Fed Holds Rates Steady at 4.25%–4.5%

In a widely expected move, the Federal Reserve on Wednesday kept the federal funds rate unchanged at 4.25%–4.5% for the fifth consecutive meeting, as officials continue to assess inflation dynamics and global trade tensions.
The decision by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) came with a rare twist: for the first time since 1993, two Fed governors dissented, advocating for a rate cut instead of maintaining the status quo. Muted Market Reaction
Initial market response was restrained: Stocks held onto earlier gains
Treasury yields remained elevated
The U.S. dollar remained firm amid higher-than-expected GDP data and steady inflation readings
Attention now turns to Fed Chair Jerome Powell's press conference, where markets are hoping for clarity on whether the central bank will consider easing rates at the September meeting. Economic Data and Trump's Pressure
Ahead of the Fed's announcement, President Donald Trump had publicly urged the central bank to cut rates immediately. Citing better-than-expected GDP figures, Trump wrote on social media:
'Growth came in stronger than anyone predicted — we need rate cuts now!'
New data released Wednesday showed the U.S. economy expanded by 3% in the second quarter (April–June), rebounding from a contraction in Q1. Core inflation also ticked slightly higher, reinforcing the Fed's cautious approach while giving Treasury yields a boost. Global Tensions Loom
Beyond domestic economics, Trump's policy announcements added complexity to the Fed's calculus. Just hours before the FOMC statement, Trump confirmed the U.S. would impose a 25% tariff on Indian imports starting August 1, citing India's continued purchase of Russian energy and military equipment.
He also warned of a 'penalty' on top of the tariff, escalating tensions with one of America's key trading partners. The announcement rattled currency markets, sending the Indian rupee sharply lower against the U.S. dollar. What's Next?
With inflation still above the Fed's 2% target and geopolitical risks rising, the central bank faces a delicate balancing act. Powell's post-meeting remarks will be closely analyzed for signs of any policy pivot ahead of the September meeting.
Bottom line: The Fed is holding steady—for now. But global pressure, political interference, and fresh inflation data could soon tip the scales.

Court OKs Trump plan to curtail unions at EPA, Interior, DOE

A federal appeals court cleared the way last week for the Trump administration to pursue plans to end collective bargaining for employees at the Interior and Energy departments, EPA and other agencies, even as unions are challenging the changes in court. On Friday, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals paused a lower court order that prevented the administration from enforcing President Donald Trump's March executive order barring collective bargaining at more than two dozen agencies and sub-agencies based on national security concerns. The new order, an emergency stay, is in effect while the challenges to the EO works its way through the courts. Advertisement 'Whatever harm to collective bargaining rights that Plaintiffs will experience due to a stay is mitigated by the direction to agencies to refrain from terminating collective bargaining agreements until litigation has concluded,' the court said in an unsigned order.

The Zacks Analyst Blog Highlights Interactive Brokers, Visa, Robinhood Markets and PayPal Holdings

For Immediate Release Chicago, IL – August 4, 2025 – announces the list of stocks featured in the Analyst Blog. Every day the Zacks Equity Research analysts discuss the latest news and events impacting stocks and the financial markets. Stocks recently featured in the blog include: Interactive Brokers Group IBKR, Visa Inc. V, Robinhood Markets, Inc. HOOD and PayPal Holdings PYPL. Here are highlights from Friday's Analyst Blog: 4 Crypto-Centric Stocks to Buy Before Bitcoin Resumes Its Rally The cryptocurrency rally has slowed over the past couple of days, with Bitcoin (BTC) retreating from its all-time high. Several factors have been weighing on the crypto market, but the decline is temporary as the rally is expected to resume once these tensions ease. President Donald Trump's tariffs, a delay in the interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve and multiple other factors are hurting Bitcoin. However, the cryptocurrency has still held its ground and is trying to make a rebound. The temporary dip might be an ideal opportunity to invest in crypto-focused stocks. We have selected four stocks, namely Interactive Brokers Group, Visa Inc., Robinhood Markets, Inc. and PayPal Holdings. Each of these stocks has strong growth potential for 2025 and has seen positive earnings estimate revisions in the last 90 days. Bitcoin Retreats From All-Time High Bitcoin hit an all-time high of $123,153.22 earlier last month before paring some of its gains. The cryptocurrency remained rangebound, hovering around $119,000 for most of July. However, the final days of July saw Bitcoin falling below $116,000 to enter a short-term bearish zone. On Thursday, Bitcoin was hovering around $115,100. The decline came after the Federal Reserve left interest rates steady in its current range of 4.25-4.5%. The decision was anticipated, but there was a bleak hope among investors that the Fed could go for a 25-basis-point rate cut. Higher interest rates negatively impact growth-oriented sectors, which include technology, consumer discretionary industries and cryptocurrencies. Also, uncertainty over the impact of Trump's tariffs on inflation has made investors jittery. Although the White House said that it has reached trade deals with several nations after negotiations, there is a lack of clarity over the new tariff structure. In recent months, the effects of higher tariffs have become evident, as prices of goods have increased. Inflation saw an uptick in June, which analysts largely attribute to the elevated tariffs. The Federal Reserve is postponing any interest rate cuts as it monitors how these developments influence inflation and broader economic trends. However, Bitcoin is likely to resume its rally once investors get more clarity on these issues. Markets are still pricing in two 25-basis-point rate cuts by the end of this year, which are expected to boost Bitcoin. 4 Crypto-Centric Stocks with Upside Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. Trump calls Elizabeth Warren a 'loser'

Trump calls Elizabeth Warren a 'loser' originally appeared on TheStreet. On Aug. 4, President Donald Trump went after Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and called her a "loser" in a Truth Social post. The shocking post comes only days after Warren, along with a group of Democrat senators, wrote a letter to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's newly appointed head, Jonathan Gould, in which she asked the bureau what steps it will take to keep the U.S. banking system safe amid Trump's "conflicts of interest." The Trump family is one of the wealthiest business families in the U.S. and is involved with multiple crypto ventures. Bitcoin treasury, meme coins, crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs), crypto mining, decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs) — the First Family is engaged with nearly every segment of the crypto these crypto ventures have raised eyebrows due to alleged "conflicts of interest" on the part of the president. Warren is one of the most vocal Democrat leaders to lead the campaign against what she calls Trump's "corruption" owing to his crypto dealings. The Democrat leader has also criticized the progress of crypto-related bills in the U.S. The GENIUS Act, which the president recently signed, was the main focus point of her recent letter to the OCC. While the law deals with stablecoin regulation, the USD1 stablecoin — launched by the Trump family-backed crypto organization, World Liberty Financial (WLF) — is a major player in the $268 billion market. Meanwhile, Trump revived the "Pocahontas" moniker for the Massachusetts senator in his latest post, saying, "She's no Pocahontas." Warren had once claimed Indian ancestry, and the claim has repeatedly been severely scrutinized. Trump has pejoratively called her "Pocahontas" many times.
