Amanah Sabah rebukes remarks over Lumadan seat

BEAUFORT: Amanah Sabah has rebuked Gagasan Rakyat Lumadan Chief Datuk Mazlan Joehari Manan for questioning its right to contest the Lumadan seat in the coming state election. Its Deputy Chairman Hashim Deris said Mazlan's remarks reflect political immaturity and ignore Amanah's strong grassroots presence in the area. He said Amanah has been active in Sipitang, which includes Lumadan and Sindumin, for over five years with growing membership. 'Amanah is not a new party hers, we've established branches and built solid support,' he said, adding that in the 15th General Election (GE15), Amanah's candidate Datuk Lahirul Latigu secured over 2,500 votes in Lumadan alone. Responding to Mazlan's claim that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) enjoys strong support in Lumadan, Hashim said GRS has never been tested in the constituency. He noted that Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musa contested under Perikatan Nasional (PN) during GE15, not GRS. 'It's misleading to claim electoral strength when the coalition hasn't been to the ballot box,' he added. Hashim said his statement was not aimed at creating friction within the ruling of GRS-PH coalition, but to defend Amanah's credibility. 'We don't mind if the candidate under GRS-PH Plus isn't from Amanah, as long as the decision is based on merit,' he said. He said candidate selection should be left to top leadership, including the Prime Minister and Chief Minister. GRS-PH alliance firm, no plan to include BN: Masiung

He said such a three-way understanding may confuse voters, adding that GRS and PH had already agreed to continue their existing political collaboration. Responding to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's suggestion on Sunday, Masiung said Gagasan Rakyat, a main pillar of GRS, would prefer to maintain its current alliances. Anwar, during a meeting with Sabah PKR leaders in Kota Kinabalu, had expressed hope to avoid three-cornered fights through negotiations between GRS, BN, and PH. Masiung stated that GRS had lost trust in BN following the 'Kinabalu Move' episode, which he said involved betrayal and subsequent attacks against the coalition. He said GRS and PH have established a working relationship through the State Government's administration and do not intend to complicate matters with a new arrangement. Centralised price system to boost transparency

PENAMPANG: The Government will develop a centralised Price and Supply Repository System to monitor price trends and prevent manipulative practices in the market, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. He said the system, to be introduced under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), will provide a transparent data platform to detect abnormal price movements and support enforcement action against profiteering and cartel-like behaviour. 'This is a proactive step toward ensuring fairer market practices and greater price transparency across the supply chain, especially for essential goods,' he told reporters after officiating the Seminar Kenegaraan Malaysia Madani: Rancakkan Madani Sabah at ITTC Penampang. According to Armizan, the repository system will consolidate real-time information on pricing, supply volumes, and distribution to assist both consumers and regulators in making informed decisions. 'Through this system, enforcement agencies will be able to act more swiftly and decisively using data-driven evidence. It's a game-changer in combating unethical manipulation and protecting consumer interests,' he said. He added that the system will be developed through inter-ministerial cooperation and partnerships with industry players, including suppliers, retailers, and logistics operators. Armizan emphasised that the initiative reflects the Madani Government's commitment to protecting consumers while creating s healthier market environment that encourages genuine competition. School apologises for upside down Jalur Gemilang

SEREMBAN: SJKC Chung Hua in Port Dickson has apologised for mistakenly flying the Jalur Gemilang flag upside down at the school last Friday. The school, in a joint statement with the school board and parents-teachers association (PIBG), expressed regret for the incident, attributing it to staff oversight, Bernama reported. 'The incident occurred on the afternoon of Aug 1, when a school employee was installing national flags before the end of the workday. 'Due to carelessness, one of the flags was hoisted upside down,' it was quoted as saying in a statement posted on the school's Facebook page. The school said it was alerted about the error at around 5pm and immediately rectified it, acknowledging public concern following the circulation of photos of the flag on social media. SJKC Chung Hua said it remains committed to respecting national symbols and will improve internal oversight to avoid future incidents. Meanwhile, education minister Fadhlina Sedek said that stern action will be taken against the school after a full investigation is completed and the report is submitted to the ministry, BuletinTV3 reported. 'We are currently awaiting the full investigation, and I want to emphasise that once we receive the report, action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Fadhlina said that her ministry has repeatedly reminded all parties about this issue, and the same problem should not have happened again. 'I constantly stress the importance of sensitivity, responsibility, and commitment when it comes to the Jalur Gemilang, especially as we approach National Day.
