Bernie Sanders is 'Not Going to Argue' Against Claim That Democrats Are a 'Threat to Democracy': 'Why I'm Proudly Independent'
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a former Democrat turned Independent, admitted that his former party was a threat to American democracy, agreeing with podcast hosts who disapproved of Hillary Clinton as the party's candidate for the 2016 presidential election.
Sanders appeared on the Flagrant podcast Monday, hosted by comedians Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh, on Monday, where they discussed Sanders' participation in Democratic Party primary elections.
"Could we not also say, ostensibly, there hasn't been a fair primary for the Democrats since 2008, are they not also a threat to democracy?" Schulz asked the senator.
Sanders replied, "yes," before adding, "I'm not going to argue with that point. And that's why I'm proudly an Independent."
Sanders has been traveling the nation with Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on their "Fighting Oligarchy" tour in the wake of President Donald Trump's election. The tour has drawn massive crowds, with some speculating that the New York representative intends to run for the nation's highest office in 2028.
"Over the last four elections, Democrats, we felt that we didn't have a say on who could be president," Schulz said. "We talk a lot about the Republicans being autocrats and oligarchs and taking over democracy. But from the Democrat perspective, and I'm a lifelong Democrat, I felt like the Democratic Party completely removed the democratic process from its constituents. And I think they need to have some accountability of that."
"No argument here," Sanders said, echoing Schulz' sentiment.
Schulz continued to describe his disappointment at the party's selection of Clinton as the presidential candidate in 2016, stating that he believed the nomination should have gone to Sanders, who narrowly lost.
"And I'll be honest, it broke my heart when you supported them," Schulz continued.
"In the world that I live in, you've got a choice. And I know a lot of people, including my wife, agree with you, but you're down to a choice," Sanders said. "Is it going to be Hillary Clinton? Or is it going to be Donald Trump? Not a great choice."

Louisiana Republican Points to 'Big White Lines' From Planes as Proof Government Is Manipulating Weather
A bill aimed at banning so-called "chemtrails" advanced in the Louisiana House of Representatives on May 29, with State Rep. Kimberly Landry Coates (R-Ponchatoula) citing the appearance of "big white lines" in the sky as evidence of government-led weather manipulation. Coates defended the bill, SB46, by claiming that aircraft are dispersing chemicals that she said alter weather patterns, WVUE reported. "This bill is to prevent any chemicals above us in the air, specifically to modify the weather," she said on the House floor. Reuters Despite overwhelming scientific consensus that these lines — condensation trails, commonly known as contrails — are harmless byproducts of aircraft exhaust interacting with cold air, Coates and other lawmakers insist they are evidence of a broader government conspiracy. "I've seen the documents with at least nine federal agencies," Coates claimed, when asked who she believes is responsible. She did not offer additional details on the nature of the documents or name the federal agencies. As to which chemicals are being dispersed, Coates cited nanoparticles or aluminum and barium, along with "some with long words I can't pronounce." Contrary to Coates' assertions, the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have repeatedly denied use of weather modification programs or chemical agents in the sky. The bill passed with a 58-32 vote, along with amendments requiring the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality to log resident complaints about "chemtrails" and share the data with the Louisiana Air National Guard. Penalties for violators were removed from the bill, with Coates saying enforcement should wait until state agencies "understand chemtrails better." "When you look up in the air, you watch for the big white lines across the sky," Coates told Democratic Rep. C. Denise Marcelle (D-Baton-Rouge), saying she sees them on a weekly basis. The bill now heads back to the Senate for concurrence on the House amendments. Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee have also brought forward legislation based on similar unsubstantiated conspiracy theories involving chemtrails, geoengineering, and weather modification. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy applauded the efforts of states "to ban geoengineering our climate by dousing our citizens, our waterways and landscapes with toxins." Kristi Noem's 'Sanctuary' Cities List Taken Down After Police Org Condemned Her Department's 'Terrible Disservice' to Trump
The Department of Homeland Security, headed by Secretary Kristi Noem, removed a list of sanctuary cities and counties which it initially published in order to accuse local legislators of obstructing the Trump administration's mass deportation agenda. The National Sheriffs' Association, a group that consistently supports President Donald Trump, spoke out against the publication of the list on Saturday, calling it "arbitrary". "DHS has done a terrible disservice to President Trump and the Sheriffs of this country. The President's goals to reduce crime, secure the Borders, and make America safer have taken a step backward," the group's president, Sheriff Kieran Donahue of Canyon County, Idaho, said in a statement. "The sheriffs of this country feel betrayed." The association continued to state that the list was "created without any input, criteria for compliance, or mechanism for how to object to the designation." Noem shared the publication of the list last week, accusing representatives and officials of the included cities and counties of hampering federal law. "These sanctuary city politicians are endangering Americans and our law enforcement in order to protect violent criminal illegal aliens," Noem said at the time. "We are exposing these sanctuary politicians who harbor criminal illegal aliens and defy federal law. President Trump and I will always put the safety of the American people first. Sanctuary politicians are on notice: comply with federal law." Sanctuary city policies prevent local law enforcement officers from regularly checking in on people's immigration status, though undocumented immigrants are turned over to immigration authorities if they commit a felony. Trump has referred to these policies as "lawless insurrection" against the federal government, and called for a list of cities which had adopted such policies. While the list published by the DHS included cities which are known sanctuary cities, such as Boston, Chicago, New York City and Denver, it also included cities which had never adopted such policies. "The completion and publication of this list has not only violated the core principles of trust, cooperation, and partnership with fellow law enforcement, but it also has the potential to strain the relationship between Sheriffs and the White House administration," NSA's statement continued.
