Published on: Tue, Jul 29, 2025 Text Size: PH-BN seat talks for Sabah polls finalised Kota Kinabalu: Seat negotiations between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the coming election in Sabah have been finalised, according to PKR Secretary-General Datuk Fuziah Salleh. She said the coalitions would be contesting the election as a team, Berita Harian reported. 'PKR will always welcome cooperation with any party for the coming state election,' she was quoted as saying. However, she did not reveal the number of seats that each coalition would vie for. On Sunday, Sabah PH Deputy Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the coalition was eyeing between 23 and 25 seats. In May, meanwhile, Sabah Umno Information Chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir said Sabah BN was firm in its plan to contest 40 seats. Fuziah's confirmation that PH and BN have finalised seat negotiations comes a day after Gabungan Rakyat Sabah Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced that his coalition would form an electoral pact with PH for the state polls. BEAUFORT: Amanah Sabah has rebuked Gagasan Rakyat Lumadan Chief Datuk Mazlan Joehari Manan for questioning its right to contest the Lumadan seat in the coming state election. Its Deputy Chairman Hashim Deris said Mazlan's remarks reflect political immaturity and ignore Amanah's strong grassroots presence in the area. He said Amanah has been active in Sipitang, which includes Lumadan and Sindumin, for over five years with growing membership. 'Amanah is not a new party hers, we've established branches and built solid support,' he said, adding that in the 15th General Election (GE15), Amanah's candidate Datuk Lahirul Latigu secured over 2,500 votes in Lumadan alone. Responding to Mazlan's claim that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) enjoys strong support in Lumadan, Hashim said GRS has never been tested in the constituency. He noted that Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musa contested under Perikatan Nasional (PN) during GE15, not GRS. 'It's misleading to claim electoral strength when the coalition hasn't been to the ballot box,' he added. Hashim said his statement was not aimed at creating friction within the ruling of GRS-PH coalition, but to defend Amanah's credibility. 'We don't mind if the candidate under GRS-PH Plus isn't from Amanah, as long as the decision is based on merit,' he said. He said candidate selection should be left to top leadership, including the Prime Minister and Chief Minister. 13MP places Sabah's priorities in national plan: Bung

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin described the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as a clear recognition of Sabah's role as a driver of rural transformation and sustainable economic growth. The Kinabatangan MP said 13MP is not just a development roadmap but a strategic shift that places Sabah's priorities at the core of national planning, especially through investments in agriculture, fisheries and agro-based industries. '13MP not only reflects the intent to develop regional infrastructure and the economy, but also strengthens the principles of social justice and long-term rural economic resilience,' he said. He pointed to the RM227 billion allocation for the economic sector, including the creation of an integrated fisheries hub and blue economy in Sabah, as a decisive step towards building a stronger local food supply chain. He added that the plan's focus on modernising agriculture through automation and smart technologies would bring a significant impact to rural communities across the State. Bung also underscored several major projects listed in the 13MP, including the development of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, upgrading of biodiesel depots in Sandakan and Lahad Datu, and the continuation of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'The emphasis on developing the rural workforce through TVET and targeted financing under the TVET Madani programme will shape a new generation of young agropreneurs and local technocrats, in line with 13MP's aspiration to create 1.2 million job opportunities by 2030, including in the digital economy and smart agriculture,' he said. He stressed that Sabah should not be viewed merely as a recipient of federal development, but as a catalyst for national progress. Go on the offensive ahead of next general election, PKR told
Former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said the party must showcase what the government has achieved in a way that can't be denied. PETALING JAYA : PKR must adopt a more aggressive political strategy if the party hopes to secure victory in the next general election, says its former deputy president Rafizi Ramli. He said the party's approach should be focused on two key aspects, that is, by aggressively highlighting the current government's tangible achievements, and openly exposing weaknesses or scandals involving opposition leaders. 'We have to showcase what the government has achieved in a way that can't be denied. At the same time, we must expose failures and scandals involving opposition figures,' the former economy minister said on his podcast last night. However, Rafizi claimed that such strategies are currently missing from the PKR leadership's approach. Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured a total of 82 seats at the last general election in 2022 (GE15), with PKR contributing 31 of those seats. While this marked a decline of 16 seats from the 47‑seat count in GE14 in 2018, PKR remained the second-largest party within the coalition behind DAP (40 seats). In May, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim called for all PKR leaders and members to strengthen the party in preparation for the next general election (GE16), which must be held by early 2028. Anwar, who is also the prime minister, added that PKR must reject the politics of hatred, slander and racism, which will only divide the people and weaken the country.
