'Resident Evil Survival Unit' Is An RTS Mobile Spin-Off
Joycity, which previously made other licensed RTS mobile spin-offs such as 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War , will co-develop the upcoming title with Japanese entertainment company Aniplex, with the game being made in 'close collaboration with Capcom to ensure authenticity and quality', according to its press release.
' Resident Evil: Survival Unit offers a fresh take on the beloved franchise, reimagining the survival horror universe as a real-time strategy experience optimised for mobile platforms, iOS and Android,' read the release, 'The game is designed to appeal to both longtime fans and new players.'
A full reveal of the mobile game will take place this week, but for now, fans have their first clue of the game's setting via an artwork accompanying the game's logo. The image depicts what seems to be a road leading into town during a heavy thunderstorm, with a billboard on the roadside for the notorious Umbrella Corporation, featuring a happy couple with the words 'Our Business is life itself…'
With the presence of Umbrella, this could hint at the game being set in Raccoon City, as the evil corporation had a significant presence in the city before its eventual downfall. In this vein, it won't be surprising if the title featured familiar faces such as a young Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, or even Hunk.
As to how the mobile game will adapt the survival horror shooting format into an RTS remains to be seen, with more details being revealed during an online showcase set to broadcast on YouTube on 10 July 2025. Resident Evil Survival Unit will launch for iOS and Android across North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Asia.

Zach Cregger's 'Resident Evil' Movie Won't Be "Completely Obedient" To Games
Zach Cregger, director of the upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot, has admitted that his adaptation will not be a one-for-one retelling of the games, and that it won't be 'completely obedient' to its lore. Speaking during an interview with SFX, Cregger reassured fans by stating how much of a Resident Evil fan he was, and exclaimed that he didn't know how many times he had replayed Resident Evil 4 . He didn't explain how his take will differ from its source material, but said that it will still remain authentic to the essence of the games. Resident Evil 2 (2019) 'I'm trying to tell a story that just feels authentic to the experience you get when you play the games. I don't think I'm breaking any major rules, but I also recognise that no matter what I do, people are going to come for me online,' Cregger said, 'So all I want to do is just make a really good movie and tell a story that's compelling. I know that I'm gonna be happy with the movie, and hopefully other people will, too.' Only time will tell how the movie will differ from the games, and in what specific way. For now, all that's confirmed from the project is its single announced actor, Euphoria's Austin Abrams, who will take on a yet-to-be-announced role. The movie has not begun filming yet, but it will be based on a script co-written by Cregger and Shay Hatten ( Ballerina ). Resident Evil HD Remaster (2015) This isn't the only film in Cregger's pipeline either, as he is also set to work with Abrams once more in the upcoming mystery thriller Weapons , which stars Josh Brolin ( Dune ) and Julia Garner ( Wolf Man ) and follows a set of mysterious disappearances in a small-town community. The film is set for release on 8 August, giving Cregger time after to fully commit himself to the Resident Evil movie, which is due out on 18 September 2026. World's First Official 'Dragon Ball' Store Goes Over 9,000 In Tokyo This Fall
Kamehameha! It's a wonder how Dragon Ball, one of the most beloved names in pop culture, hasn't gotten an official store after all this time, but things will soon change. In celebration of the franchise's 40th anniversary, Shueisha and Toei Animation have announced the opening of the first Dragon Ball store in the world later this year. In celebration of the DRAGON BALL 40th AnniversaryAnnouncing the world's first "DRAGON BALL STORE"! To open in Tokyo, fall of 2025https:// #DragonBall40th #dragonball #ドラゴンボール — DRAGON BALL OFFICIAL (@DB_official_en) July 13, 2025 The aptly-titled Dragon Ball Store is scheduled to launch in Tokyo, Japan, in the fall of 2025, featuring 'must-buy' items for fans that include limited-edition goods available nowhere else. Other information, such as the merchandise lineup and its exact location, will be unveiled 'shortly'. The well-loved franchise joins JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in welcoming a world's first store, with the latter coming to the sixth floor of Shibuya PARCO in Tokyo later this month. Created by the late Akira Toriyama, the Dragon Ball manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1992 across 42 volumes. The first half was adapted into a 153-episode anime in 1986, while Dragon Ball Z continued the story from 1989 to 1996. The series is considered to be the most iconic part of the franchise, bringing memorable arcs focusing on Saiyan, Frieza, Majin Buu, and more to life. To date, it has sold over 160 million copies in Japan and 260 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series to date. Prior to Toriyama's unfortunate passing, the industry legend was reported to be working on the Dragon Ball Super manga, which went on a semi-hiatus, and the Dragon Ball: Daima anime that aired last October. 'Resident Evil Survival Unit' Mobile Game Combines Puzzles & Real-Time Defence Battles, Stars Fan-Favourite Characters
Aniplex's upcoming strategy mobile game spin-off, Resident Evil Survival Unit , has received an official first look, detailing its gameplay mix of both puzzle-solving and real-time defence battle combat, alongside the appearance of multiple characters from the franchise. As described via a lengthy showcase video, the game is set to be 'the world's first full Resident Evil for mobile' and will be made in partnership with Capcom and South Korean mobile game developer JoyCity. The game's executive producer Shinji Hashimoto, producer Kye Dongkyun, Resident Evil franchise producer Masachika Kawata, and guest creature designer Yoshitaka Amano shared more on the upcoming title, including its inspiration, design and gameplay elements. In a brief snippet of gameplay shown off in the video's 12-minute mark, Resident Evil Survival Unit looks to be a combination of mobile gaming tropes, offering a mix of base management, puzzle solving, alongside real-time defence battles akin to the Adobe Flash video game franchise, The Last Stand . In terms of progression, the protagonist will recruit a team of well-known Resident Evil faces such as Leon S Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Barry Burton to fight back against the zombie threat, upgrading them with resources bought from the iconic Merchant character to tackle tougher foes. Although it wasn't explicitly specified in the video, the game's mobile format will no doubt indicate the presence of dreaded microtransactions and paywalls, so it remains to be seen how badly progression will be hindered for those not spending additional real-world currency on the title. Story-wise, the game is set to occur in a parallel universe, and according to the team, will not be canon to the wider Resident Evil series, so fans shouldn't expect any links to Capcom's more anticipated upcoming title, Resident Evil Requiem , which is set to release on 27 February 2026. With such a massive upcoming title like Resident Evil Requiem on the horizon, Resident Evil Survival Unit has its work cut out for it, especially being a mobile game, to prevent it from flying under the radar. Whether it can offer up enough fresh ideas to make it stand out from the oversaturated mobile gaming crowd still remains to be seen, as it approaches its launch later this year for iPhone and Android devices.
