IGP Khalid: Never joined any political party in 38-year career, accepts false report with ‘open heart'
PUTRAJAYA, June 23 — Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail today reportedly denied joining any political party throughout his 38-year career in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
According to a report in The Star, Khalid said the news organisation that had erroneously reported he was part of PKR had requested to meet him, and that he would do so 'soon'.
'I accept what happened with an open heart,' he was quoted as saying.
On Saturday, PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh issued a statement saying Khalid had never been a member of the party or held any position within it, and warned that such false claims could undermine his credibility.
The report wrongly linking him to the party was published by a newspaper last Friday.
Khalid, who is from Manong, Perak, joined PDRM in 1987. He served as police attaché at the Malaysian High Commission in London from 2014 to 2018, before returning to lead the Pahang Special Branch.
In 2023, he was appointed director of the Special Branch at Bukit Aman, a position he held until his recent promotion to IGP.

High Court grants stay on £132 million asset freeze for widow of late Daim Zainuddin, pending further hearings
KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — The High Court today allowed an application by Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, the widow of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, for a stay of its ex-parte order to freeze assets belonging to her and her family worth £132 million in London by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). The assets comprise two commercial buildings located at St Mary Axe and One Crown Court; three luxury residences at Bryanston Square, Bryanston Mews and Lancaster Gate; two residential units in Gloucester Place; and a bank account at CAF Bank Limited (UK), allegedly held under The Ilham Foundation. Judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid granted the stay after allowing Na'imah's application, who was represented by counsel Datuk Dr Gurdial Singh Nijar. The court fixed July 9 to hear Na'imah's application to intervene in the main proceedings relating to the freezing of the assets. On June 3, the same court had allowed the MACC's ex-parte application to freeze the said assets under Section 53 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001). In a separate High Court today, Judge K. Muniandy fixed August 1 to hear Na'imah's application to intervene in MACC's separate ex-parte application to freeze 12 investment accounts in Singapore, allegedly owned by Na'imah, her family and associates, with a total value over RM544 million. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Nur Iman Wan Mohd Afzal requested the court to allow MACC's ex-parte application to freeze the said assets, following findings that the assets had not been declared. 'The total value of these movable assets exceeds RM544 million, consisting of investments in USD and pound sterling. Therefore, we request that this application be heard, and these assets be frozen to prevent the risk of disposal,' she said. On May 22, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said eight investigation papers were opened based on new information received from external agencies regarding the assets owned by Daim, his family and proxies. Azalina: All Umno divisions entitled to propose motions, but no formal request yet on Hishammuddin's suspension
SHAH ALAM, June 23 — All Umno divisions are entitled to submit their own motions and express their views, including on the matter of the withdrawal of Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein's membership suspension. According to Berita Harian (BH), the matter was clarified by Umno Malaysia's Information Chief, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. However, she stressed that the Umno Supreme Leadership has not yet received any formal motion on the issue, despite reports suggesting that the Sembrong Umno Division had raised it. 'All Umno divisions can make motions or requests. There's no issue with that. It's their right. But in my view, Umno, like other political parties, has its own way of doing things,' she said. 'As of now, I have not seen any application (regarding the motion to withdraw Hishammuddin's suspension). I have not seen any request yet. Maybe it will come up in the Umno management meeting,' she added. She made the remarks in response to a statement from the Sembrong Umno Division, which called for the reinstatement of its former chief, back into the party leadership, BH reported. The matter was raised during the Sembrong Umno division representative meeting held at the Sembrong Umno Community House last Saturday. It is understood that this is the second consecutive year the Sembrong Umno division has put forward a motion calling for the immediate and unconditional lifting of Hishammuddin's suspension. In his speech at the division's annual meeting, Johor Umno chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi reflected on the significant role Hishammuddin played in the early stages of his political career, referring to him as a 'sifu'. 'Sembrong is not just a political constituency; it's where I began to learn the true meaning of struggle, and the person who guided me here was Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein,' he was quoted as saying. Onn Hafiz added that although Hishammuddin was not present at the event, the motion presented by the members clearly reflected their appreciation for his leadership.

Home Ministry to investigate false IGP infographic, Saifuddin Nasution warns of serious consequences for misleading reporting
PUTRAJAYA, June 23 — The Home Ministry (KDN) will investigate a recent erroneous infographic on the 15th Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, published by a local Malay daily. Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the ministry will look into the matter from all angles, including potential legal action or direct engagement with the media involved. 'If necessary, we will summon them for clarification and take the opportunity to convey how false and irresponsible reporting can have serious implications. 'However, any action taken should not be construed as the government undermining media freedom,' he told reporters after attending the ministry's monthly assembly today. While expressing strong regret over the report, which claimed that the IGP was a member of the PKR Central Leadership Council, Saifuddin Nasution also described the mistake as serious, as it involved the reputation of the highest-ranking officer in the country's largest enforcement agency. 'Surely some effort should have been made to verify the facts. At a time when political divisions and hate sentiments are intensifying, such irresponsible reporting is like wildfire in a dry season,' he said. Saifuddin Nasution also criticised the media outlet's casual explanation that the error was unintentional, saying it failed to acknowledge the significant consequences. 'How do they intend to contain a viral wildfire that fuels hatred? What choice do we have? If we take stern action, then our Madani Government will be accused of being a government that disrespects media freedom. 'But freedom must include the responsibility to report verified facts, not to spread lies that erode public trust in the police institution and tarnish the reputation of the new IGP. The consequences are substantial,' he said. On June 20, the media outlet in question published an infographic linking the IGP to the PKR leadership, which caused widespread public confusion.
