ADB team visits Maharani's institutes, discusses drop in course enrolments
Mysuru: A drop in enrolment for various courses offered at the Maharani's Arts College for Women and Maharani's Science College for Women (Autonomous) in the city, the contribution of colleges to farmers and society through research, as well as the lack of employability of students completing the courses, are the three major issues discussed during the visit of the representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to the legendary institutes on Thursday.
In the meeting, the ADB representatives questioned the falling admissions in these two colleges. According to the presentation, the total number of students fell from 5,023 in 2020-21 to 4,361 in 2024-25. It was the BSc course that lost the highest number of students during this period.
The experts and faculty informed that interest in engineering courses and students' preference for BCA and BBA courses over BSc are the major reasons for this.
The ADB representatives also sought details on whether research activities in the colleges are reaching the farmers, who are more numerous in this area. The faculty listed how they are helping the farmers through various interventions.
As part of the Karnataka Higher Education Transformation Project, an initiative of an MOU between the department of higher education, Govt of Karnataka, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), for upgrading and enhancing the infrastructure, basic facilities, and instiling employability skills among students in govt first grade colleges, polytechnic colleges, and engineering colleges across Karnataka, the ADB team paid its initial visit to these two colleges.

Noida Authority approves luxury hotels to boost biz near airport
Noida: As Noida prepares to position itself as a global investment destination, authorities have cleared the way for a wave of luxury hotel developments to match its expanding infrastructure. Noida Authority board, in its meeting on Saturday, approved a proposal to allot land for five- and seven-star hotels, to serve the demand generated by the upcoming Noida International Airport and IT and industrial hubs. Officials say land parcels for these hotels will soon be identified and put out to tender, with the Authority looking to create a vibrant hospitality ecosystem that supports tourism, business travel, and international delegations expected with the airport's operation. In addition to the hotel policy, the Authority also approved a redevelopment plan aimed at revitalising ageing group housing societies, particularly those catering to low income group (LIG) and economically weaker section (EWS) residents. The scheme outlines clear processes for developer appointments, rehabilitation of residents and temporary relocation, to ensure improved housing and amenities. AAP government wasting money on fake advertisements: Bikram Singh Majithia
Ludhiana: Former minister and senior Akali Dal leader, Bikram Singh Majithia , on Saturday, said that the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government has nothing to show in the name of performance but is wasting money on fake advertisements. Addressing election meetings in favour of party candidate Parupkar Singh Ghumman in Ludhiana West, Majithia said that all major projects in the state, including those in Ludhiana, were implemented by the SAD government led by Parkash Singh Badal. He claimed that during the last three and a half years, the AAP government led by Bhagwant Mann had failed to initiate a single project. He asked people whether they had seen Bhagwant Mann or Arvind Kejriwal inaugurating any project in the state. Lashing out at the CM, he accused him of completely surrendering before Arvind Kejriwal, who is calling the shots in the state. He claimed that the Punjab government was spending Rs 800 crore annually on fake advertisements on the orders of Arvind Kejriwal. According to him, the budget for advertisements during the SAD government was around Rs 30 crore annually, which was increased to Rs 150 crore during the Congress regime, and had now been increased to Rs 800 crore. Majithia said that this had led to Punjab landing in a debt trap of Rs 4 lakh crore. MSID:: 121850993 413 | Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . HC grants conditional relief to IPS officer in central deputation row
1 2 Cuttack: Orissa high court on Friday provided conditional relief to senior IPS officer Satish Kumar Ishwardas Gajbhiye, who challenged his central deputation order that would have demoted him from inspector general (IG) to deputy IG. The vacation bench of Justices A K Mohapatra and M S Raman directed Gajbhiye to approach the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) within 10 days with a certified copy of the HC order. The bench also mandated CAT to deliver its final decision within 10 days of filing. The controversy arose when the ministry of home affairs on Dec 6 last year ordered Gajbhiye's appointment as DIG in CRPF, a rank below his current position of IG (communications) in Cuttack. State govt subsequently issued a notification on Dec 12, confirming his deputation. Gajbhiye approached the HC after CAT failed to pronounce its judgment within the stipulated three weeks following the May 9 hearing. Senior advocate Subir Palit, representing Gajbhiye, cited the CAT (Practice) Rules, 1993, which mandate judgment delivery within three weeks of reservation. In his petition, Gajbhiye argued that his demotion would place him under officers junior to him, including those from the 2006 regular recruitment batch currently serving as IGs in the Union govt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Investire è più facile che mai BG SAXO Scopri di più Undo He emphasised that while pay protection might be available, it cannot justify posting at a lower rank, affecting dignity, facilities and command responsibilities. The court's order also specified that if Gajbhiye approaches either the Union or state govt seeking a post matching his seniority and rank, authorities must consider it independently and respond within 10 days, following existing rules. Deputy solicitor general Prasanna Kumar Parhi and additional govt advocate U C Behera had objected to the petition, arguing that the matter should have been first raised before the tribunal.
