New Ambitious Partnership to Boost Digitization of Moroccan Commerce

Morocco World10-04-2025

Rabat — In a bold move that signals Morocco's commitment to economic modernization, government officials gathered in Rabat on Wednesday to forge a partnership that could reshape the country's commercial future.
The Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce signed a partnership agreement yesterday in Rabat to accelerate the digitization of commerce in Morocco.
'This isn't just about digitizing paperwork — it's about transforming how we do business,' said Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition, as she signed the landmark agreement alongside Omar Hejira, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade.
The ambitious partnership targets two critical fronts: revolutionizing domestic retail operations and supercharging Morocco's digital export capabilities.
For local merchants, this means unprecedented access to cutting-edge digital tools, specialized training programs, and technical support systems designed to bring even the smallest shopkeepers into the digital age.
At the heart of the domestic initiative sits the Moroccan Retail Tech Builder platform, a hub for commercial innovation that will bridge the gap between traditional commerce and emerging technologies.
Meanwhile, the partnership also strengthens ties with scientific research through the 'JAZARI Institute' initiative, placing Morocco at the forefront of commercial technological advancement.

'We're witnessing the acceleration of commerce digitization,' Hejira told reporters, stressing the sector's importance in providing over 1.6 million jobs. 'Our government is particularly focused on supporting small operators who might otherwise be left behind in this transformation.'
The export-focused dimension of the partnership introduces three game-changing platforms set to redefine how Moroccan businesses engage with global markets. The 'One Shop Store Export' offers tailored support to exporters navigating international waters, while the website 'Trade.ma' displays national products to worldwide audiences.
Perhaps most innovative is 'Tijaria,' an AI-powered interactive platform that delivers real-time intelligence on international opportunities to Moroccan businesses.
This agreement builds on Morocco's growing digital momentum. Just one day prior, El Fallah Seghrouchni signed a separate agreement with the United Nations Development Programme to launch a digital sustainable development course and establish a center of excellence in artificial intelligence and data science, positioning the country as a regional tech hub serving both Arab and African countries.
To ensure these ambitious plans translate into meaningful change, officials have established both a strategic steering committee and a monthly monitoring committee to oversee implementation.
As Morocco continues its digital metamorphosis, this partnership represents more than bureaucratic cooperation. For the Moroccan government, the partnership signals the North African country's determination to transform traditional commerce into a modern, competitive force on the global stage. Real Madrid Target Ajax Wonderkid Abdellah Ouazane as Contract Expires

Doha – Real Madrid have set their sights on 16-year-old Ajax talent Abdellah Ouazane, who is set to become a free agent when his contract expires on June 30. The Spanish giants have been monitoring the Moroccan youngster for some time and have already initiated contact with the player's representatives. Born in Amsterdam but representing Morocco at youth level, Ouazane was named the best player at the African U-17 Cup. His performances in the tournament attracted attention from several major European clubs, with Real Madrid now pushing to secure his signature. The creative midfielder has impressed during his first year at the youth level with Ajax and has already made his debut with the Dutch club's first youth team. Despite previously playing for the Netherlands U-15 side, Ouazane appears to have chosen to represent Morocco internationally. According to reports confirmed by Marca, the youngster could join either Real Madrid's youth team or potentially their Castilla reserve side. Madrid's interest in Ouazane dates back to early last season, but club officials wanted to see how he performed in a major tournament before making their move. Ouazane is known for his versatility, capable of playing both as an attacking midfielder and in central midfield. He possesses a powerful shot and is skilled at taking free kicks. The Amsterdam native made his debut for Morocco's U-17 team in October 2024 and has already scored four goals in 13 appearances. While Madrid's senior team prepares for the upcoming Club World Cup starting June 14, with their first match against Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal scheduled for June 18, the club's directors are working to finalize the acquisition of one of the most promising young talents they have scouted in recent months. UK Delegation Meets Morocco's FM Following Historic Backing of Autonomy Plan

Rabat – Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita hosted in Rabat today members of the British parliamentary delegation, with the visit coming on the heels of a significant shift in the UK's position on the Western Sahara dispute. The delegation, representing the UK group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union and led by Fabian Hamilton, held talks with Bourita following British Foreign Secretary David Lammy's visit to Morocco on Sunday. During his visit, the UK's top diplomat officially announced his government's support for Morocco's autonomy initiative as the only credible basis for resolving the dispute over Western Sahara. Today's meeting reflects growing diplomatic momentum between the two countries, coming shortly after Lammy stated that the UK now considers Morocco's autonomy proposal 'serious and credible' and a viable solution to the decades-long dispute. Yesterday, Hamilton talked extensively to Moroccan media about the significance of the UK's recent decision to support Morocco's Autonomy plan. He pointed out a growing consensus among the world's top powers: 'We now have three out of the five permanent members of the Security Council supporting the autonomy plan.' Discussions reportedly focused on reinforcing legislative dialogue between Moroccan and British lawmakers, in line with broader efforts to deepen political, economic, and security collaboration. Observers view the visit as part of a broader British diplomatic push to connect with key partners in North Africa, particularly as London seeks to recalibrate its foreign policy post-Brexit. The UK's endorsement of the Moroccan plan represents a diplomatic win for Rabat, which has long lobbied international actors to support its autonomy initiative as a final settlement to the Western Sahara dispute. The British delegation's visit also signals a continuation of the strategic dialogue between the two countries, which have expanded cooperation in sectors ranging from trade and investment to education and renewable energy. As diplomatic activity intensifies, Morocco's foreign ministry has signaled that it expects further engagements with UK officials in the coming months.
