Bruno Fernandes may have to abandon Man Utd transfer plan with Al-Hilal decision

Daily Mirror2 days ago

Bruno Fernandes has been offered the opportunity to leave Manchester United for a lucrative contract in Saudi Arabia, but he has previously suggested moving to a different country
Bruno Fernandes has a big decision to make – and whichever call he makes, he will likely have to abandon his previous plans. The Manchester United captain has been handed the opportunity of a mega-money move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, but is yet to make his mind up.
Fernandes stands at a crossroads in his career following a dreadful campaign for United which saw them finish 15th in the Premier League and lose the Europa League final. After a miserable and embarrassing post-season trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong, he now has to decide whether to stick by United, or cash in with a move to Al-Hilal.

The Saudi club are reportedly willing to pay United £100million to sign the Portugal international, who they will then pay £100m over the course of his contract. His agent Miguel Pinho has been in Riyadh for talks with the club's executives this week and he reportedly has a week to decide, with Al-Hilal preparing for the Club World Cup.

Amid the storm, Fernandes has stirred the pot by posting a Portuguese quote on Instagram which translates to: 'If you tried and failed, congratulations! There are people who don't even try.'
It will soon be crunch time for the 30-year-old midfielder, who is under contract with United until June 2027, although the club also have the option of another year. Fernandes has 98 goals and 87 assists in 290 games for United since joining them from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and has been captain for two seasons.
Al-Hilal's interest in his services is nothing new, but United's dreadful form and need to rejuvenate their squad suddenly makes the move a distinct possibility. Whatever he does – stay with United, or move to Saudi Arabia – it now seems unlikely that Fernandes will not follow through with a previously-stated desire to play in Brazil.

He will turn 31 in September and this summer's decision would appear to rule out a future transfer to a Brazilian side further down the line. "Whenever I can, I follow it, because I find Brazilian football attractive, electric football, with a lot of quality, joy, very one-on-one,' he previously said.
HAVE YOUR SAY! Will Bruno Fernandes decide to quit Manchester United? Comment below.

"It's pure football. And I think that now, with the coaches that are there, not only the Portuguese, but also Brazilians, are increasingly developing in the tactical part.
"I don't really like talking about the distant future, but it's like I said. It's attractive football, very interesting. The only thing is that the trips are very long there in Brazil! There are many competitions, many clubs that play Libertadores and Sudamericana, very good competitions. I'm not saying no, because Brazilian football is very attractive, and we never know the future."
The contract reportedly on offer at Al-Hilal is worth a staggering £700,000 per week and would run for three years. At the end of that, he will be approaching 34 and could instead choose to move back to his native Portugal, rather than to South America, away from his extended family.

Bruno Fernandes sent message by former Premier League star over Al-Hilal transfer as Man Utd star remains in talks

AN ex-Premier League star has encouraged Bruno Fernandes to join him at Al-Hilal. The Manchester United captain's agent Miguel Pinho held talks over a mega-money move to the Saudi Arabian club last week. 2 Al-Hilal reckon they can get the Red Devils to sell for £100m and offer the player a three-year tax-free deal worth £200m. The amount could still increase with journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming the club will do "whatever it takes" to get their "top target". Talks with both Al-Hilal and Man Utd are set to continue this week. Fernandes is reportedly "seriously considering" leaving Old Trafford. A move to the Riyadh-based side would see him become team-mates with ex- Premier League aces Ruben Neves, Joao Cancelo, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Kalidou Koulibaly. And Portuguese compatriot Neves is keen for Fernandes to join him. Asked about conversations with him, the former Wolves captain told O Jogo: "I recommend any player who is in the national team. "We have a lot of talent. We are lucky in that aspect. A small country, but with excellent players, just yesterday four won the Champions League. That makes any child dream. Neves left Wolves in 2023 for £47m and he reportedly pockets £15.6m-a-year in Saudi. dinner with Cancelo. It is likely a reunion at Al-Hilal was on the menu as fans think the old Manchester City star was "playing agent". Asked if Man Utd's post-season friendly against Hong Kong last Friday was Fernandes' farewell game, Ruben Amorim replied: ' I don't know for sure, nobody knows, but I don't think so. 'He is seeing us taking some actions to change all the things and I think that is all that he wants to stay. 'He's saying 'no' to a lot of things, but it shows that he wants to win. "He's really young, he's really good. He needs to be in the best league in the world.'

Scotland international Oli McBurnie is set to be one of the most in demand strikers of the summer after he emerged as a key transfer target for four clubs despite suffering relegation from La Liga with Las Palmas. The 28-year-old striker spent the last season in the Spanish top flight, alongside Scotland centre-back Scott McKenna, after joining the Gran Canaria-based club on a free transfer after being relegated from the English Premier League with Sheffield United in 2024. However, he is available on a free again this summer due to a clause in his contract enabling him to depart for no transfer fee. According to a new report from Alan Nixon, the 28-year-old has attracted interest from two of his former clubs, with both Swansea City and Sheffield United both hoping to add the Las Palmas striker to their ranks next season, alongside fellow EFL Championship club Hull City. However, all three clubs could be gazumped with Europa League outfit Celta Vigo ready to battle the trio by launching a bid that would see McBurnie remain in La Liga. It is claimed that head coach Claudio Giráldez González wants to add further depth to his squad after leading his side to the Europa League, with McBurnie said to have made enough of an impression in La Liga to warrant significant interest in his services.
