Tengku Zafrul replacing me? Please pray that I stay as Selangor MB while you're on Haj, Amirudin tells minister
GOMBAK, May 31 – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has today downplayed speculation that Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz's entry into PKR was part of a plan to replace him The PKR vice-president also jokingly said he had asked Tengku Zafrul to pray for his job security while the latter is performing the Haj in Mecca. 'In my view, it's a long shot. I don't think that path is likely, as it would require a by-election,' he was quoted saying by Kosmo!, referring to Tengku Zafrul replacing him. 'We only have about two and a half years left in the term, so there isn't much room to manoeuvre. We'll have to monitor any developments.' Amirudin reiterated PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh's statement that the party has yet to receive an official membership application from Tengku Zafrul. He noted that Zafrul's inclusion in PKR would strengthen the party and improve collaborative efforts, citing past cooperation when Zafrul was finance minister. 'Now, as the minister of investment, trade and industry, we're also collaborating in sectors such as aerospace and semiconductors. 'We already have a strong working relationship, and I believe it will only improve,' he said. Amirudin also said discussions had been held with Umno to establish mutual understanding following Tengku Zafrul's decision to leave the party. 'There had been talk of Tengku Zafrul joining since last year. I believe an understanding can or has been reached — I'm not fully informed on that matter,' he added. Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul said he has resigned from Umno and announced plans to apply for membership in political ally PKR. The investment, trade and industry minister is also vacating his seat on the Umno Supreme Council as well as his position as its Kota Raja division chief.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said Tengku Zafrul Aziz's application, if accepted, will go through the central leadership council. PETALING JAYA : PKR will consider input from grassroots members and its partners in the unity government when evaluating any membership application, including one from Tengku Zafrul Aziz, says party secretary-general Fuziah Salleh. Fuziah said the party has not received any official application from Tengku Zafrul despite his statement on social media indicating his intention to join PKR. Once submitted online, it will be processed and tabled at a central leadership council (MPP) meeting. Tengku Zafrul, the current investment, trade and industry minister, had announced his resignation from Umno and said he would be applying to join PKR, citing 'compatibility and suitability'. He was previously an Umno Supreme Council member and head of the Kota Raja Umno division. Tengku Zafrul was appointed as a senator and minister under the administrations of Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Anwar Ibrahim. He contested the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat in the last general election, but did not win. Umno yet to receive Tengku Zafrul's resignation letter, says Asyraf Wajdi
KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Umno has yet to officially receive the letter of resignation from supreme council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, said secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. In a statement tonight, Asyraf Wajdi said Umno takes seriously the intention of the Kota Raja Umno Division chief to resign in order to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). 'It is highly inappropriate for any party within the Unity Government to accept membership applications from members of other parties indiscriminately. 'This is to avoid disharmony among the parties in the Unity Government coalition, which could fuel ongoing prejudice and suspicion regarding the level of solidarity, sincerity and trust among grassroots members,' he said. Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh told Bernama she would comment on the matter yesterday. Earlier yesterday, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation as Umno Supreme Council member, Kota Raja Umno Division chief, and Umno member. He also conveyed his intention to join PKR to president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Fuziah. — Bernama
