Air India cancels Bhubaneswar-Delhi flight due to 'high temperature' in aircraft cabin
Air India did not provide details such as the number of people on board the aircraft, the type of aircraft or even the time the now-grounded flight was scheduled to take off from Bhubaneswar.
This is the second incident of an Air India flight confronting a technical glitch in a day.
This comes amid the aviation safety regulator DGCA detecting over 100 violations and observations, with some of them identified as critical safety risks, during an audit of the Tata Group-run private carrier, and one of its Boeing 787-8 plane operating its London Gatwick flight crashing on a medical college within minutes of its take-off on June 12, killing 241 people on board and 19 on ground.
"Flight AI500 scheduled to operate from Bhubaneswar to Delhi on August 3 has been cancelled due to a technical issue causing high cabin temperature on ground prior to the departure," Air India said in a statement.
"Our airport team in Bhubaneswar is assisting the impacted passengers with alternative arrangements to fly them to their destination to Delhi. We regret the inconvenience caused," the airline said.
The flight, according to flight tracking website flightradar24.com, was to be operated by an Airbus A321 aircraft at its scheduled time of 12. 35 pm, and land in Delhi at 2.55 pm.

Hubballi Airport leads in solar power generation among AAI airports
1 2 3 Hubballi: The Hubballi Airport, where an 8MW solar power plant was installed in Dec 2022, has emerged as the highest power-generating among Airport Authority of India (AAI) airports in the country. It produces 8MW of electricity per day, meeting its own needs before supplying excess power to other state airports. It's also said that Hubballi Airport is the first AAI-run facility in the country to export solar-generated power to multiple establishments. Rupesh Kumar Sripad, director of Hubballi Airport, told TOI that Hubballi is India's first airport-based solar plant supplying renewable energy to multiple airports. "The plant generated 2.4 crore units of power in the last two years. We saved Rs 12.4 crore that was supposed to be paid as the electricity bill for all AAI establishments in Karnataka. AAI establishments like Ballari Radar Station, Bengaluru Gagan Air-navigation monitoring station, Bengaluru-Devanahalli Airport-AAI staff residential colony, and Mangalore Airport AAI staff residential colony benefit from the Hubballi solar plant, whose project cost was Rs 33.2 crore," he explained. He further said, "Revenue generated from balanced energy after feeding to AAI establishments in Karnataka is Rs 2.1 crore." Sources added that the airport is selling electricity to KPTCL, earning over Rs one crore annually, while saving around Rs 3.6 crore in power bills every year. Earlier, Belagavi and Hubballi airports were shortlisted for the setting up of a solar plant, and Hubballi was preferred based on its weather history. The plant is installed by Madhav Infra Project Limited of Gujarat under the Sustainable Green Airport Mission, in an area of 38 acres, offsetting an estimated 2.1 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions during its lifespan. Thanks to such a green effort, the airport was honoured with the Platinum In The Green Airport Recognition-2025 award, meant for global green airports, in April, by Airports Council International Asia-Pacific and Middle East. India, China may resume direct flights next month
India and China may resume direct flights as early as next month, people familiar with the talks said, as both nations seek to reset ties. Indian carriers have been asked to prepare services at short notice, with an announcement likely around the SCO summit in China later in Aug. Passenger flights were halted after Covid pandemic, forcing travelers to route via hubs like Hong Kong or Singapore. The move comes as India's ties with the US face strain amid a tariff war. On Monday, Air India said it would suspend its Washington DC service next month citing "operational factors." Relations between India and China soured after 2020 border clashes but have eased with India recently allowing tourist visas for Chinese nationals. Before the suspension, Air India, IndiGo, Air China, China Southern and China Eastern operated direct services. Both Air India and IndiGo are expected to restart China flights, though the exact timing remains uncertain.
