Gallants slapped on the wrist as PSL rules on Mphambaniso matter
Marumo Gallants have been slapped on the wrist by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the matter involving Monde Mphambaniso. Gallants were found guilty by the South African Football Association (SAFA) for playing Mphambaniso without a clearance. Mphambaniso featured in 26 league matches for Gallants last season, and Cape Town City discovered this and lodged an official complaint. And while City had expected a deduction of points which would have seen them reinstated back to the Betway Premiership. Had Gallants been docked points, they would have finished below City but the PSL Disciplinary Committee (PSL DC) decided otherwiee. In its ruling, the PSL DC found Gallants guilty as charged but not Mphambaniso, and the club was fined R200 000 of which half was suspended. City finished 15th on the log last season, and were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship via the playoffs. According to the PSL Prosecutor Advocate Zola Majavu, Cape Town City are welcome to appeal this latest ruling. Marumo Gallants players celebrate. Image: Twitter/@_Marumogallants 'I can confirm that a short while ago, the PSL DC just finalised a disciplinary matter in which I had preferred charges of misconduct against Marumo Gallants Football Club as well as its player, Mr. Monde Mpambaniso,' said Majavu. 'The PSL DC ruled as follows, one, that Marumo Gallants be fined an amount of 200,000 Rands, half of which is immediately payable, and the other half suspended for 24 months, on condition that during the period of suspension they are not found guilty of the same offence again.' 'Should they re-offend, that suspended portion would be triggered immediately, and they will be further sanctioned for that subsequent misdemeanour. 'They were further directed to carry the costs of the DC hearing up until the matter was finalised, which costs would be completed administratively, and then on forwarded to Marumo Gallants to pay.'
