GHMC officials told to rev up land acquisition for Rasoolpura flyover

Hyderabad: The city's infrastructure is set to undergo a major transformation, as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up the flyover project at Rasoolpura under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) initiative. Commissioner RV Karnan directed officials to expedite land acquisition for the flyover. On Thursday, as part of the Secunderabad Railway Station redevelopment, RV Karnan inspected nearby bus stops and reviewed the progress of related infrastructure works. He also visited the proposed site for the Rasoolpura flyover and instructed officials to initiate immediate land acquisition. Officials informed the Commissioner that a 24-meter stretch of land from the railway boundary is required for the project. Project SE Srinivas requested the Commissioner to allocate alternate land for the existing bus stop to facilitate its relocation. The inspection aimed to ensure smooth progress of infrastructure works and minimise disruptions. The Rasoolpura flyover project was proposed in 2019 during the tenure of the BRS government. However, the project continues to face inordinate delays, as 1.62 acres of land belonging to the Inter-State Police Wireless Staff Quarters still need to be transferred to the GHMC. Last month, Commissioner RV Karnan, along with Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kiran, inspected various ongoing and proposed works in the Secunderabad zone. The inspection covered key areas, including Tarnaka, Chilkalguda, Patigadda, Rasoolpura, and Prakash Nagar. Karnan reviewed the construction of the Tarnaka Junction Island, landscaping plans, and the proposed site for the Chilkalguda H-CITI Road under Bridge (RuB). He also assessed the proposed AOC Road, the Rasoolpura flyover site, alignment works, and land acquisition needed for the expansion of the Patigadda Railway Over Bridge. The Commissioner directed officials to address waterlogging issues near Prakash Nagar and Hyderabad Public School (HPS) by immediately initiating desilting works. The state government has accorded administrative sanction for 23 works under the H-CITI Project, amounting to Rs 5,942 crore, superseding the earlier sanction of Rs 4,305 crore.

GHMC General Council holds discussions on monsoon prep

Hyderabad: The GHMC General Council meeting on Wednesday held detailed discussions on monsoon preparedness and other basic amenities. The 11th meeting was chaired by GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijaylakshmi. During this meeting, the members voiced their outrage at the horrific attack on innocent individuals by terrorists in Pahalgam. The council members extended their heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of this attack and held a two-minute moment of silence to pray for the peace of the souls who have departed. GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has called on both authorities and public representatives to collaborate effectively for the city's progress. Prior to the start of the meeting, the Mayor spoke at the council gathering and stated the Chief Minister has guaranteed that there will be ample funding available for infrastructure and welfare development within GHMC, and she expressed his appreciation for the support given to the development of Baldia through the allocation of funds. The pre-monsoon sanitation initiative aims to clean all streets to prevent seasonal diseases. She stressed the program's large-scale implementation for city cleanliness and urged officials to work with local representatives, MLAs, MLCs, and MPs for its success. Zonal review meetings are addressing public concerns, and decisions have been made to resolve issues raised by corporators. The mayor confirmed that corporators will collaborate with officials on sanitation, de-silting, Nala development, and infrastructure improvements in various zones. The aim is to identify new routes for the approximately 744.22 km of roads designated in CRMP-1 and to transfer the management of a total of 1142.54 km of roads to private agencies for the next five years (2025-2030), while seeking approval for a budget of Rs 3825 crore for this initiative. Furthermore, the corporators from various parties claim that they made plans to remove the officials due to alleged irregularities in the tenders for vehicles intended for use in the monsoon relief efforts. In the meeting, BRS corporators raised concerns about the arrest of Baba Fasiuddin, a Congress member from Borabanda, alleging his involvement in a suicide. They raised slogans and held placards demanding Fasiuddin's arrest. Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi intervened and successfully calmed the upset corporators. She mentioned that a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged and that the case is currently being investigated. 'The law will take its course, and if the BRS corporators have any additional evidence related to this issue, they are urged to present it to the investigating authorities,' she stated. However, BJP corporators expressed their discontent with the council meeting. During the session, BJP corporators resolved to remove the Mayor over issues related to road maintenance, street lighting upkeep, sanitation, birth certificate processing, entomology, and the construction and upkeep of flood water canals. Other issues discussed were the operation of HYDRA, the status of street lighting, the process for issuing birth and death certificates, the rainwater harvesting pits built by GHMC, the restoration of RTC bus stops, the absence of essential infrastructure in cemeteries, and the painting and beautification projects carried out on flyovers throughout the city. The meeting was attended by MPs Eatala Rajender, Raghunandan Rao, MLCs Vijayashanti, Balmuri Venkat, Mirza Riaz ul Hassan Effendi, Mirza Rahmat Baig, Addanki Dayakar, MLAs Zulfiqar Ali, Majid Hussain, Kausar Moinuddin, Rajasekhar Reddy, Bandari Laxma Reddy, Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Additional Commissioners Sneha Shabarish, Venugopal, Venugopal Reddy, Pankaja, Subhadra, and others were present.

Hyderabad: Applications for Indiramma houses within the Greater Hyderabad limits flooded the face-to-face programme conducted by BC welfare and city in charge minister, Ponnam Prabhakar, at the Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday. A majority of the people who came to the programme were from the state capital, with a few from neighbouring districts. The people urged Ponnam to sanction Indiramma houses and requested that he ask the chief minister to increase the quota of Indiramma houses for the poor in the city. The state govt sanctioned 3,500 Indiramma houses for each of the 119 assembly constituencies in the state in the first phase of the programme. Speaking to TOI, Ponnam Prabhakar said there was a lot of demand for housing in Greater Hyderabad and the Congress govt was committed to ensuring that every eligible poor family gets an Indiramma house in a phased manner. The programme was stopped midway without any reasons given, but sources in Gandhi Bhavan said it was due to MLC elections and other factors. It has been revived now after TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud spoke to the chief minister and also AICC in charge Meenakshi Natarajan. The AICC in charge also participated briefly in the face-to-face session and interacted with the people about the problems they were facing in getting their grievances addressed by the officials. Applications for jobs, loans for self-employment schemes, resolutions to land encroachments and disputes, new ration cards, inclusion of names on existing cards, allocation of pending allotment of 2-BHK houses, inclusion of names in the free electricity scheme, and other welfare programmes were submitted to the minister. A delegation of the Telangana Udyama Karula Forum told TOI that they urged Ponnam Prabhakar to remind the TPCC president and the CM about the Congress election manifesto, which promised a house site and a monthly pension to those who fought for statehood. They urged Ponnam to speak to the CM and ensure that a committee is constituted to identify all such Udyama Karulu. "It is not only about the monthly honorarium and house site, but mainly about acknowledgement that we fought and achieved statehood. The govt should give us a memento or certificate, which we will display in our houses and offices as a mark of pride and self-respect that we were at the forefront of the statehood agitation," said forum leader Taduri Gagan Kumar.
