Police probe TikTok account, launch disciplinary action in Zara Qairina case
THE Royal Malaysia Police has launched dual investigations into the case of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, focusing both on misinformation spread online and alleged procedural failures by officers in the initial probe of her death. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M Kumar S Muthuvelu said police are investigating TikTok account @berjuanguntukzara for uploading inaccurate and misleading content. He warned that unverified claims could confuse the public and undermine the investigation. The case is being probed under the Sedition Act 1948, Penal Code Section 505(b) for causing public fear, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of online services. Separately, Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department will open disciplinary proceedings against three Sabah police officers – a superintendent district police chief, an assistant superintendent CID head, and an inspector – for lapses in handling the case. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the officers failed in their supervisory responsibilities, including the investigating officer's omission to request a post-mortem. 'They must be held accountable. Firm action will be taken against those who failed to act or supervise properly,' he said. Zara, a Form One student at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha in Papar, was found unconscious in a drain near her hostel on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor.
