Results following One Punch Man's anime workout for 1,000 days
Li Shuangyong, 36, from China, tested the benefits of the workout for an impressive 1,000 days which involves a daily routine of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats and a 6.2-mile run.
It is inspired by the hero of Japanese manga series One Punch Man, Saitama, who becomes too strong and powerful for his own good.
In the case of Mr Shuangyong, he grew huge muscles and turned his life around after his fish farming business collapsed.
He was left in debt and his marriage had ended when he came across the series and became inspired by the challenge.
'I had to save myself. I could not keep living like that. It could not get any worse,' he told Jiupai News.
He added he wanted to 'amplify hope without limits'.
The 36-year-old embarked on the journey in August 2021, starting out with running shoes worth only $1.49 and fueled himself with mostly eggs and instant noodles.
He filmed and shared daily training videos to document his progress and eventually built up a following in China.
Fans in Taiwan even joined him on his runs through a live stream.
This led to sponsors sending him new trainers and supplements.
By last month on July 19, Mr Shuangyong completed the challenge with more than 12,400 miles and completed hundreds of thousands of reps.
He celebrated the accomplishment in a tribute to the character by shaving his head and dressing as Saitama.
This even got the attention of the One Punch Man creator, who said: 'Your willpower is incredible! Congratulations.'
He now is aiming for a Guinness world record by running a marathon every day for an entire year.

Ilona Maher weighs in on new health trend
Ilona Maher has stayed in prime physical condition as a professional athlete, with one new health trend rubbing her the wrong way, saying others have 'lost the plot' of getting in shape. Over a year ago, Maher rose to superstardom with the bronze-medal American Olympic rugby team, with her peak athleticism helping the United States get on the medal stand. One health trend she has not budged on is swapping in cottage cheese in place of ricotta, cream cheese, and sour cream in recipes to make a dish healthier. Maher discussed the trend on Kylie Kelce's 'Not Gonna Lie' podcast, that is designed to be gut-healthy and help with building muscle. Maher also added that while she eats a high-protein diet to stay in phenomenal shape, she also is on a more controversial high-carb diet. 'I have a high-protein diet, but I also have probably the highest-carb diet ever,' Maher added. 'I was raised on very high-carb diets. And carbs are really the energy that you need - that's science, truly.' 'I get protein in for most meals, but I'm actually not as committed to the bit as I maybe could be. I think I could be leaner, if I was really focusing on protein. But I just don't see - I think I'm fine.' Maher's routine paid off to become one of the American darlings from the Summer Olympics in Paris. Maher has competed for the United States national women's rugby team since 2018 and looks to have a great shot at representing America at the 2028 Summer Olympics on home turf, looking to repeat a place on the medal stand.

She was on Dancing With The Stars, is now on Love Is Blind and has a link to Jessica Simpson, who is she?
She is on the popular dating show Love Is Blind which has given her a career comeback in a big way. And the 44-year-old brunette beauty also has a link to pinup crooner Jessica Simpson who is now a country singer. Eight years ago the siren competed on Dancing With The Stars. On Sunday this looker from the Philippines posted a sizzling green bikini photo that rocked Instagram, but she was hard to recognize as she had dark cat-eyed sunglasses on. The diva has been on vacation in the tropics with her famous husband as she placed an exotic pink flower behind one of her ears while sitting on the balcony of her fancy hotel suite. Can you guess who it is? It's Nick Lachey's wife Vanessa Lachey. She is best known for being a beauty queen and for starring on MTV's show Total Request Live then did Wild On! and Wipeout. Early in her career, she popped up on That's Life, City Girls, 30 Rock, The Bold and the Beautiful, Psych, Hawaii Five-O and Maybe It's Me. In 2008, she appeared on How I Met Your Mother then was in the films Disaster Movie (2008) and then went back to TV with CSI: NY. In 2011, Lachey had a guest role on 30 Rock. In 2017 she was Dancing with the Stars, competing against her husband, Nick. Vanessa and Nick have hosted Love Is Blind since its debut in 2020. Nick, 51, a former 98 Degrees pop star, was previously married to Jessica Simpson. Nick and Vanessa wed in July 2011, after striking up a romance on the set of Nick's 2006 What's Left of Me music video. In March they opened up about their 13-year marriage in the latest issue of Brides magazine. Nick and 44-year-old former MTV VJ got candid inside the glossy, revealing how they keep their romance alive. Nick and Vanessa, who are raising a brood of three children while sharing Love Is Blind co-host duties, set aside one day each week for sex and another for logistical planning. Vanessa, whose maiden name is Minnillo, said about her husband's reaction to penciling in intimacy: 'He's like, "What, schedule a sex day?" It sounds weird when you say that, so we decided: Wednesday – hump day.' She noted about their system of scheduling two distinct days: 'I don't want the time that we have for intimacy and connection to be taken over by logistics, but that's our life. I think we're coming into an age of having to have a hump day and a logistics day.' The Lacheys also credit therapy with helping to keep their union strong. 'It's really important to have a third-person perspective that's an unbiased opinion,' the actress explained. In addition to hosting Love Is Blind, the pair also host another Netflix dating show, The Ultimatum. Vanessa noted, 'It's nice for [the contestants] to see that, yes, we've been together 19 years, married for 13, and we are seeing a therapist, and we still have problems.' Sharing how their relationship is reflected in their shows, the father-of-three mused, 'It's always been somewhat therapeutic for us to be a part of this and take a look at our own marriage and our own relationship as we go through each season.' Nick also emphasized his willingness to always work on their marriage. 'Anything that's worth having takes work. To me, that's the cornerstone of life, and marriage is no different,' the Hollywood vet said. 'There's no shame in that.' Furthermore, the lovebirds agree: 'There's no perfect person — there's just your person.' And they fully embrace the work-life balance they find while managing their professional and personal relationships. About traveling for the shows, the former singer said: 'It's a break from what we're doing any other day.' Vanessa added lightheartedly, 'We have to go to New York? And get hair and makeup? And get a hotel? And get a flight?' 'Sounds alright,' Nick said about leaving Los Angeles, where they're based. 'We'll justify a New York trip.'

Did you solve it? Are you a matcha for these tasty Japanese puzzles?
Earlier today I set you three puzzles from Tasty Japanese Morsels in Recreational Mathematics. Here they are again with solutions. 1. Squid game Two octopuses will face off in a boxing match. Each octopus requires eight gloves. (There is no distinction between left and right gloves.) The rules of octopus boxing stipulate that an octopus must only wear gloves of the same colour. There is a bag containing 16 red gloves and 16 green gloves. Find the minimum number of gloves that must be drawn at random from the bag to guarantee that the colours of the gloves of the two octopuses are (a) the same. (b) different. (c) either the same or different. Solution (a) 31 (b) 24 (c) 23 (a) If the lone glove left behind is red, both octopuses can wear green gloves. If the lone glove left behind is green, both octopuses can wear red gloves. (b) Imagine the first 16 choices are all of one colour. You will then need 8 of the other. (c) With 23 gloves, at least 7 are one colour (say red) and at least 8 are the other (say green). If there there exactly 7 red, then both octopuses can wear green. If there are more than 7 red, one can wear red and the other green. (Likewise, if at least 7 are green, and at least 8 are red, we get the same result.) 2. Sum-o wrestling. The diagram below represents a multiplication in which all but two of the digits have been replaced by stars. Reconstruct the computation. Solution Replace the stars with letters A to J. H must be 1 since F plus the carry of (D+G) must be 10 or larger. In fact, since the carry of D+E can at most be 1, it must be the case that H = 1, I = 0, and F = 9. We also know thanks to the given 1, that D + G = 11. Also, note that E = J Now to the multiplications. We know that 2 × AB = FG = ninety-somthing. So A = 4. And since C x AB = DE, we can deduce that C is 1 or 2. (If it was 3 or larger C x AB would have threedigits.) Suppose C = 1. Then AB = DE, which means that D = A = 4. However, we know G must be even, since G = 2 x B, so D + G is even, but this contradicts D + G = 11. Hence C = 2 and D = F = 9. It follows that J = E = G = 2 and B = 6. 3. Another boxing puzzle A restaurant uses 4 × 4 and 5 × 5 Bento boxes each divided into exactly eight square sections, as shown in the diagram below. The chef has asked you to create Bento boxes with rectangular boxes. Each Bento must still have eight square sections, even though, as in the example, the square sections do not have to be all of the same size. Design a 4 × 6 Bento box, a 3 × 9 Bento box, and a 5 × 6 Bento box. Solution Here's the 4 x 6 and the 3 x 9 And here's the 5 x 6 I hope you enjoyed these puzzles. I'll be back in two weeks. Arigato! Tasty Japanese Morsels in Recreational Mathematics is published by the American Mathematical Association. All the diagrams above are taken from the book. I've been setting a puzzle here on alternate Mondays since 2015. I'm always on the look-out for great puzzles. If you would like to suggest one, email me.
